G8F is a non-starter for me right now. I'm not seeing incredible improvement, I think the base isn't actually that attractive of a character, and it would cost me hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars to put together all of the morphs, UVs and other utilities I have that make everything from V3 to G3 highly cross compatible. GenX2, Zev0s morph packages and skin packages, pose conversion utilities, Cayman's UV geografts, all the clones for the various generations...
The cost/benefit analysis says that G3 is the sweet spot for Daz character renders for the foreseeable future. A lot of these things simply aren't available at any price yet. You just can't do as much with G8F. I'm wondering if someone will pick up GenX2 development and add support for G8G/V8. If that doesn't happen, this generation has a huge liability.
Did anyone pick up the new Crystal Dragon? I think I'm going to need to see other people's renders of him before I can even contemplate picking him up - he looks like he has some bad skin disease. the crystals look awful - hoping it's just a case of the promos looking like that, so I'm curious what other people's reactions are.
Actually a dragon with so many crystals has extra weight, diminished aerodynamics and thus less flight potential. Would have been good for a ground-hugging lindworm, for a flying dragon - not so much. Yes, I know, they are mythical beings and supposed to fly with magic. But as any author could tell you, you need to stick with things the public can somehow believe it functiones, or they won't accept your imaginary beings.

I have been considering them; the price difference just irritated me.
I think it's pretty cool-looking, especially the blue version. If we have the imagination to believe they can fly without crystals, we can believe they fly with them. I'm glad they're still adding to the dragon. I'd love to see more tiny morphs.
Yeah, they got me today. I was trying to be good, but couldn't pass it up. I'll post some renders as soon as I get it downloaded. We're having storms right now that are slowing down my satellite internet.

Ah, well, if he's a space dweller he doesn't need to consider weight. But then again, there's no air to fly in, so the dragon could need his wigs as kind a solar sails ...
I think the Crystal Dragon would look good if you substituted a bony plate texture for the crystals...giving it a semi dinosaur look.
BTW, with Minotaur 6 currently in FG, it drops to $4 with 2 of the animal new releases. I wish it would work by combining the tornado with the the dragon. (Dragonado?) Then, I'd get it for sure. But, I'm holding off on the new cat for now.
Shoes often don't autofit well, and with soles like that there's a good chance those wouldn't. Besides there's a foot pose included, so they were probably not made for the default foot pose (once again not good for autofit).
I wouldn't be surprised if the Neko hat had non-standard bodyparts for posing, and it would lose those if you simply autofit it.
Decals base would certainly autofit but that might lead to texture distortion.
So this is the kind of set where a refit makes sense IMO.
I know... I'm still mentally stuck wondering how centaurs have time to do anything else given what they need to eat to keep that body going. And what do they eat anyway and with which stomach do they digest it? Do centaurs even have a human stomach? ...

The crystals are a separate piece, like the eyelashes are for G8F. You can delete the addon to get rid of them. I was a bit disappointed there were no size morphs for them. I'm not a fan, but I was willing to try them as nubbins. But it's all or nothing. But I digress... The point I meant to make is they are an addon, an "anatomical element" of sorts. I wouldn't be surprised if someone came out with a bony plate addon, and/or other addons as well. I'd buy a bony plate addon from RawArt in a heartbeat...

Do you recall the time where the percentage off went up every day for several days? They could be trying that again. Personally, I'm not buying two new releases to get all of 9% off a gift card. I've got store credit, but to get the gift card, I'd have to forego the credit for the new releases. Not happening. Not for 9%... 20%...? maybe...

I myself would like several things from todays sale but unfortunately no higher discount for multiple purchases. That's what I hate especially once there is nothing in the bonus items. Might get that figure from Mirhelle anyhow. All figures from that vendor are great.
Yes. And I suspect it generated a lot of complaints to CS from people who bought them early with the lower discount. So, I doubt they will try it again; but you never really know.
Depends on how recently Ophelia7 lost her "NEW" tag, which usually rules out an item being included in sale offers like this. The tag lasts 60 days, and if it goes off just a few days before a sale goes active, the programmed sale conditions might not pick up on the change of state. This happens all the time, we notice, send off an aaaiiieee-mail to Sales Support, and the glitch gets fixed manually.
She's got some great stuff over at Rendo too. Fantastic work by that PA in both stores.
She was released on 9th May, so yes they may not have caught up with her for this sale. We have sent in a query.
It seems like DAZ is feeling out what the minimum amount of discount is that will get the maximum amount of sales.
I don't think they've got the formula quite right. My purchases have fallen off a cliff and I don't see it reversing. It was hard at first... but every day I go without buying something, the easier it gets - like any addiction.
DAZ tough love... where your drug of choice forces you to give it up for something healthier.

And I absolutely do not understand the hype of using V4 maps on V8...
What does this bring to the table that using V4 maps on G1, G2, or G3 doesn't already offer, really? Especially Genesis 3. By the time I figure out the price for a V8 Pro, morph packages, the Cayman geografts... I'm still left with a character that doesn't have all the flexibility of G3 yet as far as body shaping and other utilities (like scripted map translation between generations)... There is nothing like Annagenesis 2 to give those old maps Iray quality on V8 yet, either, right? eventually I'd have to buy those too, when they come out... and at the end...
Genesis 8/V8 seems a little like an Xbox One or PS4 - it is an upgrade that no one but the vendor really needs - at least at release. Maybe a year from now it will offer some compelling reason... but the prices would have to be at pennies on the dollar - or it would have to make commercial sense in producing some sort of revenue for me as an artist.
The worst thing would be if you were just getting into DAZ and figured the LATEST generation must be the most powerful. I don't think that is the case. The latest generation is the least flexible, at this point - figuratively, anyhow.
Anyone who has V8, what are the great value adds that justify all the expense compared to Genesis 3?
I have the base Genesis 8 Female. I have not purchased any of the morphs packs or any characters, including V8. I have purchased the Mega Wardrobe from OOT, but I can use that on G3F, too, and is the only reason I bought. That doesn't mean I don't like G8F, only that I'm not willing to invest another couple $1Ks in another generation...
However... I've spent a lot of time in the Morphs from G3 to G8 thread, and I've now got 112 shape morphs of G3F characters and "7" figures I can use on my G8F. I'm still working on G2F shapes. And I've even got a few G1 characters I can convert. Using GenX to create V4, (et al) shapes to g3, I can create shape morphs for those as well. So it's really nice I can use Cayman's Legacy products to use the original skin materials on G2F and V4 shapes on my G8F. In the aforementioned thread, we were practically begging him to do these products.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know he's been listening and is filling a need for some of us. In fact, I've got the V4 product in my cart right now. The only reason I haven't checked out is I'm trying to decide if I want to buy the shoes so I can get three "7" figures at 82% off. And since reading that Ophelia might make the sale, I'm going to wait a bit longer to make up my mind.
FWIW, here's an image I posted in the Morphs thread. One figure is Rune 7. The other is G8F with Rune's shape and materials. Can you tell them apart?

I'm with you L'Adair, only I sprang for the V8 Pro bundle. there are enough products in there that I thought it was worth it. But if I'd seen that G3 to G8 thread first I probably wouldn't have bothered. I'm working my way through all of my Genesis 3 characters and then I go back and work on some of the others. I did find out when I was working on G3 with GenX2, that I didn't have to convert the Gen4 characters to Genesis and then to Genesis 2 and then to Genesis 3. You can go straight into Genesis 3.
Donovancolbert, since G8 uses G3 skins, you can just load up G3 and run her through anagenesis2, then load the skin directly onto G8. no geografts involved.
