  • Hitchens: A DAZ Studio to Blender Live Link

Yo TheMysteryIsThePoint, Let me help with your marketing... smiley (in case anyone is getting notifications from this thread)!

Hitchens, the (roughly) "bring animatable scene elements back from Blender into DAZ Studio 4.x" feature addition of TheMysteryIsThePoint's latest Sagan Alembic Export Tool is now released for use and feedback! Follow this link to get Sagan 5, and maybe keep an eye on this nearby-forum-thread relating to Sagan itself (a working alembic format exporter plugin for DS 4.x) for comments, details, bug reports, etc.

The best description I've found (back in this forum topic's pages) looks something like (from a while back):

It is intended to get just enough into Blender so that one can animate with IK and layers, and be able to have characters interact with each other, precisely. That means the mesh is at base res for speed, and the JCMs are only needed at certain frames, say, one character is touching another. Then, get the animation back to DS, precisely as it was in Blender. Once the animation is back in DS, I can export it through the usual ways, i.e. Diffeo or Sagan, or the upcoming LotP at render time.

Rather than re-invent some of the key transfer/conversion elements, TheMysteryIsThePoint has wisely leveraged the brilliance of Thomas Larson 's (w help/support from Padone) nearby diffeomorphic tool to take care of many of the fine-tuned conversion functions in a symbiotic manner.

Not having work through the new Hitchens release yet, I believe this tool can (or will someday) run DS in the background, to take advantage of DS specific capabilites (like a plugin, just kind of bigger-ish), then those results can be moved forward in a way that supportseach user's project needs.

Let us all know how you get along with it if you check it out. I'm just starting to dive in and figure out how the gears work together, so i'm not at all useful for feedback yet, but my goal here is to help get the word out and let folks know it's live and ready to play with. A lot of work went into this, so it would be great to see those efforts result in cool outputs and time-savings for those that dive in!

I'm hoping that my experiments will enlighten me enough to result in a quick use-case/tutorial that will shine a spotlight on the end-to-end use-case and ultimate value of this project.

Note that Sagan, Hitchens, and Diffeomorphic are all open-source volunteer projects that make DS a better tool for all of us. In that spirit, please share your experiences (good or bad) so we can all benefit, trading hacks and ideas, making these tools more useful and used by everyone.

TheMysteryIsThePoint, thanks again, and, if I've missed anything or gotten any of it wrong here, let me know ASAP and I'll edit/tweak things until our info is correct/complete.

    best,

    --ms

If items don't suit you you can pass on them. You can also, as suggested, just use them from certain camera angles where they do work or you can kit-bash multiple peoducts to build the set-up you need. Even when items are "sensible" or, in as far as the term can apply, realisitc you may still need to use one or both of those techniques to get the results you want. That doesn't mean you can't point out elements that strike you as design issues, for example in https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/762591/let-s-appreciate-discuss-today-s-new-releases-ongoinger-still-further-thread#latest

So we shouldn't talk about our impression how a product could have been made better to serve our personal needs, right? At least that is what I take from your post. Or is it that all criticism of any products should be done in a "catch them all" thread, than in a thread dedicated only to that item only, which would make a discussion about it easier, IMHO.

Just asking, so I know how to post here in the forum in the future.

This seems to be a somewhat hyperbolic catch-all thread, so pointing to a thread for dusicussing new reeleases in general seems reasonable.

  • medieval interior/exterior construction kit

imagine my best oliver twist impression: please sir may i have a medieval interior/exterior construction kit?

i tried digging through the product suggestion forum and the general forum search to no avail, so after much frustration i’m posting this to 1) put it out into the world in the hopes that a pa with an interest in working on such kits might see it; and 2) see if anyone has any better searching skills or kit and/or kitbashing suggestions.

what i’m wanting/looking for is a kit that allows for both interior and exterior medieval/fantasy scenes, with realistic textures/materials. everything i've been able to find/buy seems to be either/or. i’d like to be able to construct buildings and houses like little moreton hall, a wealden house, a tudor style cottage, or just a general timber-framed house, and be able to go from a commoner’s house to a noble’s with the occasional palace/castle. also a kit with stairs because i did not expect this to be one of my bigger issues but please my god i need (wood) stairs that can work for interior medieval scenes.

i already own faveral’s mick, the alchemist’s medieval village & village houses construction kits (with mansions on my wishlist), and a good chunk of enterables’ catalogue, but like i said, i’m getting frustrated and there’s only so much with them that i can do. i also already have bradcarsten's castle creator on my wishlist and own roguey and strangefate's red crow inn, little crows, and medieval bedroom to attempt kitbashing with--but, again, frustrations abound.

sooo, dear pa's: pretty pretty please?

everyone else: if you've got suggestions, please share.

  • FBX Conversion

Depending on the models complecity as well as how the they were made, rigging automotives / planes etc. can be a bit challenging... the workload may also vary. If you just need to use them as static objects, you don't need to rig them. Import FBXs, convert them to props and/or figures, assign the texture maps, then save as Scene Subset.

If you do need to rig them for tranlating / rotating the parts of them, you may take a look at this product : https://www.daz3d.com/rigging-vehicles-and-mechs-in-daz-studio I ever learnt a lot from them. There're some simple tutorials on youtube, you may search there.. e.g. https://youtu.be/NH6sg-pMppU?si=ROvFOaNqwAbALI2a

           https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIxH2Ilf9D8&list=PLPcx_LSSGfZfhDCty973OQjnXLugQtoEE

Edit: Rigging process is not difficult but most of the time just tedious ~~

One time, again about 30 years ago, during autumn, in Virginia outside of Washington, DC there was a piano store that had moved several of their upright pianos outside into the parking lot (I guess it was a sale of some sort), the weather had quickly turned cold, and it had started gently snowing, but I sat down and played for about 15 minutes and when I ran out of material I looked around and had gathered a crowd around me.  Cool!smiley  I hope the pianos got moved back inside quickly.  Again I was dressed in full leather, playing piano, in the snow.laugh  Delicious memories.devil

...would have loved to have seen that.both times.

When i lived in Seattle one of the regional banks (now long gone through several acquisitions) had their headquarters located in downtown that had a two level open atrium at street level,  In the ground level here was this loverly 1930s 9' Steinway available for people to play on.  On off days I would wander in and if nobody else was [laying (sometimes  "banging" on its keyboard) I would sit down and play a short mini recital of maybe tow or three works   The first time I did so three was applause and when I looked up there were people standing at the railings on the second level.

    I sort of became a "semi-regular" there

One afternoon when I walked in I found that the Steinway was removed and in its place, a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial (the one I mentioned in the above post that had 97 keys).  I was hesitant at first to sit down as this was the "Rolls Royce" of pianos that, at the time, almost cost as much as a small house.  People would walk by look at but not sit down to play, likely figuring it was there for display only .  Finally I got the nerve to sit down (half expecting someone to come up and shoo me away) and began to play.  I was amazed that didn't happen and was allowed to carry on.  For one of the pieces, Debussy's "La cathédrale engloutie! (The Sunken Cathedral) I moved my left hand down an octave at  several points in the quieter portions and the effect was almost spine tingling, I could actually feel those low strings vibrating through the keys.

That piano turned out to be a "loaner" while the Steinway was being refurbished (given some the abuse it often received). Yeah the experience of playing on the Imperial spoiled me, but having the old Steinway return was like welcoming an "old friend" (who was healthy again) back.

Thank you for adding some random beauty to the world.

Cool!  I know, and have played The Sunken Cathedral, I can see where some moments of extra low tones would be completely appropriate for that piece.   The sound of a multi-ton bell slow-tolling, at a continuous pace, limited by momentum, monopolizing the background.  Notes that shake your chest and rattle windows. yes

  • Freebie Challenge August 2026 - Plastique Fantastique! - Main Thread

The world's first fully synthetic plastic was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland, who coined the term plastics. Since then plastics have taken over the world, especially once mass manufacturing became much cheaper around the 1950's and 60's.

Plastics are cheap, colourful, and versatile. Everything can be made of plastic: furniture, clothes, wigs, household objects, toys, medical equipment, computers. We achieve huge advances in technology and science as we use plastics to fly to the moon and connect the entire world through the internet. Life in plastic, it's fantastic!

Or is it, really? Looking at the environmental and health impact of plastics, they definitely have their dark side. Is recycling really the solution, or is it just green-washing? Does "plastic" automatically mean "cheap and disposable", or can plastics bring value to our lives? For better and for worse, plastics are all around us (and they may or may not be lead by Regina George.) The theme of August is: Plastique Fantastique!

  • Tips for creating attractive Genesis 9 Female characters from all angles?

something I did back in my geminis and Genesis 3 days, was to search for attractive female faces, and try to recreate   what  like.

nowadays I'm just lazy, and mix the heads like 30%,40% 30% of different heads. Then I used morphing dials to adjust to my liking.

only difference to what dials  would use on the model you posted I might add more of a nasolabial fold, and a bit more curve to the jaw

oh, and you can never have enough morphing dials wink

I'm looking for this specific pose for Daz Studio 6—it's a popular pose in adult content. I can't seem to find it when I search for terms like "yoga," "contortionist," or anything similar... Could it be a custom-made pose?

Non-complaint:  Trip down memory lane:  I'm back from the BBQ at the town picnic.  Had a great time despite the $45 for three dinners, but it goes to the firemen.  Friend then drove us around the back roads of the county to a roadside veggie stand where I bought three ears of corn, just as it was coming in from the field as we arrived.  We continued on deeper into Amish country near Cherry Creek and drove past a big Amish barn that had apparently burned last night.  A group of Amish men were picking through the still smouldering ashes.  We ended up at a little Amish shop that sold candies.  I'd already gotten two pieces of pie from the town picnic and didn't need any more sugar in my diet, but I did buy a small bag of her sugar-free chocolate/nut candies.  Actually pretty good.  We continued on driving down little barely paved roads and finally ended up an on unpaved path that lead past an old fishing camp on the Conewango Creek.  I remembered the camp from my childhood in the mid-50s when my father used to visit his friend's cabin there.  I remember being out on the small creek in a boat with my dad and his friend while they fished for muskellunge , some of the most miserable times of my young life.  I never liked fishing, the fish were big and scary with huge teeth, and the mosquitos back then were horrendous.  But all in all, today was a good day.

Are you attaching or pasting? You can't paste screenshots into the forum. It looks like you can. But they won't be saved. Upload screenshots as attachments.

  • An Attempt of a "Limited Time Freebie" Message Only Email Alert Thread Part 2

I also had no idea how to get the Afterdark newsletter, but I posted a request on the forum, which directed me to customer service, who added my address to the list, and now I'm receiving it.
I also don't think there's any problem posting the link, since the freebie is open to everyone with an account.
I confirm that you need to log in to access the gift.

  • The "The Weather Changes More Often than the Thread Title" Complaint Thread

On this subject:  Coincidentally, yesterday afternoon, I heard eight consecutive loud shots from "up the hill" outside my kitchen window.  I went out on the porch to see where exactly the sound was coming from and there was another round of five or six.  Then I noticed a police car parked at the town park and the officer was walking across the road but paid no attention to the shots, and was just here on another matter and went in to a house on the street and left a few minutes later.  I think the shots were someone up in the woods test firing their rifle or using up old ammunition, getting ready for hunting season in a few weeks.  This happens every year either behind me up-the-hill, or across the street, down-in-the-swamp.indecision

On Big Pianos:  Back in the 90s I was in Denver once and stayed at a chain hotel (Marriott, I think) across the street from the Brown Palace Hotel (fancy old place) but was connected to the Brown Palace via a street overpass on about the 3rd floor.  I went down the hallway from my room, walked over the street into the Brown Palace, found the main stairway down and there at the middle landing was a lady playing a full sized concert harp.  Cool!cool  Then I spied the 9-foot Baldwin piano on the main floor in the grand lobby.  When the lady was done with her performance.  I got brave and went to the piano and played a bit of my best, just to be able to say "been there, done that".  And as usual during that period of my life, I was dressed in full leather.devil

Speaking of bucket list goals:  One of my cousins was up from Florida visiting me in the Washington DC area.  She is a choral singer and has been round the world to various concerts with her group.  I took her on a drive around the DC/Virginia area and stopped at Wolf Trap  in the middle of the afternoon.  The place was open for wandering but no performance was underway.  When we wandered into the stage area she ran to the stage, climbed the stairs and stood on the stage for a while, then came back down to me and said, "There, now I can truthfully say I've been on stage at Wolf Trap".smiley

Speaking of Wolf Trap:  I attended a performance there once.  Opera "Mlada" by Rimsky-Korsakov.  Performed by the Bolshoi Theater Company.  Meh, interesting, but I would rather have gone to their other presentation of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin".  I'm not really an opera fan, so thank god for sur-titles.indecision  The one song in Mlada that is memorable is "The Entry of the Nobles" (or Procession of the Nobles).  Wow all sorts of nostalgic memories being dug up.  The link to the entry of the Nobles is to the Cincinatti Pops version, and my ex. Max, confessed to me that he once dated Erich Kunzel.  Admitting that at the time he didn't know who he was, but that he had a big apartment in Cincinatti and a big piano.  If I ever write my book, there will be several chapters on the tales that Max told me of his experiences among the rich & famous.laughheart

  • Duplicate files issue *Solved*

    Rantanrave said:

    crosswind said:

Duplicate formula issue usually comes from two main reasons: 1) two or more modifiers have the very same url (i.e. "id", not modifer "name"); 2) two or more very same formulas saved in one DSF file (usually comes from ERC Freeze for times or wrongly modify DSF manually... )

The log shows that the issue you have comes from 2) ... since more likely you converted the figure from G3F to G8F with XTransfer which might've created two same formulas in the DSF file.

If you already had the DSF file deleted : E:/Daz Main Install/Daz/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/XTransfer/P3DOZI/Avery/XT_Avery Head.dsf from all the XTransfer data folders in all your Daz Libraries, the issue should be gone.

So, search XT_Avery Head.dsf in the data folders of all your Daz Libraries (check if there're same formulas within the DSF by using Notepad++ if you can find the files...), delete the duplicate formula or delete all XT_Avery Head.dsf files.

Edit: If the issue still stubbornly persists, try: in Preferences, Clear DSON Cache Files, and test again.

    The issue is fixed.

I tried both suggestions in your post, without luck, sadly. Then I did some searching and stumbled across the answer in this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/322166/how-to-remove-unwanted-morphs

"JoWa" gave the solution: Enable Edit mode and deleting the morph from within Daz itself. I did so, deleting all the assosiated morphs and closing down Daz. Then I navigated to the XTransfer folder, where the files were still present for some reason, so I deleted them as well (again). Then I booted up Daz, ported the morphs again with XTransfer and *bingo*, worked like a charm.

Thanks to those who assisted me here, I really appreciate it.

That was great you had the issue fixed!

But for the record, the action of deleting morph properties with Edit Mode in Parameters pane just deletes the properties in DUF file per se rather than the culprit DSF files in data folder.

Besides, duplicate formula issue only comes from existing DSF files rather than the properties in a Scene file (DUF).  So still, deleting the culprit DSFs in all linked Daz Libraries, or correcting modifier's ID or removing the problematic formulas in DSF(s)... is the only KEY.
