Complaint: The flu is lingering with weakness, rundown, achy joints, the occasional killer headache and runny nose. Worse than that, I am shopping some wonderful items during this sale and I have absolutely no ambition to create any image with them at this time. I get fleeting ideas that get crushed by the flu symptoms.

Non-Complaint: Today I saw that Censored had her store in the sale, went back to look for what she had for sale. From there I found the outfit she worked on with Heatherlily. Lovely. Both PAs' stores got raided, but in Censored's I found a bundle she did with CynderBlue. Lovely work by all and now in my Runtime. And I am too wiped out to play with anything.

@memcneil70 Hope you feel better soon! And I agree, the Renvana bundle is outstanding.

non-complaint: Teen Kiddo had a sore arm from their shot on Tuesday, but that was the extent of it. Little Dude's schedule was mercifully (mostly) compatable with the day's plans, so Teen and I got some errands run while he was hanging with my folks, including finding fabric for the baking apron they so dearly want. They're a very slight person, and all the things we saw online for them I could tell just by looking wouldn't fit well and would just wind up annoying them to all heck and gone. With a yard of fabric and a little time I can throw something together on the fly that they'll like a lot better. Step one accomplished: fabric. Now for the time...

complaint: Little Dude's shot messed him up considerably more, between stomach issues and the expected bit where his sleep schedule gets thrown into an absolute blender. He's been tiring out fast, sleeping for a couple hours, being up for a few hours, then going back down for a while, and lather, rinse, repeat. If my circadian rhythms hadn't flipped a table long ago, this definitely would've done it.

A friend of mine at the workplace said something about flipping a table. Actually all of them. He said he was going to flip everything. He got one of those negative reviews from our new handler. My ex-handler had told us to go easy on the new guy the first week. So when he said I did something wrong the first time, and the second time, I didn’t get snippy. Then he did an official review and said I did something wrong. I got snippy. A few other people got snippy about their reviews too. So we'll see how long the tables last.

Recently, my aunt told me that her offspring and I both “thickened up”. I did inform her that those kind of comments are not good for a person like me, who has all kinds of self-image issues. She declared she wasn’t calling either of us out of shape though. She said we were too skinny in the first place. She said we used to be “rail thin”. She thinks we got better. I don’t know.

Since I have my new laptop, I have to reinstall everything. DAZ Studio is taking longer than everything else. And I have no idea why a rolling pin requires 250 megabytes or hair requires half a gigabyte.

I think the last time I got a laptop was 2016. So blasting ten years into the future has created all kinds of new possibilities. I was even able to render ChevyBabe hair. Like, I fully expect to be able to run Grand Theft Auto 6 but I wasn’t sure about ChevyBabe hair.

I do like the promo pictures of that Renvana character. Actually I’m starting to think I like Genesis 9 in general. But I’m not going to buy everything again for a new version.

If that new handler has something to say on Monday, he is going to learn the meaning of snippy.

@NylonGirl Sorry about your new handler. I wonder if he's one of those who feels the need to give bad reviews so that he has something to manage. My corporate job had one like that... If Lawful Stupid was a D&D alignment, she would've been its poster child.

Non-complaint:  Tidied up my pantry shelves and found a half full box of "Grape Nuts" cereal.  I eat them with a smidge of hot water and some honey.  No milk required.  Makes a kind of instant, hot, semi-mushy, oatmealish, sweet simple breakfast. Yay!yes  I do have a half dozen eggs left.  So, I could make another batch of salmon patties with two of them.  And I could have ham and eggs with another two before Thursday's uptown grocery run.  My run to the local grocery yesterday revealed that they have pumpkins so I think I'll make a special trip and toddle up there tomorrow to get one.  They're too big & heavy to carry, even in bags.  So, I think I'll dig out my collapsible wagon for the first time and bring it home that way.  Picture it, fall in upstate NY, red & yellow leaves on the trees & ground, wrinkled old man in jeans & leather jacket, wearing a baseball cap, toddling & dragging a wagon with a big pumpkin down the sidewalk.  Kinda reminds me of when I was five or six years old and won a big turkey in a Thanksgiving raffle from a ticket my father handed to me.  He said "you won it, you take it home".  Home was two blocks away down a hill, and I was determined to get it there.  Dragged the frozen turkey through the snow (didn't even have a wagon), all the way.  Even got it up the three steps to the porch.

My sympathies as well, @NylonGirl. Working in customer service, I deal with many troublesome folks, both customers & co-irkers*. Although mine are more likely to be Chaotic Stupid.

@SilverGirl we should start our own list here of Alignments D&D Forgot. Also I love the "not qualified to lead lemmings off a cliff" snark. It's my new favorite.

*Got this one from a comment on the Ask A Manager advice blog. It covers every work issue up to & including "My report is threatening to use black magic on the rest of my team."

Later this morning we are going to go help Son pack & clean out his apartment. He & his girlfriend have rented a house together.

Torquinox Thank you. Yes she is lovely.

SilverGirl I hope Little Dude is able to rest and recover and you get a break on sleep. Maybe his youth will help?

NylonGirl Too many times I have run into a supervisor with a 'God' complex or who has 'issues' with who/what I am or others I work with. One time, it took myself and three of my fellow staff sergeants taking a master sergeant into the warehouse and explain to him that his bigotry was not acceptable and we would elevate our documentation to command. And then there is the case of someone promoted who is just not qualified for the position and has no clue how to lead.

LeatherGryphon Grape Nuts sprinkled in some yogurt, along with some dried fruit like cranberries and blueberries, makes a great breakfast for my diet to lose weight. Just use a fingertip grab of each so you don't go over a 1/4 cup measurement.

Sill weak, exhausted, and have to go Buckley for prescriptions if they are ready today. If not, tomorrow after medical appointment. Or Wednesday after that appointment. And Thursday it will be too late for one, but I have dental work that day. I just want to crawl into bed and sleep.

@memcneil70  Hmmm..., yogurt & berries on GrapeNuts, sounds good.yes  Although, I don't like the crunch in GrapeNuts, so the hot water will probably stay.  Yay for semi-mush.smiley  I do keep raisins handy.enlightened

And as I think again about the scene of me dragging a wagon loaded with a big pumpkin down an autumn street I can't help thinking of an adult version of a Charlie Brown holiday cartoon.indecision

Can we say Monday?  I received 1 hour of sleep between Sunday and Monday.  After getting cleaned up Monday morning, I laid on the bed for 30 minutes feeling like I was going to pass out.  I made it to my 10 AM appointment at CVS pharmacy to receive my second shingles shot (turned 50 in June) and the covid vaccine.  Next stops the bank, the post office to mail our voter ballots, and the grocery store for Mom to purchase a lottery ticket.  Slept from 2 PM to 6 PM.  I woke from my nap with a sore arm, headache, body aches and pains.  It's 9 PM on Monday now and I'm working on coming down with a fever.

cjfea Congratulations on those Shingles shots! And of course Covid. I had Shingles in 2014 and had never heard of the then vaccine and it wasn't even on my company's coverage. It hurt, the itch was like fire ants had taken residence on my lower back. I was told by my doctor to stay at home. I was dangerous to any pregnant woman's fetus and to anyone who had never had chicken pox. I did it and also lost two weeks of pay. Thankfully I had savings. I got the new Shingles vaccine series a few years ago thankfully. It is possible to get again.

I had spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out if I was Lawful Good or Chaotic Good. As far as I can self-assess, I don't think I am Neutral or Evil. I think I had been a type who would try to follow all the rules. But the more I learned, the more I started to think the people who make the rules are not necessarily good. And that makes it difficult to be both Lawful and Good. So I guess I lean toward Chaotic Good…

That may be a point of conflict between me and this new Handler guy. Because some of the things we do can have an effect on people’s lives, and sometimes the people, who make the rules in an Evil Empire, don’t necessarily care about people. There will be times when he will say “this is what the direction is” and I will say “yes but this is stupid”. And yes there are times when the leadership seems to lean toward… just… Chaotic Stupid.

Complaint:  I knew it was too good to last.  Dry weather has returned and so have my nose bleeds.  (*sigh*)sad  Out of the blue, just sitting watching TV.  But at least they don't seem to be the gushing, everlasting type. (*yay?*)indecision

Complaint:  I have a chirper.  Smoke alarm has exhausted it's battery 2 months early.angry  And of course there are no proper batteries in my battery box.frown

  • NylonGirlNylonGirl Posts: 2,435
I just don't understand smoke alarms. I don't know if the flashing red light is supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing. It never chirps ever so I don't know if that means there's no problem or if that means it's dead. The only way I would ever know if it works is if I were to fill the house with smoke and see what happens. I'm not going to do that on purpose.

The flashing red light is a periodic sniff and/or internal self test.  If all is good, that's all it does.  No noise is good noise.yes  A chirp a minute or two or three apart, is notice that your battery needs replacement, which should be done once a year regardless (pick a memorable day).enlightened  HOWEVER, there are smoke or carbon monoxide detectors out there that claim to last 10 years.  and those type once they expire should be replaced completely (battery not replaceable).  But if your alarm goes off for real, you'll know it if you're not deaf, but probably will be if you stay in its vicinity too long.surprise  Just fry up some sesame oil on high for a few minutes, you'll learn what your alarm thinks of it.  Or, alternatively, put a piece of frozen pizza into the microwave and cook it for 6 minutes on high instead of 1/10th power.  (Experience!)no

Non-complaint:  I finally figured out, again, how to open my smoke alarm and wiggle the overly tight battery out.  Then I searched my computer repair toolkit boxes and found an unopened and still viable 9v battery.  Yay!  (Tested it with my handy-dandy battery tester.)  Battery replaced, now all I have to do is get it back onto the wall.  I noticed on my alarm that I had written "Battery log:  6/5/22"surprise  So, either I'd forgotten to update the log last time I changed it, or it lasted nearly 4 and a half years.  I think the former, several times.blush  NOTE:  In my defense, the battery is replaceable without removing the whole alarm from its mount on the wall, but the battery log is not visible unless you do.indecision

CAUTION:  Old geezers like me have trouble hearing high frequencies.  These days, the chirp is just on the edge of my hearing.  So, when I do hear it, I have trouble determining which detector it is coming from (smoke or carbon monoxide), despite living in a small apartment.  I have the same problem with modern digital thermometers that chirp when their reading is ready.frown

Final Note:  In lieu of filling your house with sesame oil smoke, you could just push the "Self Test" button on the alarm for a couple of seconds, the noise will convince you that that yes indeedy, it's still alive.

All smoke alarms should have a test button.

My usual Halloween plan is to turn the lights off and pretend I’m not there. Because in the past, when I bought candy to give to children, none of them came. Then when I didn’t have candy, they came. So now I just pretend I’m not there.

...the vision I get from the description is a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post cover.

    ____________________

Ah, smoke alarms, those little necessary evils,

In the 9 + years I've lived in this apartment, I never once set off the smoke alarm (even when cooking my bronzed Cajon on a griddle on the stovetop).....

...well until a couple months ago when I burnt some toast as I was distracted by another task.

Now I live in a multi-unit/floor building which has a central master alarm system that also alerts the nearby fire station.  When something minor (like burning toast or MW popcorn) occurs, it requires a bit more forethought as to how to react.  The first inclination for most folks in such a situation is to immediately open the main apartment door.  Bad idea as in most apartments here, the kitchens are right by the main entrance to the unit and even if a bit of the smoke drifts out the it sets off the hallway sensors (which are rather sensitive). That in turn triggers the building's central alarm system, requiring everyone to evacuate and, as I mentioned, sends a signal to the fire department.

So when I had this happen the other month, I dumped the burnt toast in the sink, turned the stove hood fans on high, then the ceiling fan in the main room (which helped draw any smoke away from the alarm unit on the ceiling), and turned my dual window fans on to exhaust mode.  All the while the entry door remained closed.

Within a couple minutes the apartment's alarm ceased and what smoke was present had quickly dissipated. The building's central alarm didn't activate, the fire department wasn't called, and the other tenants remained undisturbed.

Ads for devices like phones and computers have apparently given up on advertising the device itself, and now only focus on the AI built into the device. Not a fan.

Tangentially related, I was just pricing out a new computer, and it was looking like I could put together a pretty powerful system for not too much money....until I started looking at RAM.

Is it getting to the point where you need to take out a 5 year or 20 year loan like for your car or home to buy RAM?
