    How would these be transferred?

For blender there's gltf support that serves the purpose to transfer scenes and characters together with pbr materials. This is also supported by maya, substance painter, unreal engine and unity.

As for daz studio you can export to blender with the diffeomorphic plugin that's quite good converting materials.

  • Genesis 8 Babies

It's nice that Daz is finally making some baby figures. But sorry, this is just my personal opinion - the basic figures are even uglier than the Genesis baby morph, especially the white ones. The black babies still look somewhat cute and babylike. The proportions of both figures are not right again, e.g. the heads are too big and the hands are much too small in relation to the arms. The legs, on the other hand, are too long if you assume that these are newborns. And no newborn baby is so fat. But I agree with cherpenbeck that PA characters often are more realistic than the original figures. E.g. 'Ella' looks much better than the base figure; she's really sweet.

I like babies and I’m sure angel wings at rendo will make a better morph so I bought nearly all the baby content because the price was great. I didn’t buy the male baby just the female one since they kinda look alike to me. Edit oops I did buy him. That will teach me to buy stuff in the middle of the night.

as far as the baby shape, the head is really off for me. Some of the poses are kind of adult-like too but most of the outfits are great. I missed a couple of the outfits, my cart was so full.... and I thought I got them all but missed like 3... which is too bad. The discount was great ala carte

I actually bought most of the baby content- thanks pas! But for a store that really Focuses on delivering cute they really didn’t do a good job on the head or bod of the baby. The head is very jug shaped and it looks like a small fat adult with Michelin tire arms and legs and I am not sure why they gender split this one. The boy morph doesn’t add anything to the feel of the base shape and since it’s genless one baby would really be enough...but I guess if you want to blend him with other characters... but still make it one character.

fortunately there is baby Rosie at rendo.... who looks more infant like to me. And bonus she can wear Genesis 8 baby’s outfits.

  • RiverSoft Art Second Anniversary Contest WINNERS

Two years ago, I started this amazing journey as a Daz Published Artist.  I had NO IDEA what was coming.  I was hoping that it would be a nice little side project.... Wow.  Was I surprised!  I am so thankful for the support from Daz and especially the support from you, the community.  I never would have believed I would have 71 products in two years, and that I would receive such support.  It has truly been a life changing event.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  It has been an incredible two years.  I look forward to many more with your support and encouragement.

Now on to what you came here for... the CONTEST WINNERS!!! smiley  The entries were fantastic and made my job so, So, SO very tough.  I want to thank all the contest participants.  You all did a great job, and I appreciate you using my products to make great art! smiley

Winners:  Please PM me with your prize decision.

    People's Choice Winner

@FenixPhoenix  "Bringing Home a Clan Member"

Prize: Now-Crowd Billboards - Modern Life

Thank you to everyone who voted.  There was a clear favorite this year.  @FenixPhoenix won with the majority of the votes.  I really loved this submission as well.  Well done image and well done text.  Congratulations @FenixPhoenix!!!

    RiverSoft Art Products used:

    • Assembly Line Pose Automation Kit + Bone Doctor Pose Control | These products allowed me to transfer my G3 Males poses to the G8 generation. Which is a time saver considering that I have a lot more pose sets from the previous generations. Additionally, being able to save partial poses allowed me to mix and match several poses to get me started. Then I only had to do some tweaking!
    • Clothing Converter from Genesis 3 Male to Genesis 8 Male | The entire wardrobe the character is using is actually a combination of two G3 outfits. I'll link the outfits in the gallery.
    • RSSY Clothing Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male | The boots as well as the earring are actually kitbashed from G2 outfits! I'll link the outfits in the gallery.
    • Look At Me Pose Control | Of course, one cannot do a render without using this handy tool. How else would these clan member's eyes meet otherwise?!
    • dForce Magnet | Last but not least... one of the best tools ever... the magnets! I only started playing with them till now, even though I bought them at launch. Though they seemed complicated to use, they were surprisingly easy and intutive! It took some playing with the cape to get things right, but finally, I was able to make it seem as though the dog was biting his cape. A bid of attention with a growl of mistrust. Those who are the hardest to love are usually the ones who need it most.

Inspired by the recently released Landon 8 bundle. "A werewolf meets a little guy on the streets who's having a hard time. In his heart, the moment their eyes crossed, he knew… it was time to bring his clan member home."

Thank you for your wonderful products, @Riversoft Art! I hope I paid a nice tribute, since this image couldn't have been made without the products I mentioned!

Obviously, I don't know how to run a contest, as I wanted to give all the entrants a prize.  smiley  The pressure of judging got to me and I decided to add one more prize, Second Place Runner Up winner!   I really liked the image that @scorpio made.  It feels so alive and energetic, compared to a lot of images.  A great use of the Now-Crowd billboard products.  Congratulations @scorpio!

    • Now-Crowd Billboards - Future Life

I used the Now Crowds Billboards - Future Life and Now Crowds Billboards Modern city Life. The bill board figures are the ones mainly in the back furthur down the street, they are so useful I've found for filling up a scene without taxing my computer. I only picked them up recently but will be using them a lot more, when mixed with full figures and lo res figures it should be possible to get a very populated scene, something I've not been able to do in the past without rendering in bits this was rendered in one go the only reason its a small size was time rather than anything else, I did do one version on a larger scale and my Graphics card was able to handle it. But I didn't like the lighting and so wanted to redo it. I meant to render it while I was at work today but forgot to press the render button before I left so have to do it this evening in between getting dinner so it had to be the smaller dimensions.

    First Place Winner

    @LaPetiteVerita  "Moon, Take Thy Flight"

Prize: Winner's choice of 2 RiverSoft Art products (where RiverSoft Art is the sole creator of the product)

It was so hard to choose the winner.  @LaPetiteVerita's "Moon, Take Thy Flight" managed to just barely eke out a win.  It is a fantastic image.  The Striga outfit by @Arki is one of my favorites and the included dForce pose presets make it a breeze to use (but was a bear to make smiley)  @LaPetiteVerita had a very strong combination of breathtaking image and a terrific description of how Pose Blender was used.  Congratulations @LaPetiteVerita!!!

    RiverSoft Art Products Used

    • dForce The Striga Ensemble for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s)
    • Pose Blender
    • Eye Clock Pose Control

    Description:

I have a love-hate relationship with dForce (although "terrified" is more accurate than "hate"). I love what it can do - it opens up so many new options for artists - and I love looking at all the amazing work people have done using dForce. At the same time, I'm totally intimidated by the mechanics of using dForce, and I'm working on an older laptop that was intended for word processing. It doesn't really get along with dForce. So when I saw the dForce Striga Outfit had hierarchical pose presets that emulated dForce, I snapped it up!

The best part of the preset poses, in my opinion, is that they work really well as a place to start - I'm not just limited to the poses provided. For this piece, I used RiverSoft's Pose Blender to mix the "Looking Back" pose with a walking pose, and I depended quite heavily on the selective pose blender option to mix in some of the other presets as well. The left arm is mixed with the spellcasting preset pose, while the right arm has a little bit of the "sitting" and "standing" poses blended in. I barely needed to use the morph dials to fix the fabric after she was posed. And because I used the pose blender, all the different poses look natural blended together - nothing tries to stick out at odd angles, as often happens when I try to combine partial poses. Pose blender really is my secret weapon - using it is the best trick for keeping posed figures from looking stiff and frozen.

Like, do not get me wrong: I’m happy they’re doing something different for a change and frankly, *age appropriate* little kids clothes and poses are something that’s been sorely missing in the Daz ecosystem. Those, I will support.

The base figures probably could have used more fine tuneing. But OTOH, Genesis 8 does have no shortage of body and face morphs, so if one isn’t lazy, they could attempt to morph these two to something more to their liking.

[...] I guess it's nice that they've finally adressed that nitch for those that wanted it, though, honestly, I've found that the Genesis baby still works just fine when modern shaders are applied. [...]

The Genesis Baby is no longer available though, so that is one of the reasons people have been asking for a new one.

I'm not going to link to it, but there's an OK morph 'baby genesis' on Sharecg....

I have to agree with most of the forum sentiment. The default little guys/girls look no less creepy than Milbaby.

A lot of the clothes and props look excellent, and some of the PA morphs look OK, but the default 'babies' are offputting... I'm having difficulty seeing the potential past Chuckie twins, episode 8.

The Sixus baby I already have (and only Angel Wings Amanda character makes it look cute or worthwhile), 2 Genesis babies and the K4 one for long shots...

Daz aught to have recruited Angel Wings over for this endevour, all her kids are absolutely adorable.......

How would these be transferred? I mean what file format would be used to transfer a scene to Luxcore keeping the shaders intact? Obj doesn't seem to store any info other than opacity, specularity, emissiveness (there may be a few more, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.) I'd like to be able to go from Daz to (Reality/Luxus)Luxcore without having to tweak every material by hand.

With having to buy 11 things, they've set this up so you don't buy the bundle, so I put the individual items in the cart. Do that, it's worthwhile.

What do you folks think of the kiddo?

Honestly? I think it was a nice try, but missed the mark. (Maybe applying Growing Up to Baby 8 would help!) I just about died laughing when I read Tobyn described as a newborn. (So is Caryn, but I was prepared for it by then.) These are toddlers, and imo, they are still out of proportion for the age. Maybe with some morph work to shorten the limbs, and then scaled down a bit; head proportion increased to compensate for downsizing the rest of the figure…

On the other hand, I do have Sixus1's baby for G8F, and the clothing should fit her. And Redz' hair is spot on. I may spend some money. Then again, I may not. Eleven items is definitely out of the question.

  • Trying to find/pose a realistic smile!

You can't know if a smile is real without context so you can't judge a person's smile without knowing for a long time their 'typical smile'. Now if you want to say DAZ 3D model's smiles are fake because they don't involve all the muscle, connective joint & tissue & skin changes needed then you'd be on to something.

The best products in the DAZ Store that are NOT sculpted to be dependant on a particular character's are Pedro Furtado's smile sets:

    https://www.daz3d.com/20-unique-smiles-hd-for-genesis-8-males-

    https://www.daz3d.com/20-unique-smiles-hd-for-genesis-8-females

You simply combine them and don't dial them in at full strength. Furthermore, and this is labor intensive, you adjust those smiles using Power Poser & the DAZ 3D model's face fig bones, although that is difficult and tedious to do (and that is what Pedro Furtado actually did in creating his 20 Unique Smiles products to give you an ideal of how much work he did)

The boy in the render below used the above mentioned products & his smile looks quite realistic. I think it was an 20% Smile 01 & 70% Smile 16 but i'm not sure now. LOL, no tedious Power Poser adjusts done by me although if you're trying to get a photograph's peculiar smile down pat you will probably need to adjust in Power Poser.

Yes and no. Fake smiles are really not hard to spot, even on total strangers. It does vary from person to person, some people just have better acting skills. There is a reason why there are tropes related to certain people who have used car salesman smiles, or conman smiles. Its a thing.

I do think most Daz smiles are way over the top, like the model just had laughing gas. This is probably because of facial structure, too. But I also think that many people in the 3D industry over compensate when they create smiles, not just Daz PAs. It is kind of like how animations and things are exaggerated in cartoons and 3D animations, it carries over from that. Sometimes a subtle smile is really hard to do, because it can be hard to notice the person is smiling at all just toning the dial down. It is a real delicate balance.

The Bluejaunte girls all have great smiles, and they DO work on other characters. However you have to be careful because if you apply too much of it then they start looking a bit too much like the Bluejaunte characters, and that gets creepy, LOL. Blend the smile in with another smile, or even 3 or 4 smiles in small amounts. For example, maybe 30% Sahel + 40% of another smile, or something like that. Any kind of combination can work. You can also add in a dimple shape morph if you have one to customize it more.

Also, the same person will have a wide variety of different smiles. They can look different from day to day. So if you are doing a series, try making small changes between shots to alter things up a bit. Just like having different characters with the same smile can be creepy, having a character with the exact same smile in every picture is also kind of creepy.

I have 2 smiles, a natural one (to different degrees of strength) and one I try to force for passport photos anbd such when it's apparent on'e not just going to pop out like they usually do. The fake one I can only recall using 3 times in my entire life so I don't think they are that common place to use really unless you are Cher or David Letterman or someone like that. I have never forced a fake smile for a person, I'm not capable of it. I worked as a busboy for a decade and never tried to fake a smile or portray false emotions directed at customers or other workers. I have done fake smiles for a camera though when the camera was dominating my thoughts more than the photographer taking the picture..

  • Genesis 8 Babies

I actually think they're kind of cute, though I agree they certainly aren't newborns.  I think the main problem is their chins, they're waaaaay too big.  But some dial spinning could do wonders, it's a decent base to start with.

And Ella is precious!  And her newborn morph is much closer to the real thing.

Have to wishlist for now, but hopefully I can get at least the girl baby and Ella eventually.

  • IRAY textures/shaders in Other Render Engines

NO THEY DO NOT. The main issue is that while the iray uber shader can generate pbr materials, that are compatible with most pbr engines, unfortunately it can also generate non-pbr or "specular" materials, that will not transfer to pbr engines. One example of this is specular colors that are not physically possible, yet allowed by iray. Also materials with a high specularity and a high roughness, again not phisically possible, yet allowed by iray.

On the other hand, if you use iray in a "pbr compliant" way, then your materials will transfer fine if they are texture-driven. Unfortunately this is not the case with most daz content in the shop.

I created a morph for the sphere to flatten the front face a little.

I used the logo for the Sonny and Cher Show in an image editor to create a map to use as a mixer in the diffuse and glow channels.

For no reason, I also created a blurred radial image to drive a gradient for the sphere in my image editor.

For the sphere shader, I put a mixer in the diffuse color channel. I put black in the first slot.  I put a yellow/orange gradient in the second slot.

I chose my radial blur to control the yellow/orange gradient.

I placed my logo map in the mixer blender.

I used the replicator to create the sides of the Sonny and Cher sets.

I placed a plane with tiles in the bump channel and some reflection.

    Performers to be added later.

  • Guides to Geometry

I'm getting all the geometry exporting, but only the base shape is taking on the pose.  Tried Export all vs Bake all and FBX2014 and getting the same results. With rules set to Export, I get morph channels but they don't help; they aren't keyed or such

Odd that exporting to OBJ works w/o much effort, it just ends up with a lot more geometry which is why I'd like to figure this out.  Am I missing something obvious in DS?
