"daz figures are child safe", there is no R rating, gore, or real horror at shop here.
The vules that guide what you can post in the these two two companies' galleries are differant. If DAZ take over RUNTIMEDNA will these of DAZ's vules will close many people galleris in RUNTIMEDNA? Will DAZ follow RUNTIMEDNA's loging into the person's account three tries then a lockout?
May I ask what happend to Poser Pros? I can not even remember it as a store but only for the forums.
Weep :-(
Deep freeze is already gone ...
And I definitely don't like DOZ playing monopol - runtime was such a fine place to go - history now.
And no, I don't believe DAZ will offer the same stuff as runtime. Because DAZ has other rules, and because some vendors will not be happy to stay with DAZ ...
The one thing to remember about the acquisition of Poser Pros was that it all happened under a completely different management. Everything is still unfolding, though Daz has made several statements if you take the time to read what Steve and Brian have been posting.
I just think its very sad, just another nail in the coffin!
Basically, DAZ finally closed the site years after they bought it.
They bought the store in 2005, kept it running "as is" for a few years, then the store was closed somewhere in 2008 IIRC and a good number of products were re-released in the ArtZone store. Products you bought at PP were still in the old store, though. For another few years after that you could request a new download by contacting one of their former admins and their formums were still available as an archive, but the site definitely closed in 2011 or so. So people who don't have a backups for their PP files have lost them.
Some people are still angry at DAZ because "they promised we would still have access to our downloads when they bought PP and they've killed the site years after that".
I've been going through that interview that probably isn't allowed to be linked here looking at timelines, and it seems the Poser Pros thing happened back when the original founders were in charge. That story is all woe is me Daz so big corporate evil but also so much of it doesn't add up. It's a shame there's no Daz side of the story to tally against it.
So current Daz hasn't shut down any sites. They just haven't really maintained the other three software items they sell.
(Also that interview is a lot harder to find now because the old forums have been mothballed after they got taken down "by an Islamic group that uploaded an image which wiped our server")
lx I think you are getting muddled between Poser Pros and Hivewire. 2 completely different scenarios.
No, no, Leana said Daz bought PP in 2005 then closed it around 2008-2011. The interview states that he made plans in 2009 to leave and then eventually did in 2012 along with the other founder, setting up HW in 2013.
So doesn't that mean the original founders were still in charge when the Poser Pros thing happened, not the current management?
Yes, original founders, not current management.
Ah, I misunderstood your post lx, as you went form one to the other, without naming them.
I am going to do something incredibly controversial ... I am going to continue to buy products that I like. Don't care what store they are in.
Ah, my bad.
I think it's good to have that sort of thing out in the open though. I'm far from Daz's biggest defender but when you sift out the parts that can't actually be verified anywhere Daz comes out looking pretty good even without any honeyed words to praise them.
I have been watching the augment, and even joined in in some forums.
There a lot of supposition and fear going around. As basically no one is really aware of what this means, beyond a merger of accounts under the DAZ banner, and the 'for now' the old RDNA forums will remain open.
So i find it idiotic to believe that both parties involved have not figured out how a move this size is to roll out.
What the changes are, and how this whole thing is going to work?
So could we please get a clear indication of intent, so your customers can get the clarity they deserve.
Thank you
I'm a little concerned because I brought lots of items from RuntimeDNA as I'm sure many of you have. Does the mean I shouldn't buy items from them now and wait until it's all moved over to the Daz Store? How are accounts going to be combined?
Does this mean Daz will be offering support for little fox star character?
and our huge library of content there will be moved over to our products libraries here at daz. I got like 20 pages of content over at RDN
here is my biggest question. does this mean you will be encrypting all the products sold there with Daz connect as well?
Exactly my feelings, as Daz vendors migrated from doing Poser and DazStudio capable content to DazStudio only my purchasing migrated more and more to RDNA and the other big two Poser content sites, seing RDNA annexed by the DazStudio site (and the Daz installer which forces you to install stuff to where it wants) means the former RDNA vendors will no longer be making products usable in Poser. :(
Oh there is little chance of the 'dark' content or Poser as an program going away since game engine SW is now free as that's practically the only type of genre those people that are using those free game engines use to, LMAO, make their games 'original'. The skimpy stuff well that will only distract said indie game developers from developing their games. DAZ and Smith Micro must be making more money than ever before. Business interests and fickle faddish cultural tastes will dictate when that ends.
The people that say they won't buy anything ever from DAZ well they can go to CP or Renderosity. While I liked RuntimeDNA I liked it for some of it's content and the fact it seemed to be independant artists that supported themselves and made a sucessful business from their work, although I have no ideal if runtimeDNA artists truly support themselves only by selling art models at runtimeDNA for a living, they certainly can't on what I've spent there.
As well as what? Daz has firmly said that existing content available via DIM/zip will continue to be available via DIM/zip so I can't imagien the RDNA stuff being encypted now. New content will presumably be treated however new cotnent from current Daz vendors is treated - so far, only a few special items hae been encrypted.
Off topic, but you can use DIM without using the install option (you also can tell it where to download the zips to). Then you have ZIP files, which you can unzip and install wherever and however you like.
1) you don't have to use DIM, unless you're installing a DS beta.
2) you don't have to use Connect either for 99.99% of the content available in the store.
3) RDNA vendors who want to can and will still produce Poser content, there's no rule at DAZ against that. As long as it sells they will do it. If nobody buys it anymore they'll probably stop, but that won't be because of DAZ, that will be because there a no more customers.
I have accounts at two places that will now become one. I look forward to seeing how this will finalize. I love both sites immensely.
Hey, Does this mean that Poser software/upgrades and the TerraDome, or other "Poser Only content" will no longer be available on Runtime (or if everything integrates to this site, does that mean these items will become unavailable?)
Littlefox said on FB that she'll be moving to DAZ (and will go on supporting poser too), so probably.
Nothing will be available at RDNA anymore, the store is closing. Items will move at DAZ if the vendor agrees, if not s/he will either release them elsewhere or retire them
As for poser only items, considering that one of the first RDNA products moved here is poser only I think you have your answer...
Ooh, that's exciting news!
I'm not sure I'm "unhappy," but I am concerned. I just recently decided that I'm going to start trying to use Poser 11 more in my next project, rather than Daz Studio. The major reason for this is the Comic Book Preview mode in Poser 11. The Geometric Edges feature is just too tempting to pass up. This means I'm actively investing in V4 and M4 content again because Genesis isn't a viable option in Poser. Yeah, there are workarounds and importers, but they're more trouble than they're worth.
Daz needs to offer the option to sort products by DS and Poser compatibility. This is a much-needed feature.
As for my personal feelings -- I'm still concerned and a little sad. I liked that RDNA was a high-quality alternative to Renderosity. I'm going to miss RDNA, but I do wish them well and hope this merger works well for them.
Well, here's the thing.
Poser support has dropped away in the Daz store because most Daz customers have either stopped using/caring about Poser, or most Poser folks have wandered off to other stores. Which tends to snowball.
An influx of folks who use and like Poser could change that; if there's actually people here willing to buy Poser content, well... vendors will follow suit.
I mean, sure, some RDNA folks will REFUSE to shop here, but I suspect most will at least try it out.
I have/had a Runtime DNA account, but I have not logged in for some time. I did make some purchases in the past. I will look for my login information. My email is likely different, but the name and address on the account would still be the same, so will my account from Runtime DNA be able to be linked up with my Daz account?
No - the email has to be the same ...
