Bored about Bikinis, lingerie and underwear for female characters

...I have the Genesis Business Suit bundle. Overall it is a very nice set with a good many different combinations possible.

The issue it (and most Genesis/G2 clothing) has is with weight mapping, particularly where the cuffs and hem of the jacket and cuffs on the slacks are concerned.  In certain arm/hand poses the cuffs of the jacket sill distort to follow the motion of the hands instead of hanging loosely at the ends of the forearms. Using the clothing bones to try and fix this often only makes matters worse.  Next, If a hand is too close to the hem or body of the jacket, the jacket's mesh wraps around the hand and wrist (this occurs clothing for female characters too).  As with the jacket, the cuffs of the slacks also tend to try and follow the the foot as it is bent or rotated instead of hanging loosely instead. Again this appears to be a situation with other long legged slacks for weight mapped figures. Furthermore the coat and shirt buttons as well as belt buckles often distort during posing, yet another issue that seems to occur across the board with a fair amount of clothing content for weight mapped characters. This latter can be corrected to a degree by changing the rigidity.  However, it requires that part to be a separate mesh, for if the feature is actually a part of the texture map, then there is nothing one can do about it.

...and I'm not even talking about autofitting between different figures/generations here as that opens up a whole other "can of worms".

What is needed is some type of collision detection that is selectable by bone/region, which I admit would very unlikely as it would be a nightmare for Daz development to implement.

The other option, would be to adopt a fully open cloth dynamics system similar to what Poser and Marvellous Designer have, something that has been on the feature "wishlist" of many here (including myself) for years.

    "Would step 4 be allowed?"

Unless things have changed recently, no.

Doesn't surprise me at all, I wouldn't allow it if it was my store.

As for SnowSultan's suggetion, I love the idea, although I would say to have a specific area for single items like this to keep the store more organized and not confuse shoppers. I already made most of my single items I need or hit one of the specialized model sites on the web. I would also think that budding DAZ PA's that produce a few single items could transistion well to bigger and better things.

As for how I found DAZ, I started with Poser and found a really hot Naked V3 in a temple with a sword render that led me to DAZ, so technically their advertising does work, LOL

    In which year? 1890?

I live in the UK, I have to wear business attire - smart, formal outfits to work. If I have to meet stakeholders I need to wear a suit. I can tell you now if I turned up to work in anything resembling some of those so called business outfits with the plunging necklines I'd be on a written warning. I can't think of any organisations where they require their staff to wear formal business wear that would be happy with their staff dressed like that. The only place I can think it would be seen as appropriate is a lap dancing parlour or a strip club.

There are different aspects of business within a business in the U.S.. If meeting with shareholders and you are in upper management then a business suit is probably the preferred attire. I have seen it all in other roles for females in the few companies I have dealt with, from mid to long skirts, to long sleeve blouses to camisole type tops. Our secretary at work could go from the office to the club simply by letting her hair down.

My girlfriend works as a secretary in a law office and wears fitted skirts, 4 inch pumps and a light camisole type top to work. Only time she wears a jacket is in meetings and winter

The one thing that does not translate well from real life to 3D is the addage "it's not what you wear, but how you wear it"

Yeah, I run into the 'these pieces should be rigid' problem a lot with jacket buttons and various forms of armor. What would be nice is some sort of ability to set pieces of geometry to attach to specific parts of the mesh, and maybe additional ability to move these pieces to distort the mesh.

I always wondered though, any outfit can be made to look sexy, even if it's not meant to be sexy.  You can take an outfit that's buttoned up and conservative and with the right morphs, surface zones and textures and transform it from conservative to sexy.  In my mind it would sell because of the extremes the outfit could be taken too.  That lady cop outfit that everyone was freaking over, well that could have been made more traditional but with certain opening morphs & material zones could have gone from traditional to tramp cop in a few clicks.  I'm sure this sort of thing has been explored before but I don't see that.  You may think that sales are only going for the sexy, trampy and fantasy but I'm sure there are times when even those that do those sorts of renders have the need for something more traditional and conservative and they may look through their digital closet and not find it.. but this idea would serve both sides of the proverbial coin.... Just my thoughts... they don't matter but seems that this just goes round and round and no ones happy so why not try it out and see what happens?

You're making the assumption that this hasn't been tried -- a lot of the long-time PAs who are posting here HAVE tried it in the past and gotten burned.  They aren't just talking hypothetically about why something wouldn't sell, they've been through it.

I got around that problem on the Kung Fu outfit by removing the hand weight mapping from the end of the sleeve and adding a few adjustment morphs to use if the hand or thumb was bent enough to intersect.  It could also be done with JCMs instead of the adjustment morphs, I tried both ways and the manual morphs gave better and more precise results so I went that route.  You can write down the x/y/z bends and the hands and then dial in the negative numbers on the hand bones of the clothing, like you said it doesn't always work if there aren't adjustment morphs for that (usually not) if you're good with d-formers or have the hex bridge (and Hex will run for you, don't start that rant again please) you can move out or crutch up what areas are intersecting, but that's a more advanced procedure than a lot of end users know how to do.

I'm almost done with a nice outfit for G2M, hopefully it'll still sell well enough to be worth the 9 months or so I've been working on it with G3M looming on the horizon.

...I'll give that at try next time I use the suit as I believe there are foot and hand bones for both the jacket sleeves and slack cuffs. I also become pretty adept with DFormers so if the first doesn't work I'll try that.

It's such an excellent set and incredibly useful.

Considering that's about 5 to 10 percent of the overall customer base I don't think that's a solid assumption.  Could be, but who knows..  I could care less about the gender or sexual preference of my customers, I just want to be able to pay my rent and see the pretty the pictures in the galleries.  And I like all good artistic renders, regarless of subject matter

    Here yah go,   rubber duckies...

And at that price I'm sure they're not rigged,  tweaked for Iray,  or easily load into DAZStudio with a single click.  Still it would be great to see a $25 rubber duckie in the store here.

OK., those are good examples. Now let's say you made three different static duck props all based off a single mesh (I personally like the top $12, $26, and $29 ones) and sold them in a set called Bath Ducks for $2 or $3. Would so few people buy them that it wouldn't be worth the time spent? Would it really be better to include one duck in a $12 Bath Prop set with loofahs, brushes, and soap and hope that anyone who wants a rubber duck will spring for that?

And speaking of ducks, has anyone else noticed that there are virtually NO birds in this store now? I went looking for a bird (again, as filler for an outdoor scene) and all I could find was three old birds by Noggin and Predatron's crow (which I have). That's not an overly specific bit of content that a single user is requesting, that's a gap in basic essential content that some PA ought to take advantage of.

Ken's brids sell... Over at the other place. I know, I've bought some of his new raptors I do own a rubber ducky. I think I rendered it once and it came with a set of some sort.

The trick with onesie-twosie type sales is to make it mainstream enough that a lot of people need it. Food for example. I think most people can use a slice of pizza.

I also find that I tend to use litter for some reason. A lot. Many DAZ environements are way too clean. Adding room clutter really can make a space looked more lived in.

I am amazed at how many in this hobby don't seem to do at least some basic modeling seeing that this is the basis for what 3D is. Based on your post I decided to make a slice of pizza and 5 minutes later, had it in DS. I see 3d food packages all the time and wondered if they sold since I tend to make most of the simple things I need and figured most others did also. I do like the trash idea, have made some of my own in the pst, but a good comprehensive package would be welcome.

3dsmax, but it's a simple mesh, so any modeling app would work. I actually do lots of simple objects in Gmax (free) since I use it often for game mods and it's very similar to 3dsmax. Then export to milkshape and then .obj.

Yeah, see, that would take me many hours to pull off, assuming I could find a good texture to start with.

Wow, that looks awesome. I love your pizza. yes See... That's the kind of things I would buy for a buck or two at checkout  Not hard to make, but something I would use and wouldn't mind paying a few dollars for at checkout.  That would be what I would doing if I were a PA. Not overwhelming with 30 dollar sets, but making a bunch of numerous 'dollar' items.

Trash I use quite frequently. There are a few packs in the store, but I find things like scattered papers, crushed cans, spent rounds that sort of thing..

Some sets have these little tidbits and I have made a folder called 'junk' so if I do a scene I pull a few things from the junk folder. But I could always use more.

An apple core, crushed cans, and bits of paper to fly in the wind would be really nice.

Crazy idea time:  While this wouldn't substitute for completely non-skimpy normal outfits, could designers of skimpwear make some that when combined, provide a useful, somewhat less skimpy outfit as well?  That way both the skimp and non-skimp crowds would have something, and the only extra time used would be the initial planning step.  For example, a corset by itself could be considered lingerie, a bra obviously underwear, a super-short skirt is skimpy, artistic arm/leg bands can show a lot of skin, a see-through filmy hip scarf is skimpwear, artsy fantasy shoulder pads are part of skimpwear, etc.  However, if you were to make the skirt long and the various items solid and use transparency maps to arrive at the skimp and see-through bits, when all of these elements are combined you have a decent, completely non-skimpy fantasy dress, with what I assume is very little extra work.  Granted it's still fantasy wear and isn't something you would see on just anybody wandering around town, and would only work with certain combinations of items, but the point here is simply to increase the available options, not to cover every base.  And it doesn't have to be fantasy:  a bodysuit would be considered skimpwear, so would the sci-fi armor on arms and legs that leaves lots of bare spots on the torso, or bare-topped midriff armor, or random straps, belts, and buckles.  But combine enough of these that have been strategically designed to fit together and you have a pretty solid sci-fi outfit with the bodysuit colored dark and acting as the underlayer or joints between sections.

I am amazed at how many in this hobby don't seem to do at least some basic modeling seeing that this is the basis for what 3D is.

It comes easier to some, and harder to others.  I tried, I really did, but after nonstop struggling with learning how to use an application, nonstop crashing, swearing, and general frustration, and realizing there was an entire world of added information you have to know to avoid problems like patterns of shapes to use/avoid, the need for microscopic beveling, etc. for other applications to correctly render your objects without errors, an inability to get weird twisted shadowing from appearing on random polygons, and the insane amount of work that would be required to create a texture map for a complicated shape (that you can't even save the corresponding mapping for with your object, and have to do the entire thing without ever exiting, then redo it from scratch every time you fix something, yikes!) I finally abandoned all hope, thankfully also taking a healthy dose of frustration with it, and opted to let others handle the pain so I could concentrate on the happier, pain-free parts of my art.

Granted, I was trying for something as complex as a car rather than starting with a slice of pizza, but even basic easy shape tests had freaky unacceptable twisty shading problems on supposedly flat polygons that I could never figure out how to fix.  It's probably something obvious and basic an expert modeler knows how to avoid and isn't a problem for others.

And speaking of ducks, has anyone else noticed that there are virtually NO birds in this store now? I went looking for a bird (again, as filler for an outdoor scene) and all I could find was three old birds by Noggin and Predatron's crow (which I have).

Ask in the freebies thread, there are a few low-resolution birds (possibly including a duck, I don't recall for certain though) available, although they would be for distant use only.

People have said various forms of 'why don't you do X yourself?'

I've had not a few artists tell me I really ought to practice freehand illustration (which I'm not at all good at), because it will help with understanding composition, figures, etc. Except I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in doing that, and it's time I'm not spending doing CGI art I DO want to do.

People always tell me 'oh, if you don't build your own computer, you are THROWING AWAY YOUR MONEY. And those machines are poop!' Except I have very little grasp of hardware, looking up information is extremely confusing, I have no idea even where to start, and I can't afford to end up with several thousand dollars of burnt junk on my desk. And it would take a HUGE amount of time learning everything to put it together.

OR I could just buy a packaged system for a bit extra and know that it should work as advertized and I can return the thing if it doesn't.

I wonder how many of these people make their own paper to draw on, design their own stylus, cook up ink, hand-carve new parts for their car that they are repairing themselves, grow their own wheat to make the bread they make themselves...

...yeah I miss Ken's birds a lot, same for Lisa's plants (some of which were PC items).

For the rubber duck, there is one included in Jack Tomalin's Midway Fun set (PC 1.99$ item)

As to that "lived in" look that is something I like myself.  I often turn to sets like Predatron's Trash Stash, ArtCollab's The Garbage Pile and various freebies for street litter.

My issue with many urban sets is that the street surfaces themselves are often too "clean" and uniform looking as if they had just been recently paved. A good part of the time I use Eva1's Urban Environment Shaders,  David Brinnen ForbiddenWhispers' Urban Decay Shaders and DimensionTheory's Shades of Life Urban Constructs  in place of provided road textures as well as  DraagonStorm/Marieah's Griminizer to 'dirty" them up a bit. .

Would be nice to have more overlays like oil stains surface wear, street markings (new and faded), and skid marks
