Bored about Bikinis, lingerie and underwear for female characters

Have DAZ not enough vendors who can create real good clothes. Most of the last releases are lingeries, underwear or swim suits  for Genesis 3 Female or G2F. To be honest, DAZ sell a tutorial for a Bikini for Hexagon, so any untalented simple like me can create a bikini in a few hours.

I'm meanwhile bored about a new underwear cloth for the females each day. If you take your job as a content creator serious, then you should impress us with more sophisticated content.

Pretty sure they sell. I don't buy em either but other people still do

so if I was a craftsmen, artisan whatever. I would get some undies on the market quick as well.

Lately, the clothing for female figures has seemed rather boiler plate. Skintight clothing similar to what we already have for gen 1 and gen 2.

I understand sexy sells, but hoping for an uptick in new vision for genesis 3.

What it feels like to me, is they are getting ready to release a new gen 3 female, and don't have a lot of stuff to release right now.

I should probably get that tutorial. It discusses the hardest parts of a figure to cover (except maybe the shoulder joints).

To be honest, there's but a low number of merchants that release products other then skimpwear & ridiculous high heels and of those but a handful with the talent to create nice stuff. Those releases by the handful is the stuff I watch for, the rest doesn't give me any incentive to buy at all.

In all, it's but a very short list.

I've been looking into making clothing for a long while now, but I haven't managed to wrap my head around it yet.

If I can manage that feat, I have a need for sci-fi clothing that's even rarer than non-skimpwear.

    Powered armor suits, etc?  ;)

I would love more quality sci-fi that is less fan service and more functional. But so far, nothing yet for gen 3 female.

I see some good high fantasy stuff out there for G2F and I start thinking oh I could use it for this and then I see the high heeled boots and then I stop...I wish the vendor would add a flat heel variety in with their outfits as well as the heeled ones.

Decent uniforms, armors and their likes would be welcome, but the same goes for functional armor and clothing for fantasy.

and with functional I mean no chainmail bikini's, etc, but gear that actually protects the wearer, without these high heeled stilts to walk on...

I've got a small portfoloio of unfinished clothing.. not because I can't model, I can model just fine but it's the rigging and weight mapping and JCM's that make the task unsavory!  So I applaud the merchants that can do it all... I envy their patience and persistence.

If I had Cath's skills, I'd be very hard at work right now, Richard.  ;)

I have a few issues with the Sci-Fi stuff.

    1) Lack of complete ships lately (ala, NightShift3D, some of the most complete ships I have seen). Although the Spaceship with detailed interior by coflek-gnorg is a step in the right direction. He could have given the ship a more beautiful shape.

    2) Lack of originality. I see way too many stolen designs from games and movies. I recently purchased two ships that I thought were unique, turns out they were ripped right out off Wing Commander.

    3) Aliens too seem to be taken right off current IP and when they are made there are no clothing items to go along with them, such as helmets for their unique head shapes, etc.

I have a few more, but you get the picture.

Kibarreto made some good stuff, like the Vanguard and Shuttlestar, but good original designs are hard to come by.

  • I was going to say the same about Fantasy Wear...

Raises hand, yep, I buy them, LOL. Funny i saw the Street Casual Outfit for Genesis 3 Female in the new releases and thought how boring, but will probably make the vocal minority happy, guess not wink.

Actually I haven't bought much lately. While the style of outfits fits my tastes, the quality and design are pretty lacking or unimaginative as of late. There are a couple of dancer shops my GF shops at and I see some really great outfits that I would love to see for GF2 or 3. I am still waiting for more heels for V7. I wish lilflame would redo all her V4 heels at rendo for GF3, I would buy them all.

There are a few vendors that I truly repect their modeling skills, but their outfits are usually ones that I can't justify the purchase based on how little i would actually use it, whereas i can use bras, small tops, underwear, heels, etc over and over again.

Agreed and in the same boat with rigging. Luckily when  it comes to props, I can usually model those myself

Yeah sexy females sell and vendors who are doing this full time are trying to make a living so there will always be a high number of underwear and lingerie compared to other types of clothing.

Even swimsuits that are actually suitable for swimming would be a welcome change.

I've been known to buy some of the skimpwear - but there are limits. The funky cut-outs and deep V styles that would need double-sided tape in the real world are out. Fantasy outfits that don't make sense (armor in the wrong places, high heels, wierd cutouts) I pass over.

What I'm really looking for at this point is June Cleaver. Dresses to the knee, two-piece separates with mid-length and long sleeves, and flat soled shoes (loafers, flats, walking shoes). Something suitable for the housewife, the mail girl, the receptionist, the clerk-typist, the girl next door.

I think people do like the copycat sci fi stuff. I would love to see a 1st generation starship Enterprise or Colonial Viper from the original BG, especially since the Cylon Raider (Cyclone) is already out there.

Okay, that's armor, powered and not, and uniforms, light on the fanservice, hold the heels. Got it. Let me see if I can find a decent tutorial and I'll give it another go. Anyone have a preference as far as base figures?

  • Eee'yup, same here. Every time I see new skimpwear, bikinis, undies/bras, and outfits that probably would get your arrested for indecent exposure in the real world, I keep thinking of that scene from 'The Simpsons': "It's Malibu Stacy... with a new hat!" And everyone goes for it.

Frankly, I'd rather see more non-human/creature morphs, and I also echo the cries for practical/functional sci-fi like attire. (i.e. Stuff akin to the armor and even casual gear from the Mass Effect series) But, the stuff that would kill a person if they went on a new, uncharted world due to massive skin exposure and crappy high heels on rocky terrain seems to sell more, so... alas. Guess we're stuck with the old adage of "money talks".

On the note of money... I severely scaled back my "frivolous" purchasing this month for entirely different reasons (saving up money for an out-of-town convention in September and hours have been light at work the last couple months), but to be brutally honest, it's been a good thing in hindsight insofar as Daz Store stuff is concerned. Nothing about G3F has interested me so far, and there's absolutely nothing I feel that's worth my money at the present, save for PAs that I will happily buy from if/when I have the financial means to do so (i.e. SickleYield, Aave Nainen), because I like to try and support the artists who make the stuff I like to see.

I do to, as I wrote about looking for a Warhawk: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/539550/

But, I would like to know that I am buying a model based on an IP.

I have purchased models based on Buckrogers and even the The Last Starfighter's Gunstar Starfighter.

I would like uniforms for both genders for different occupations from science officer to grunt. Preferably not something that looks like a Star Trek uniform, because that limits usability commercially.

Nothing  that looks too retro like ray guns and not too buck Rogers looking. I like modern lines, personally.

I echo the  need for more aliens and skins although I admit to liking more humanoid aliens of the hot variety :)

I'm nowhere near good enough to paint alien skin :P Although I might make morphs to open up the backside a bit for a tail.

Genesis 2 is what most people have and use, DarkSpartan, so my suggestion is to go with that.

I'll see what I can do. My preference is for G3F, but G2F wouldn't be all that hard.

At least I don't think so...

who cares about lingerie or underwears...

    I use naked models.

For my part, it's not often I render anyone in their underwear. I've bought a few token pieces in the past in case the need arises, but aside from demonstrative renders or skin tests they're rarely used. However, I see plenty of people who do use them quite frequently, so it's clear they're popular which is why we see so many most likely.

That said, even something as seemingly simple as panties has a lot more work put into it than you might think. In the short while I've been trying to make my own clothing and slowly learn all of this stuff, I've hit dozens of tiny problems which blow up into big ones throughout the course of the project. Kind of makes me wish there was a good tutorial on making professional clothing, instead of having to piecemeal bits of info I dig out of various old posts.
