That's really unfortunate. Had this been communicated a bit clearer (the banners say nothing about it being limited to the weekend), I would have bought the stuff I wanted on time. But the promotion worked in a way that encouraged waiting one more day because the activating buy from the "Coven" promo would also trigger the other discounts.
But given that the "Final Days" of the Daz Blowout were almost a week long following a six day promo, and this looked like a sale that would at least be active for a week, I am really disappointed at the poor communication here. I'm not saying I expected more characters to be part of that sale, but right now the banners are still advertising a sale that's over already.
I doubt I will ever get these Pro packs in the future as it would have to be a better deal than this. Not happy about this.
Ok, guys, just got word. The girls of summer has the discounts back and they will run through the end of today (Monday).
Should be fixed, could you verify, let us know?
Nope, just tryed, doesn't work.
Re-reported
Thank you for that.
Now re-fixed and seems t be working.
don't get used to that. In general weekend sales are just that, wekend sales. There vare no end times on sales at DAZ, so jump on them when you can. I had 10 items in my cart from fri and pulled the trigger last night at 11 pm knowing from experience that if I didn't, I would lose the sale, glad i did, LOL.
OK, works now.
Bad boys extra 20% worked for me now. Thanks.
Looking over those three sales pages, I do see "weekend"... now that you've pointed it out. Honestly, to avoid confusion, when a promo within a sales page expires before the rest of the sales on that page, it should be removed. Better yet, don't put it/them on the sales pages. Had the Girls of Summer been on a separate banner, DAZ could have pulled the banner down when the promo ended... and the fact it was just for the weekend would have been more obvious. Customers have gotten used to the offer being live as long as the banner is up.
What about the Bad Boys of DAZ? Will that offer stay live for the entire time the sales page is up? I don't see any time qualifier in the adcopy...
ETA: Thank you for getting the Girls of Summer offer extended one more day.
When I first saw the promo for Nino I thought he was Onin...
Today's new sale , Out Of Touch, several hairs on sale but not the add-on hair color kits? Intended?
The question that comes to my mind, with the Girls of Summer, followed by the Bad Boys of Daz, followed by the G3F Stack Up... does this mean Vicky 8 is about to hit the store?
On the one hand, I really don't want to see Genesis 4 for a couple more years. Once G4 is out in force, support for G3 will dry up, just as support for G2 all but disappeared within months of the first G3 male release. I'd like to see more products for G3, especially G3 males. And I'd like to see vendors like Zev0 come out with more utilities for G3, rather than rehashing existing products to support another generation.
On the other hand, I don't plan on investing in G4, so I'll have more money to spend on Stonemason sets, AM animals, Predatron plants, TerraDome addons, and so on. Not to mention being able to get some of the more expensive G3 bundles at deep discounts from time to time. I might even break down and learn how to model cloths for my soon-to-be obsolete G2 & G3 figures.
In the meantime, I have to decide if I want to spend $100+ on G3F stuff from the Stack Up sale, or drop back to the $28 cart I had last night... 68% to 78% discounts are hard to pass up.
Stack up is a really strong sale on a lot of nice hair.
I agree and I am in the same boat as you. I have 12 items in my cart right now at a pretty decent discount. While it is easy for me to say I don't want to invest in the next figure (I say that every figure, LOL) I know I will eventually buy into it. There are still lots of things I want for my genesis 3 figures.
As for support for existing figuires drying up, I still buy V4 stuff to use on genesis 3 as I have had pretty good luck with autofit and turning things into dynamic, so unless the new figure has zero backwards compatibility, I feel pretty sure I will still get plenty of use out of most existing items I use on older figures (shoes being the exception). I honestly can't imagine what a new figure would bring that we can't already do with the current figures other than small improvements that could/should be implemeneted as fixes to the current figures instead.
I've pretty much stopped buying G3-only products - one last month. One the previous month (after looking at invoices). I even use Plat Club coupon to buy an item in my wish list; $6 for a $4.50 item - simply nothing else I could see I wanted, unless I wanted to add cash, which I didn't.
Better hair, I feel, doesn't have to be a G4 only product, although it would likely break something somewhere, indirectly if not directly.
I'm curious about G4, but as Daz has kept quite during all the speculation and complete guess-work, it seems certain that we'll see G4 this or next month... My thinking being, that it would have made sense to announce it would not be coming this year, as that might encourage some to spend who otherwise wouldn't.
I'm always careful of saying that in relation to technology related advancements.
How about if the new figures had better dynamic physics and collision? If things like hair and clothes interacted with a more real-world physics engine with the rest of the scene? If rigging for animation was improved in a way that made pinning bones easier and better...
My problem is that technology advances usually come with increased content control and restrictions implemented by the vendor. I can see future versions of characters being harder to transfer from generation to generation with morph utilities like GenX2, or otherwise implementing limitations that DAZ would like to see and that DAZ consumers might not find as welcome. Whatever DAZ sees as problems with their product line right now... expect to see those things "fixed" in the next generation of character - with a subsequent effort by end-users and content creators to get around those fixes.
I just got a notification that my payment to Adobe failed - and just like that, Illustrator CC started popping up a notification that I had 24 days to give them their money or their goons would come and break my knees.
Oh, wait... that is my other overdue bill. Adobe just told me Illustrator would stop working in 24 days if I didn't pay. But, anyhow... this is one example. I'd rather pay once and not have a subscription model for Illustrator. But that is better for ME as a consumer and worse for Adobe as a publisher. That isn't forward progress for ME... but it is for Adobe. Those are the kind of changes I worry about.
I know you probably have already, but Emma and Jordi's female characters have a nice variety of skin materials, you can use the morphs from other characters and apply the skins. Open up the products and look at the thumbnails, you get a woman with spiders, vampires, etc. At around $6 a gal, it was fun shopping!
And yeah, Victoria 8 was guessed for this summer. I'm another one stocking up on Genesis 3 because I'm limiting another generation- I have more than what I can use now.
Indeed.
... But I can and do vote with my wallet.
I wish more people would vote against Adobe's Creative Cloud with their wallet.
These are more app based improvements, not figure based, so no reason they can't add these to DS now and have them work with genesis 3, but then it wouldn't be a reason to charge users for it since DS is free.
We have plenty of products coming out regularly even without a new generation... :)
There would need to be additions to the figures to provide data for density, elsastic modulus and the like.
Also, DAZ Studio Advanced and Pro used to cost, $229.95 andd $429.95 list, respectively...
This is why I'm still using Photoshop 7... I've thought about going as far as an earlier version of CS, to make it more Daz bridge friendly, but haven't made the jump yet. Photoshop 7 is still quite useful, and still beats out Gimp by a long shot.
I totally am in that same voter's box. I've used Premiere since version 4.0 and bought most of the upgrades. But, I hate that the CC versions are subscription only. I think they should have some variation of the subscription that gives you access to the current version in perpetuum until the next upgrade is purchased. Otherwise, it feels like they hold your working projects hostage. You don't continue to pay the subscription fee, you can't open up all those projects you created over the years. But of course, that is for another forum entirely....now, back to Daz. ;)
On a related note, I think Daz's sales model is pretty darn successful - give away the main program, models, and toolset, but sell the heck out of all the accessories. I've spent WAY more over the last couple of years on Daz models and tools than I have spent on any single program. And, I don't even use 3D to make my living...yet....;)
As to a new Generation 4 / Vicky 8 ...etc., I'm wondering what would be the improvements. Possibly, the basic HD form would be built into the mesh. Also, the facial movements might be improved. Maybe even higher res textures could be used. Honestly, I'm already very impressed with just how real the current generation figures appear. Some of the early V4 figures have really well done textures. So, it's not just about photo realism.
Perhaps, the new generation might have even better built in joint / mesh reaction, like calf muscles that bulge and tighten automatically when the knee bends, or biceps that flex.
Of course, what I'd love to see is a new gravity simulation for auto dynamic clothing and hair, along iwth collision detection that resists all poke through.
Just pondering....
It took months or years to build up my G3 library. Now I have so much stuff in my library that I won't be able to render everything in my entire lifetime I guess - well given my hardware, even a tenth of my library would do ;-) Not counting all the G2, G and V4 stuff - and there are really some nice things there I rediscover often once searching the store and keeping the stuff I own shown.
So will I invest in G4? Not much in the first months I would say. I'll probably get Vicky 8 if a good deal comes around. But the rest I'll try to ignore for the moment. There are so many deals on G3 Pro Bundles I simply could not grab due to already having them. So I might focus on learning, rendering and maybe even trying to create. And saving the money to buy a decent new machine eventually. But I'm damn sure G4 will have some nifty advantages to tempt me. Resistance is futile.
But the thought is nice at least. Waiting until MM 2018 and then starting over with a new machine and saving big on all G4 stuff which might have been released until then.
Exactly. :)
I did. I have the CS6 Master Collection, so I have everything I could ever need. I refuse to use their subscription service.
+1 to the first paragraph, and another +1 for the second... (And then some! lol)
And on a DAZ note, I finally pared my cart down to $47 and change, with the monthly coupon applied. Six hairs, one elf bundle and a pc+ castle. And with that, I've spent 1/2 of June's budget... and it's only the 6th!
