  • Does anyone know if prop painter works in Daz 6? It says it's windows only but doesn't say whether it works in 6.  The screenshots only have 4.24.

I'm also still trying to understand what it does.  Is it an instancer and it saves you having to manually put props somewhere, where you can just point and click on a place to create an instance there, with a few features to add random orientations, scale, etc.?

It's for DS 4 and DS 6. And yes your explanation is correct, it cuts out all the time spent manually placing props amd just does it as point and click,(or stroke)

    Thank you!

  • Prop Painter: For me, it comes under the 'appreciate' part of the thread title. Perfect. This is what I have wanted for DS since realising that 'FlowScape' (where this functionality was at the core of the scenery painter) was a dead end and was never going to have an export function that would allow DS to render it.

I will get it when finances allow. Regretfully, that isn't today.

    Regards

    Speed Instancer | Daz 3D

I got really excited when I saw that. Then I realised it's not what I thought it was. I had hoped it was something that could add the effect of speed in renders - blurred backgrounds, wheelspin, etc.

    Me too

So, does it? Inquiring minds want to know before buying.

I assume you refer to two of the following:

If I've mischaracterized any of these, or the PAs have updates, update away. I'm also sure Totte and others like RiverArts are busy updating older assets. And if any PAs want to share...

I'm also expecting Wendy to mention some other thing I've missed. I should post this in the PA forum. A collection of coming soon tools would be a useful thread.

the second and third of those were the ones I was thinking of

we are certainly getting a plethora of tools

It was an instabuy for me but it will have to wait till tomorrow for downloading and playing with it. Though as it's a Stonemason product I'm honestly not expecting any problems.

Can I use any props or am I restricted to only certain ones?

There are a lot of in-viewport tools and plugins around lately, I wonder if paint-on-object like in Blender was doable with Daz-APIs? Paint opacities, paint on geoshells, basically have basic Substance Painter features.

I'm not rich, and the product description doesn't answer all of my questions. At the moment I use ALT-LeftDrag to drag individual props out of my content and into a scene. If I want to add lots of instances to a ground plane (for example) I have Ultrascatter Pro. I can use any props in my inventory, and I have a lot of props in my inventory. How does Prop Paint help me here? I hope this doesn't sound hostile or picky, because I really like the idea of richer, more detailed, and more random environments.

I decided to pick this up, and yeah this thing's seriously cool.  It doesn't do anything you can't do manually, but if you want to create a unique and detailed environments with lots of instances of something, it certainly saves time.

The first picture is just a POC, with using it's features and default concrete block to create randomly turned blocks of varying scale.  It's literally just point and click on the surface to create them.  You can certainly add one manually, create 40+ instances of it, and manually turn them/scale them/etc. but this just makes it point and click.  I then added a second item (the grass bits in the middle) and it handled two different types fine.  I then baked them into a single mesh, and it was smart enough to create the mesh as seperate surfaces for the blocks and plants so you can still change the surface/add a lie/etc without affecting the plants (the third image).

I then added my entire props library to it (accidentially, I didn't quite mean to add EVERYTHING), and then picked a prop at random (the bowl of apples) and added it (not using any randomizing features) and it handled custom props just fine, and was able to save that as a seperate mesh.  The second image shows what it looks like if you add your own (you do so by hitting browse library and selecting whatever folder(s) you want).  I've never used ultrascatter but this is a point and click "add this prop here" utility.

  • Here's another example where it's raining money using proppainter and then using MatineeFX for the cam.

  • You can also use a cuboid or spheroid volumetric swarm freebie for some things like leaves, money, bubbles, bees or flies..

I wouldn't classify A.D.A.P.T. as related to any of the mentioned scatterers, It's more like Align Ace, but on steroids.

Tottes Ecology painting tool and your nature tools were the 2 I was referring to, the quote of RichardandTracy's post didn't work well

it should work with any props in your DAZ library, including those with other props parented to them.

I grabbed it right away!! It's like Vue eco-paint which I used a lot. Can't wait to play with this.

So if I understand right, this merges all your instances into a single enormous mesh with actual geometry, rather than saving as a batch of instances? Does it have a save as instance function, or do you just save instance groups as usual once painted?

it creates instances, you can retain those instances as is, save etc..I also included a commit to mesh option if you want to export the geometry to another app

Commit to mesh means the instances become regular geometry

I think a lot of apps have this tool, I use something similar in 3dsMax when building my environments and always wanted something like it in DS, I have a couple more plugins to release this year and then I'm looking forward to using Prop Painter in building some new environments.

I can see where converting to mesh would be very useful, but in practice it's just a much more efficient way to populate a scene with instances exactly where you want them. I particularly like the erase tool, and the quick, detailed layering it's capable of, using virtually any prop in your library, so thanks for that! Sure to become my go-to tool for scene scatters.

Oh great, thank you! excited to try it out.

Stonemason, I take it that the prop expansion sets can be used without the Prop Painter plugin? They look like they woud be handy even if I have to place them individually since I can't use the plug in. Thanks

Absolutely Ghost, and sorry for the lack of Mac support

From what I recall Ultrascatter distributes instances based on an image mask, Prop Painter paints props into the scene. I could imagine using ultrascatter for large areas and maybe using Prop Painter for more refined placement

So, bought and installed onto 4.24, no problems. For the most part it seems intuitive. A couple of questions though:

     - I have a large collection of Martin J Frost plants of many different kinds. It is not at all obvious how to best organise these products into Prop Painter. If I navigate to a folder in my DAZ library, it seems to link to all the files, including shaders and materials, creating more collections in the process. It becomes messy very quickly, even with one or two products.

    - In addition, unlike the default library, it doesn't seem to pick up the prop images, so I am flying blind. I can see the titles, but not the image.

     - to try to keep the interface manageable, I try to delete references to things like shaders, but they don't go until I restart studio.

    Still learning :-) Thanks.
