Non-complaint: During today's mini-adventure I noticed that the principal 2-lane road through this town toward the city had been newly blacktopped. Nice clean blackness with just yellow dots down the middle in preparation for proper painting of the centerline(s). On the way back I noticed that they were still finishing the shoulders along the southside of the road. Looks like the road is now a bit wider than it used to be. Cool!
Non-complaint: Grocery shopping today resulted in three big bags-o-stuff. No cherries though. I guess the season is over. But I did get three kiwis (Mmmm... fuzzy & green), also bananas and apples, and although I like a good watermelon, I couldn't see lugging one (or even half of one) home in an Uber, so I just bought a good sized plastic container with pre-chopped chunks each about an inch cube. (Mmm... sweet watermelon.) Seasonal craving sated, without the mess. Grocery is selling pumpkins again already. I could have gotten two beautiful big ones for $5, but again lugging them home in an Uber was not in my schedule.
Complaint: I didn't buy any snacks, unless you consider pickles a snack, I don't. They're just part of my late night ritual. (Mmm... a Vlasic kosher dill pickle spear before bed.)Gettin' old sucks: No chips, no puddings, no cookies, no chocolate. Doctor is threatening me with insulin. However, my weight has continued to drift downward. Back under 200 again.
I have heard/read psychologists say our dreams are where we work out things in our subconscious and why it is so critical to experience REM sleep. Possibly you are using familiar people from your life to help you do this?
Well, being unable to work things out without REM sleep might explain why nobody in the world can work anything out.
Non-complaint: More roadwork: Wheee... The State road crew came through town again today. This time the big blacktopping machine was working the northside shoulder of the road. I don't think I can stand all this excitement. Smooth, jet black roadway now all the way from this town, westward into the city and through to the far side, franchise row, mall area, and perhaps beyond to the terminus at Westfield on Lake Erie.
Complaint: Unfortunately, there's a spot of about a mile within the early part of the city that will always fall apart within a year. Poor substrate, never properly fixed. Buses and Ubers avoid it when it gets bad. Ever since I was a kid (i.e. the last 70 years) that section of road is just covered over then falls apart after the first winter, with major cracks & potholes. That whole section needs to be completely dug out, proper drainage put in, and a proper substrate built through that area. But I'll never see it happen.
A Few Hours Later
Wheee... More excitement. The blacktopping machine and its attendant truck just came back through, backing up all the way, picking up the traffic cones. They must be good drivers to drive that massive machine backwards several miles, close enough to the line of cones for the guy on the back to grab them as they go by. Cool!
I forgot to bring sauce for the nuggets I brought to the program.
I need to set up my desktop again. I want to start rendering again. I just got Kiri 9. I want to play with Genesis 9 again.
The question is not whether the nuggets have sauce. The question is whether the nuggets exist.
So, do you think is it more noble to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of unsauced nuggets? Out out small nugget. Sauce be damned. 'Tis a loss full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. -- Shakespeare rolling over in his grave --
Complaint: All the roadwork has delayed delivery of my Amazon package today until tomorrow. My own version of missing sauce.
I read somewhere that everytime you see a person in your dreams that it's a someone you have seen in real life, even if only in passing, since the human mind cannot make up faces. I've always wondered how much truth there is to that; if any.

Well, you're not supposed to be able to read things in dreams, either, and I do that all the time.
Considering the thousands upon thousands of people we see, I'd think this would be a really hard theory to prove or disprove.
I believe that I have read things in dreams too. Maybe not the fine print, but at least the headlines. Also, I've heard it said that we don't dream in color, but just think we do. Hmmm..., that sounds kinda' sus to me! And "are dreams literally images?", philosophy I hear thee knocking! Heck, perception itself is a big mystery (i.e. Is my red the same as your red?). So, dreams are at another level of abstraction. (*eyeroll*)
Non-complaint: Curious about the road work around the main state road through here (Route 394), I turned to my friend GoogleAI (who has informed me that "Gemini" is the preferred word) and asked about the current work going on. I was surprised to be informed that after decades and decades and decades of complaints by the locals of Chautauqua county, the State of NY is finally (supposedly) fixing the 1 mile stretch between Falconer and Jamestown that I mentioned earlier. Previous repaving this spring was just a temporary measure to get traffic back onto the road (buses, commuters and Ubers were bypassing it through unhappy neighborhoods) so that they can tear it out this fall, dig out the foundation and properly repair it. Yay! I may live to see it done if not proven to survive 10 winters. And the repaving of that road all the way through the county, from Westfield at Lake Erie on the west, down the west side of Lake Chautauqua, through Jamestown, Falconer, and Kennedy to just before Randolph in the next county (Cattaraugus) is part of a massively expensive repair of a road that used to be the main artery (used to be Route 17) through this county, but was left in the dust by the building of Interstate I-86 about 50 years ago. And speaking of I-86, it bypasses the city of Jamestown to the north and jumps a mile and half across Lake Chautauqua on a bridge that is now about 45 years old and its repair is part of the expense. Chautauqua Lake is mucho deep so working on the bridge in the center requires big barges with cranes. Repairing the bridge has been going on for about 2 years of lane shifting and the whole bridge project was slated to take 4 years because of several ancillary bridges and on/off ramps in the lake area complex along I-86 which carries a lot of traffic across the Southern Tier of NY State From NYC, Boston and Binghamton through to Erie, PA and Cleveland, Ohio and can't be closed completely because there is no other viable way to handle all that traffic without routing the big trucks up toward Rochester to Buffalo and then down to Erie, a 100 mile detour. All this I learned with my Gemini conversation. Cool!
I read somewhere that everytime you see a person in your dreams that it's a someone you have seen in real life, even if only in passing, since the human mind cannot make up faces. I've always wondered how much truth there is to that; if any.

Not necessarily, but it set me wondering if the brain sees 3D faces as 'real'.

I sort of half-read in dreams. Signs, book covers, newspaper headlines are usually readable, but nothing like a page in a book.
So if dreaming includes images of those we have seen before, I will add another bit of weirdness into this discussion.
My mother, her mother's mother and I all had/have the ability to see or feel things in our waking or sleeping moments that had not happened yet, of people not yet known or who were well known and close to us. Best description is Second Sight.
One day when I was stationed in Athens, Greece I was walking back from lunch to work and I 'saw' a room with people whom I didn't know and a place I had never been. Maybe a year later, I was stationed at Edwards AFB, CA and I happened to look up from my desk, and that scene and those people were there. We had just rearranged our partitions to a new pattern.
A number of years later, I started to have a recurring vision of a plane loosing control at an air show and pinwheeling into the crowd. This was just before my base in England had our open house and air show and I was a nervous wreck. Nothing happened. But, two weeks later, I am watching CNN on cable and that scene was on breaking news from Ramstein AB, Germany where I had been stationed in the early 1970s, and a couple I had worked with at Edwards were now stationed.
My mother knew when her grandmother died in the middle of the night. She had a vision of her walking around her cabin, dressed in her good dress, and a raven flying with her. Later that day, her mother got the news. Her grandmother was a Cherokee.
So if dreaming includes images of those we have seen before, I will add another bit of weirdness into this discussion.

Very interesting, I live near where some of the Cherokee made their home in their Federal Land Trust (Qualla Boundary) where they have their own government and laws, much like a reservation. So I have an interest that made me look into Cherokee culture (also I had a great-great-grandmother on my mother's side who was Cherokee - which makes me mostly Irish ) I found that a raven or crow is not a sign of death (that would be an owl), but a guardian, truth-teller, and messenger of major spiritual transitions. So a spiritual companion to guide and protect her as she passed on to the next plane. My take anyway.

So, do dreams predict, witness or cause the situation? The perception of time is a funny thing.
I have no clue. I saw a train wreck once. A bad one. A week later there was one in India that matched what I saw. I wish there was a way to know how to figure how where it is going to happen, or when. I have never been to India and no link to that particular event.
One time I freaked out watching Star Trek and couldn't get calmed down. (I didn't see anything, just knew something was very wrong.) At that moment, my dad was with a CBS newscrew about to land in Anchorage Alaska just as another major earthquake hit right at the airport, just as the plane's wheels touched down. The pilot was able to lift off and land safely later. (I don't remember if it was somewhere else or if they just flew around until it was safe.)
Again, I felt weird and worried one time when I was stationed in Oklahoma. I called home and asked my mom if everything was okay. She said my brother had been working as a barback and his lung collapsed and was taken to the emergency room. He had been working with pneumonia.
Well, I can confirm from first-hand experience, that it's perfectly possible for the human mind to make up faces they have never seen. I can even prove it to you so easily, it's laughable. Imagine a face, any face, and now re-imagine that face with an alteration, and there you go, proven!
The appearance of my Skyborn character is inspired by a girl that I saw while on holiday over thirty years ago now. I remember her as if it were yesterday. Yet if I try to concentate on a specific feature like eyes or mouth, it's a bit like looking at an image on your computer screen, where everything looks fine overall. but the moment you try to zoom in on a specific feature, that part of the image seems to disintegrate, like some sadistic zoom function that was purpose-designed to drive you stark raving mad. To get around it, I tried variation after variation until eventually, there she is. It took me a few years of random attempts, just to get the eyes right, and in the end it was a simple matter of making sure that the eye openings were wider than her iris. I eventually realised that unless I can see white around her entire iris, then it's not her.
So, with the eyes perfected, I finally got to the brows (which aren't too far off already), then the head shape, and now I'm working on anatomy refinements.
So personally, I reckon "Dreams" and what they call "Photographic Memory" are somehow linked, since in both cases, I reckon that something substantial needs to have happened in order for you to mentally photograph, or dream about something or someone. In my case, the real girl looked -right- at me for a good two seconds I would say, which might not sound like much, but two seconds is a -long- time in a situation like that, and I think it was as much about that as how she looked, that permanently seared her into my memory!

I've had similar oddness, though I'm fortunate that for the most part mine are very mundane, more like the one you described of looking up and that group of people was there. After a while I started writing stuff like that down in detail so I'd have it to refer back to later. Some haven't happened yet (or might never), but quite a few have.
One was while I was staying with my parents after Little Dude's birth, I woke up really disoriented from a dream that I was in my living room, but a lot of the stuff was gone, and some of the furniture was missing or moved. I had the disctinct sense that it was urgent that I leave very soon and time was running out. A number of months later on the day I had divorce papers served, while the ex- was at work I had some friends & family over, and we boxed up a lot of my stuff and either brought it with (important/irreplacable), or put it in the second bedroom and installed a locking door knob to which only I had the key (which ended up not being as useful as I intended because he kicked the door down... never let it be said he took "no" for an answer on anything). A lot of his stuff went in boxes too that we put in the garage for him to take with him. At the end of the day I'd been dealing with stuff in a different part of the house, walked into the living room.... and it looked just as it had in my dream.
I had a disturbing dream about Princess Diana's death on 30th August 1997. My partner at the time said I was being daft. Turned out to be a premonition, Diana was dead less than 24 hours later. That freaked me out a lot.

Please don't get into religious discussions.
So, no "...isms". That takes care of religion and politics. OK, how about dreams and philosophy?
Dreams are OK. Philosophy perhaps, as long as it doesn't turn into politics or religion.
