We had a few comments about the safety of Roundup awhile back. Please take a look at these sites if you choose to use Roundup. I volunteer at a Hospice, and cancer is a very hard road.

Caturday!
What??? Dogs get a lot of days. Haven't you ever heard of the dog days of summer?
Sorry Chohole, you'll need to speak a little louder.
...some water falling from the sky just south and east of where I am. Maybe we might get a bit here (hope?).
Also a wonderful 76° outside.
Cooler here today, too. I don't think it got warmer than 75. Though right now, 10:00 pm, and it's still 71. So not much difference between day and night temperatures.

...was simply beautiful outside today air smelled so clean after a brief shower.
Went to the market to get a few things for the next week (mostly sandwich stuff as it's going to be hot hot hot again next week and I don't want to heat up the flat by cooking). However, tonight while it's nice and cool I have the chance to make my Cajun seasoned redfish, roasted red potatoes, and buttered baby carrots.
i remember butter. was so tasty
used to love the walker shortbreads cookies
Here it's that time of year again when the morning fog appears. This morning I can hardly see across the street out my front door.
I used to complain when the fogs came because it usually happened on a morning I'd promised to drive our little group of grumpy old men to our weekly breakfast in the next town over. But our little group has either moved away, died or just gotten tired of breakfast. So, fog doesn't bother me anymore.
Non-Complaint: It's also that time of year for watermelon. I've been pigging out on watermelon for a few weeks already, but now the yellow watermelon are here! Mmmm, yum! Yellow watermelon. (*said in my best Homer Simpson voice. *)
I woke up this morning surrounded by low flying clouds, I guess they are not a lot different to fog really, except maybe a tad damper.
Does watermelon have any real flavour?
I was returning home from picking my son up from the airport and when we got back to town around midnight we had what seemed like thick fog. Come to realize it was smoke from the California fire. We live in Ohio so it traveled a long way. I saw reports of it in New York as well.
What the hell is a yellow watermelon. Never heard of them. I don't think I've ever seen one in the store. Is it just the skin that is yellow or in the meat yellow
Yeah I've never seen one of them in any store i go to.
from Specialty produce.com:
The history of the watermelon did not start out as the sweet red watermelon we know today. Early texts written by European botanists have been uncovered depicting images and descriptions of watermelons of various shapes and sizes as well as varying flesh colors of red, white, yellow and orange. In fact, the original watermelon that grew wild in South Africa was most likely a yellow or white flesh variety, but lacked the high sugar levels of today’s watermelons.
It's also interesting that even scientists don't agree on wether watermelon is a fruit or a vegetable!
Yes, but it may be a genetic taste thing that some people notice more than others. And it also helps if you have a properly ripe, fresh, watermelon, which may be difficult to get from a mainstream supermarket. I'm always disappointed by supermarket watermelons and in the wisdom of my elder years only get them in season, from a local fruit market and have the proprietor pick it out for me. (Apparently watermelon wizards can tell if it's properly ripe by knocking it with their knuckles. I can't.) But even then I get a wonky one now and then. Watermelons can be heavenly but they can also be major meh. A properly grown and ripe watermelon practically spits ahead of the knife when you halve it. And the meat should be solid and intact across the whole of the opened halves. If your watermelon meat is split or fragmented then that's an indication that it grew too fast because of over fertilization.
Interesting facts about the chemistry of watermelon color, smell and flavor. https://scienceandfooducla.wordpress.com/2014/08/26/watermelon/
I've never seen the orange variety. Must ask the fruitmarket guy.
how do they pick the seeds out of the watermelons?
Thanks I often wonder. I tend to buy either Galia, Honeydew or Cantalouope, have only tried Watermelon in a mixed concoction, when it is is difficult to sort out the different flavours, as melon flavour is fairly light. It does seem to me thought that melon would be a good base for a mixed fruit juice. I have one container of freshly squeezed juice which is Apple juice (76%) with added watermelon juice (14%), raspeberry puree (8%) and redurrant puree (2%), but the melon probably doesn't add much to that mixture.
vodka is yummi with watermelon.

Very tediously.
Actually the seeds are edible (as is the rind, yuck!). Adds fibre to your diet.
Otherwise, an expert watermelon eater squooshes them out with their tongue, and expels them with precise aim discretely back into the bowl or onto the nearest grassy lawn, ashtray, bin, open window, bag, or whatever... But with modern "seedless" watermelons the seed problem is mostly moot.
Although I still worry about where baby seedless watermelons come from.
When civilization collapses, then seedless watermelon and hybrid sweet corn will go the way of the dodo.
I really feel like Upstate NY has some of the best watermelon in the US- it has the best amount of sun and overcast days to let the melons develope flavor ( watermelons grow like weeds here in Phoenix, but the flavor is weak compared to farmstand melons from NY )
As kids, no BBQ was complete without watermelon and the seed spitting contest that came after. My uncle built a spitting course ( like miniature golf with marks you had to hit and obstacles)... and he always won!
whah makes a whiskey a whiskey and scotch a scotch?
