"I'd pay for it, so I guess there are economic
     benefits right there, yes?"

    Hi
Not if it is proprietary IP.
    Some companies  prefer to protect
the intrinsic value of their IP by restricting its dissemination
    to chosen partners only.

Random people asserting "I am willing to pay"
is not enough incentive to risk the potential
devaluation that would result from general proliferation
    of certain IP.

I am not claiming to know Daz's reason for restricting this particular tool
Just commenting  on the general principle.

That said, I see no reason a clever  third partycoder could not provide an alternative
that does not involve exports to blender blah, blah etc.

Assuming there is enough general demand for such a product.

Displacement offers a ... somewhat decent fill in.

The key is to use base resolution morphs to 'turn' any polygon faces in the right direction, since Daz' implementation is strictly height.

As an aside, there are some displacement systems elsewhere that DO allow different angles of displacement, which is exciting. (From what I understand, basically treated like Normals)

my only issue is those PA's using HD morphs do not provide displacement maps as an alternative for use in exported FBX files etc that do not support HD morphs.

For those rendering elsewhere like in my case iClone.

Im going to disagree, I think Daz Studio would benefit immensely from full fledged modeling, sculpting and UV mapping tools, all the same with a proper dynamics system, and there is absolutely no reason it couldn't be separated into rooms within the default UI (CityLimits lite hides CC tools already, hardly an issue to anyone who wouldn't use them). You all speak of this "bloat" fear, yet people love 3ds Max, Zbrush, 3D Coat, Carrara, Blender, heck even poser crosses the lines with major features, they all have those same capabilities which DS hasn't really explored yet to full potential. Daz btw, tries to present DS as a modeler, have done so on their home page and blurbs for years (Which has always been a questionable claim). I feel that they've been noticeably heading that direction, for some time now, and its a lot easier to make content for DS in DS.

+1 I'd love to be able to do modeling and maybe even UV painting in Daz.

I animate in IClone but export MDD/.obj to C4D where my HD details
are retained in the .obj export  but I usually export at base res except for
    close  up face animation shots.

why I want maps, I can tesselate in iClone use subdiv in render in Carrara and load those maps,

Yep, Hex doesn't need anything else, just 64 bit and stability.

Yes - 64 bit and stability and I'd happily pay $50 or more for an upgrade.

Sounds like the stuff of dreams. So much so that I can actually imagine it incorporated into a scene from a romantic novel...

'Forget the moon, sweetheart. I'll give you 64-bit Hex with stability', he promised.

    'Oh, darling!'

Maybe this woman is just too easily pleased :)

In 2015 Genesis 3 launched and was by far the most rapidly and broadly adopted of any of our figure generations to date.  Two years later, with day one behind us, Genesis 8 has 59% greater adoption than Genesis 3 did at the end of day one, and it appears to be widening that margin even more.  We're obviously please and excited by this.  But we're also appreciative.  Thank you all for all you do to support our efforts and encourage us.

We have some really big things planned for the back half of this year.  We think it will surprise and impress a lot of you.  We understand that change is not without pain, but we are committed to always improving, advancing, and moving forward.  We're pleased that so many of you have chosen to take that journey with us.

    Our humble thanks,

    Daz 3D

Well, what are the great improvements of G8, are the problems with the hip, hip bone, crotch fixed if it comes to bendings, is is region smoother or will we have unwanted edges and folds like on g3? What about the "edge" the waist and hip size morphs causes on the back like on G3, is this fixed on G8? Do we still need to buy a lot of converters and third party products (body morphs) just to make the figure work well like with g3? For me is clear, will not jump up on the G8 train.
