Non-complaint:  Yay, I finally have an eye appointment.smiley  My primary physician has been nagging me about getting another eye checkup (for glaucoma and other aging issues).  A couple months ago (well at least a month) I got an email thing from my eye doctor that said "It's that time again".  Yeah, yeah, OK, so I filled out the request for an appointment, sent it, and waited for a call back or email, or something, but nope... nada, nunca, nothing.  So, a few days ago I called directly and set up an appointment.  Sooner than I wanted but, um, OK.  Next Wednesday.  I'll be in a new pay period so budget has been reset and I'm gonna splurge on some minor excitement.devil  The eye doctor is near the local mall on the far side of the city.  I'll take the one and only bus from home and get to the eye doctor for the 9:15 appointment.  Afterwards I'll get myself the final mile by bus or Uber to the mall area and have breakfast at Wendy's, toddle across the street to the mall and shop in J.C. Penney for new jeans, toddle to Olive Garden on the corner of the mall parking lot for lunch, Uber back to the center of the city for a blood test at the medical center, toddle across the street to Tim Horton's to get a couple of donuts and muffins to take home, and finally Uber home.  A huge mini-adventure!  Wheee...yes  Weather, so far, looks to be perfect, partly cloudy, in the low 70s.

Complaint:  I'm still learning the limits of my new medical insurance situation, my old insurance (a "Medicare Advantage" plan) covered some eye services, but my new plan is a "Medicare Supplement" (aka: MediGap) plan "with high deductable".  This type of plan pays for whatever basic Medicare doesn't, but doesn't pay a cent until after exhausting a high deductable (about $3000).  Which means that since basic Medicare doesn't cover eye problems, I'll see the entire bill from the eye doctor.surprise   It remains to be seen just how big my eye exam bill is going to be.  This first year on a MediGap plan has been an eye opener.frown

My Blue Cross is like medigap but no high deductible. Medicare pays some orf the eye exam. So my final bill is only about $100

Birth Certificate validity:  I'm 77 for a few more months.  When I'd gone off to college my mother gave me my birth certificate.  An old folded paper.  I kept it with me all my life.  Used it as proof of identity during the '80s when I got my first passport.  I've kept my passport active ever since.  When I returned here to NY State I applied for a NY driver's license.  They wanted proof of ID, I gave them my birth certificate, now folded, more yellowed, more frayed, but still the same indication that I had been born.  "No good", they said.  Apparently it was a "Birth Registration", not a "Birth Certificate".frown  Ummm..., OK?  So, I came back a few days later and handed them my passport, which they gladly accepted.  I wanted to tell them the story, in four part harmony, of how the passport had been validated by that same Birth Registration that they'd rejected, but figured officer Opie wouldn't grasp the significance.  So, after getting my license I just picked up the garbage and went back to Alice's for another Thanksgiving Dinner that couldn't be beat.wink

Did you get everything you wanted?  (excepting Alice) wink

    That's a good one! yes

Wondered if anyone got it.  Had that album when it came out.  Saw the movie, too.

    That's pretty impressive.

Mine are more of the type where the minute my back is turned, one cat throws the paper towels on the floor and then the kittens shred it. This may have just happened.

Actually I kind of like yours (with corrected spelling);. I also like LeaherGrypon's suggestion of "The I Just Feel Like Complaining, Complaint Thread".  Does anybody have any other suggestions?

"Drink your tea and like it complaint thread" would be a companion to the last title, but I do like the weather title. I vote we keep what we've got.

@memcneil70 - sorry for the kitty barf issues, for both kitty and you. :(

complaint: On the subject of weather, it's raining cats and dogs out there, and of course the delivery driver left Little Dude's monthly Amazon shipment of crackers and cookies (and a few other sundries) SMACK IN THE RAIN instead of under the overhang by the garage, which is clearly dry, and also where the delivery instructions said to leave it. Because why on earth would you put the cardboard packages where they won't get soggy? Meantime, Little Dude took one look out the window and had a very strong, unhappy opinion about what the sky was doing. Hopefully it'll stop in time for us to go for a walk. It'll be insane-o humid, but thankfully the mosquito population is 15x lower than normal this year (owing it it being a very dry spring two years in a row), so we could get away with it without getting eaten alive.

non-complaint: At least this storm system is supposed to have taken the 89F high temps with it.

Re: cats and doors - my beloved old grey cat figured out how to open doorknobs. Not the lever kind... actual round knobs. If you wanted him out of a room, you had to lock him out. And then he'd howl mournfully until you regretted the choice.

...whew, finally caught u since page 98 of the old thread.

RL issues and as well as being  "concerned citizen" has taken over much of my waking days lately.  So I fell significantly behind here on the forums.

    Complaint:

As to proving one's Identity I haven't had a valid ID card on since the beginning of the pandemic. Mine expired just before everything shut down for nearly a year.  By the time thing started getting back to a semblance of "normal£ one needed an appointment (it used to be a "walk in" affair) with a waiting list of over a month (a snail moves at almost supersonic speed comrade to bureaucracy).

Then there is the cost, as a non-driver ID here in Oregon is expensive :47USD. and that doesn't include the Real ID stamp (a number if other states offer it for free) , For that you have to pomy up another 30 USD. (for a total of 77 USD).  If you just get the basic ID and later have a need for the real ID  certification, you also have to pay an additional 40 USD for a replacement card bringing the total cost to 117 USD, more than a drivers licence in some states (my old home state of Wisconsin charges 32.50 USD for a DL and that includes the Real ID stamp, a on  driver's ID there is 29$ and also qualities as Real ID).

A passport card even costs less, initially 65 USD and only 30 USD to renew and it automatically qualifies as "Real ID". (to renew an Oregon ID with Real ID costs 71 USD).. A passport card is also valid for a decade (2 years longer than our state ID) and allows travel to Mexico Canada and the Caribbean   The only rub, you need a valid state ID or DL to apply.

So I have been living in "Stealth Mode".

Fortunately being 72  I don't get carded going into a pub or beer/wine at the grocery, while the only cheques I write are for rent which I put in the office's rent drop. All other transactions are either cash or plastic.

Complaint:  Listless electrons here:  I woke up this morning bright and late.  Didn't get up until 10 minutes to 8:00.  By time I got downstairs, done my bathroom ablutions, and then turned on the TV and put a cup of water into the microwave, the electrons in the house lost their motivation and went on strike, slowly at first but then spasmed for a few moments, then just laid down and died.frown  A few moments later I hear vehicles stopping on the street in front of the house.  Put on my flip-flops and toddled out to the end of the driveway and looked up the street.  Somebody was stopping traffic and getting them to turn around.  Neighbor guy in other side of the house came out and went out to the street to talk to the unofficial traffic director to find out what the story was.  Apparently on the big curve that leads out of town, just behind the curve on the downhill side, a power pole had fallen.  Don't know if it was a collision or whether the side of the hill collapsed and had taken the power pole with it.  Regardless, power was out from about 7:55 to 10:15.

Non-complaint:  Wheee... an in-house mini-adventure.yes  Power seems to be on and stable now.  Now to run through the house and reset the unbacked up clocks, close the windows, plug in the A/C again, and power on the UPSs in the computer lab.  Goin' back to normal.smiley

It's the week of Juneteenth and the workplace systems are scheduled to be down for seven days. I suspect they'll actually be back up later today but nobody will bother to tell us until the 19th.

Semi Complaint : was finally able to change my CPAP  mask to a nasal cushion ,gave me a bit of a fit because all the parts weren't sent and missing pieces had to be ordered ,then no instructions were included so after a Google search I now can use the Nasal cushion and I have to say so far what a difference !! so much lighter and it doesn't make my claustraphobia kick off ,major plus. May have to look into a chin strap to keep from breathing through my mouth but that's not a big deal ..Now waiting on a grocery delivery ,I hope they read the notes ......

I used the nasal until I developed complex sleep apnea with severe central apnea. I had to go to the full mask so the machine knew when I stopped breathing and could push air into me artificially; once I started breathing normally again, it continued its normal operation.

Hmmm I'll keep that in mind ......

Yes, please do. It's not fun going to bed every night hoping that I don't accidentally knock my mask off and therefore not wake up at all again. My wife has to stay up through the night to watch me to make sure it doesn't fall off or I don't put it back on if I get up to use the restroom. We also have cameras throughout the house to make sure I don't fall asleep anywhere. She always has the cameras open on her phone, and if she notices I'm dozing or getting tired, she'll talk through the camera for me to come up to bed and put my mask on. Most the people who pass away due to "complications due to sleep apnea" are the ones who have central sleep apnea. Basically it's when there is miscommunication between your brain and lungs. Basically, the brain doesn't tell your body to breath. With me it happens 126 times an hour, and on top of that I also have 86 episodes of obstructive apnea. This is all due to other medical issues I have and the long-term use of some meds. The apnea has also caused some other health issues now so just be careful with your treatment and listen to the Dr. If you feel at any point the machine isn't working properly, be sure to let them know about it.

Don't make them with vegetable suet either. The texture is awful. I once came over all silly and tried to make a vegetarian stew & dumplings (Quorn instead of meat, veggie suet for the dumplings, veggie stock cubes etc.) Never again. It made resisting such urges in the future so much easier. Regards, Richard.

    ...sort of  complaint:

Speaking about "power outages" had a big sare last night as the displays on my system suddenly went dark the case lights were out. and when I looked inside, the reset  buttons on the MB were dark  As I was just on the Net and the system was not doing any "strenuous lifting" (like a big render job which could have triggered the CPU to shut down due to overheating)

The first thought I had was the power supply.  However I never heard any sound like a *pop*, or saw any flashes, or smelled fried electronics.  I checked the unit itself and didn't feel hot, turned it off and back on but nothing.  I finally pulled the entire tower out to find that the power cord connection at the PSU had somehow come loose (not sure how).  I pushed it back in, turned the PSU back on and saw saw the reset lights on the MB were on again, restarted the computer and to my relief everything was back to normal again.

    Crisis averted.got now.

I am so broke these days, had it been a failure of the PSU (which is relatively new) or another component (like my ancient MB,) my "Dazzing days" would be over for a long time until  I could scrape up the funds.needed.  In the case of the MB I would likely, have to do the upgrade I originally planned as the MB is an old X58 model with DDR2 memory slots and PCIe 2.0 expansion slots (14 years old and way obsolete) which would also mean having to get a new CPU (and cooler) as well as memory (the latter which is stupid expensive these days - even for DDR4 which is last generation tech),

The old DDR4 upgrade I designed (64 GB) is just shy of 1,500 USD (more than half the cost of it is the memory and new boot drive). It used to be just over 800 USD (including the WIn 11 DVD).

Yeah, feel like I am living on more than borroewd time.

Complaint:  Cheap headphone pads:  Don't you just hate it when your headphone ear pads disintegrate and leave little crumbs of faux leather in your ear, in your hair, on your clothes and little black spots on the chairpad?angry  That, and the cheap faux leather covering on your desk chair that quickly begins to look like a dog with uncontrolled, advanced mange.  And I pity the people with faux leather couches.  Who came up with this idea?

Non-complaint:  I solved part of the problem by ignoring the mange on my black desk chair, that now looks like a gray & black dalmation.sad  I'm not going to spend another $200 for a chair that won't look nice for more than a year.cheeky  I solved the couch problem by not having a couch.enlightened And I solved the headphone problem (mostly) by buying light, comfortable, wireless, quality headphones with replaceable earpads (Sennheiser RS-175).  Because of my hearing issues, I wear headphones a lot while in the house listening to radio or TV.  But then I wanted a pair of headphones with a built in microphone (Why, I don't know.indecision  Just call it "fad following")  but didn't want to shell out for another Sennheiser($$$) so I just got something cool looking and cheap from Amazon.  It's tight, it's heavy, it's visibly cheap.  And now whenever I use it, I have to clean my ears again, but of course, the earpads are not even removable, much less replaceable.frown  Quality counts.enlightened To that end, I keep my eyes open for a household sale with a proper, real leather, recliner or office chair that won't cost me a thousand dollars.surprise

Buy a leather whole skin, a hammer, some tacks and a pot of glue. Then, after a year of messing about with the chair, you and the room will be so glued up, you'll be beyond caring about shed bits of faux leather. Well, it's one way of dealing with the problem. I didn't say it was a good way, but it's one way. Regards, Richard.
