I was almost certain I was going to buy something last night/today. But the two products I was hoping for did not appear. So.... possibly as displacement activity I loaded up my cart with a bunch of stuff I had only a vague interest in. It was kind of fun in a window shop way-- lots of $.36 outfits. But I had no temptation to actually click 'buy'.
There's even things in currently running sales I want. The Stonemason Greebles, lighting stuff... but I have no incentive to buy right now. The introductory discount is 30% for two weeks (I think) and I can't get stuff much cheaper by loading up now... so I wait. And possibly get distracted/decide I can wait a few months...
Maybe Memorial Day will have a crazy sale.
I did take advantage of the Poser Flashback sale to round out my content a bit (and sipped the Kool Aid to get the extra 10% from the StoneMason sale) , but yeah most of the stuff this week hasn't quite been enough to get me to pull the trigger.
The Vanishing Point stuff looks nice, but due to the hit and miss nature of Poser products (using them in Daz, not Poser that is), plus the fact that most of it would be 'impulse buys' not 'I need that', yeah well it's nice to have a 'quieter' week for a change. My CC needs time to cool down anyways...
Maybe this is a sign that I finally have enough content to spend more time rendering and less time shopping! Oh wait, I probably jinxed it...
I've been thinking the same thing. Let's go back and revisit all of that content and see if I got anything that does anything as cool as it claims it does.
I test items out right after I buy them, doesn't everyone?
They just pulled the Vanishing Point sale and now there is only the 30% introductory discount. The $5 or less price and the discounts for multiple items are gone. My cart with 6 items that was a total of $18 just jumped to $49. NOT HAPPY !!!
I thought it would last at least for the day.
Dumping everything and not purchasing anything from DAZ. I will not be subject to the 'buy it now because it could disappear at any time policy' DAZ seems to follow.
A '6 hours only/expires at 3 PM MST' or similar note on a page would be quite nice. Adding this note to the artwork for the sale would be a trivial thing to do, if they didn't want to bother with adding a .html/php label or something.
Worst thing that might happen is that someone forgets to take the sale down at the appointed time, so it goes long (not a bad thing), but I'm sure Daz would rake in more cash because people KNOW they have to move on a sale, rather than be all pissed off every time a sale disappears unexpectedly.
As I remember, one or more of the recent flash sales actually had '4 hours only' in the ad banner for the promos. Customer service should be at the top of the list for any retailer, online or otherwise, and this is such a trivial thing to do that takes next to no effort, as opposed to being snowballed by multiple help requests to 'honor the sale' because someone didn't know that the sale was about to expire as they were adding stuff to their cart. I'm sure that the sales team has better things to do with their time, and this would take a bit of workload off of them, i.e. dealing with these complaints every time a sale disappears.
And the VP sale wasn't even listed as a flash sale. It was listed in the daily email and looked like a normal sale

A new day -- A new sale. 80% off is always nice but there have been so many V4/M4 sales at deep discounts already that there is not much left; AND it certainly doesn't makeup for having the VP sale pulled early.
Looks like another day my wallet is safe
Ghost Lights 2 and Create-A-Room. Mine's not, but at least these are pre-planned purchases...
There seem to be some stacking glitches on some of the V4 stuff with a new purchase, and any new purchase works for the larger discounts.
Which is all I'm going to say about it, except I just got two V4 charcters for $.50 and $.37 each.
I like those too; but at only a 30% discount they have been added to my wishlist to await a better sale.
Same here, and similarly disgruntled at the VP sale vanishing while I was waiting to hear back on a query about a glitched store page.
Weird. Belladzines is in the featured V4/M4 sale... but she has no items listed!
The thing is, 80% for V4 generation items, is not good discount, but more than most are worth. It sounds like a lot but isn't.
So I occasionally check them out, and even occasionally buy something - but they take quite a bit of work to get to a place I'm happy with. Others' opinions and experience may vary, so hopefully some are filling the cart with what they consider cheap items.
I really hope you filed a ticket to complain about the VP sale vanishing mid-day. Maybe if enough people complain they will restore it or do another sale on VP items at significant discounts.
But until then I'm voting with my wallet and keeping it safely away from DAZ.
Why is it the days that require multiple items, there's only one that I want. On a day with no additional discount, there are multiple items. Oh, well.... Wishlisted.
@Nicstt
Especially when it is V4 stuff from RDNA that has been dirt cheap and suddenly has been priced higher than ever before, prior to having a "deep discount" applied, resulting it being about as dirt cheap as it has always been, when I put it in my cart with a new item.
I mean... SURE, the retail list price on Vanilla Sky is $19.99... but it has been at $1.99 - $4.99 more often than not for the last 12+ months, but now if I buy a NEW item at a "30% off introductory discount," I can get 80% off the retail list price which is... around $1.99... (I just picked Vanilla Sky as an example of content that has been popular - but mostly because it is cheap and crafty people can jump through hoops to reuse it on later generations with UV maps, shaders like Anagennisis 2, and things like GenX2.)
And there is all this cheap "poser" stuff flooding the store that MIGHT work with Studio or might not... but really just makes me wade through a lot of stuff that is V3/M3 generation 3 era or older content. I'm not sure if a poser pickaxe for some strange toon character is EVER going to be worth $1.50 to me. It seems like something that should be constantly in the Freebie category here. Heck... it seems like something I'd never consider downloading as a Freebie from ShareCG, to be honest. And there is a LOT of it to wade through lately.
I haven't been understanding the sales promotion strategy here since March Madness, or the hype over "new" content that has been arriving that frankly, seems like content from other vendor sites that I wouldn't buy over there because of the age of the content and the fact that it actually designed for Poser. I mean, I always hear a lot of Poser users complaining that Poser doesn't get any love from the Daz Marketplace - and they're certainly getting it now. But if I need a 767 or a Gulfstream I'm going to purchase one designed for Studio from Ironman or Perry Walinga - not an old Poser one that I might be able to update with shaders with morphs that won't work right in DAZ, if they work at all. I'll give that kind of content a shot when it is free... or if I could get a cartload of it for under a buck or two...
I've been seeing a lot of V3/M3 stuff too, that is priced really high, also... and that makes me go, "really?" That stuff is *really* difficult to get to work with later generations - and in most cases isn't a great buy at any price, in my opinion.
Ok... rant over. I'm with Charlie... my wallet has been pretty safe. I have to dig through a mountain of stuff to find the couple of items that are really old that have a discount deep enough that it really seems justified, lately. It has made my purchases far less frequent.
Yep, this whole end of the week has been a bust for me. A Poser Sale Thursday, Noithing I wanted/needed on ther Bad Moon Rising Sale, the aborted Vanishing point sale, then todays V4/M4 sale. I wishiisted Collective3D's Create a Room Xpack3 because I stll need to get the Base and Xpack1 items so it is useless to me until it goes on sale at a deeper disocunt or a bundle discounted price on sale. I havent done V4/M4 for years and don't even have them loaded in DS any more. Will go ahead and pull the trigger on the Ghost Lights 2 Kit as all I use to light scenes are the lights added by the vendor for the scene/enviornment, HDRI skydomes, and Ghost Lights so it will be used immediately. Much less taxing on my system than cranking up the emissives. Oh well, maybe next weeks sales will be a little better (or at least something on my wishlist
).
I definitely don't mind an "only" 30% discount for KA and Collective3d products. Such general utility! Which is all I can really afford and justify right now. 30% off isn't much after MM but they're not things I want to wait 3-6 months for.
Not much for me, especially after the featured VP sale disappeared and the VP items I wanted suddenly went up in price yesterday; Oh well some other sites are having a Mothers Day sale
What happened to the VP sale? Weird to pull it after only a day. I had stuff in my cart but dumped it. I can wait.
The VP sale disappeared in less that a day. Its a mystery.
Gotta luv discount stacking...
I combined three different sales (Stonemason, Poser Flashback piggybacks pretty easily, Summer V4/M4). There are a few items that will drop to 34 cents using that combo. Maybe further. I already dipped into the Stonemason sale once before this week for that +10% with the Poser sale, so I don't know if you could save even more combining summer and poser for the items I snagged before. Not disappointed either way though, I felt like I got really good deals the first time.
Of course, you'll need to pay the 'entry price' for thee different new items, 1 Summer and 2 Stonemason sale items. Some may find that price too high, but I feel pretty good about most of the items I ended up with (except one, which I went for strictly for the discount, I saved more with it than without, though.
Admittedly, I already had pretty much everyting I needed from the first poser go round, but there were a few items that I passed on the first time that were more attactive with the additional discounts. Plus a couple of bundles. For those that already have most of the useful V4 items, yeah I can see why you guys weren't all that impressed this week. I'm still rounding out my library, but most of this week was 'meh' for me as well sales wise.
The nice thing was that a few of the new items in the Summer V4/M4 sale are actually useful to me. I picked just one, but I'll be watching for one or two others in future sales...
The other sales (Bad Moon, Ophelia) just haven't moved me. I'm not big on characters, I have a bajillion face and body morphs at this point and usually end up tweaking 'prebuilt' characters anyways, and have a pretty good collection of prebuilt characters already thanks to bundles, previous sales, and a whole bunch of freebies from several sites.
I moved quickly since the sales team seems to like terminating sales unannounced. I'd probably have added a couple of VP items to my cart today if that sale had lasted more than 4-6 hours... I'll wait for the next time VP goes on sale, assuming the discounts are good.
While the recent rumor/reports about a data breach at Rendo has left me skeptical, the one thing I can say about their promo emails is that they are usually crystal clear about how long any particular sale is going to go (at least in the emails I bothered to read). As they offer direct competition in regard to Daz items, the Daz sales team should really take note of that if they want to increase their own income, as witnessed by the number of 'I'm done with Daz purchases' posts we've already seen in this thread.
Haven't heard of a data breach, but I do like that the sales are clearly marked as to when they begin and end. I actually plan my shopping there to make sure I hit the sales before they end. It's a nice feature.
I did find some nice stuff today in the Poser and M4/V4 blowouts. There is a little stacking going on. Managed to get 32 items for $37, and that included 10 outfits in the V4 Unmesh Bundle #2 and 5 dynamic outifts in Esha's Poser Clothroom Masterclass Mega Bundle.
I don't use Poser as often as I use DAZ, but I'd like to understand the clothroom better. I picked up VWD earlier this month and am hoping to be able to use the outfits in DAZ this way too. There's also a free script at Carrarra Cafe that allows you to import dynamic clothing from Poser to DAZ or Carrara. Interested in trying that out too. In that mystical free time!
Not sure about Rendo having a data breach but I can confirm that I have had two card that were used at Rendo both being compromised. Luckily, I practice safe purchasing and have a Bluebird prepaid card and a separate Visa debit account at my bank that are specifically for internet/Ebay/PayPal purchases. Was nice when Chase called me asking me if the $1600.00+ in bank charges were mine or not. Phone call, email, and a text on a Saturday evening saying "are these your charges".. From now on, I will do PayPal only at Rendo and see what happens. My first choice is almost always Daz 3D for content purchases (I joined PC again as soon as I got back into digital art) but Rendo does have some nice items (mainly clothing with more morphs). I do like that they tell you the exact length of the sale (usually 48 hours). Now if DAZ can just get their sales straight...
Yep, ticket filed. Who knows, maybe the horse will learn to sing...
Just had a look at today's blowout artists and noticed Surreality and Digital Art have no items in the sale despite being featured artists.
Very tempted by the big V4 Unimesh clothing bundle though!
LOL, it said 0 out of 217 items for Surreality- and I knew I hadn't been shopping THAT much. Edit- just checked Optitex and that one too.
Surreality has no items in the featured blow out sale, Optitex has only one, Liquid Rust has no items, Digital Art Live has none, and finally bluebird3d has eight but none of them are showing a discount price.
Well done, DAZ, well done.
We have sent in a query about this.
