I just had a whole ordeal in which my laptop's touchpad stopped working. After restarting the computer twice, and uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver, I realized none of that was the problem. Apparently, there is a keyboard shortcut that disables the touchpad. Holding Control + F9 turned it back on. I guess I won't ask why there is a keyboard shortcut that makes the touchpad stop working. Maybe that would be good for a person who uses an external mouse instead of the touchpad. But I do wonder why nothing on the laptop indicates the touchpad has been disabled. I also wonder why uninstalling and reinstalling the driver doesn't return it to a default setting of "working".
Seems a rather useless setting as every laptop I've used, the touchpad stops working when you start using the mouse .

Useful for people who are inclined to catch the touch pad while typing, though that doesn't explain the lack of indicator.
Maybe I just didn't understand all the settings for keyboard/touchpad, but I liked to use a cordless mouse, and if you didn't turn off the touchpad, windows would not load properly. There may have been other ways around the problem, but that worked for me on my last two laptops.
And, I found the touchpad unusable for many apps that needed an extra degree of precision of motion..
I found Dawn SE in my smart content and then called it a night.

complaint: I finally had to slap a "No soliciting, politics, religion, etc" note on my door. FIVE incidents in two days. And some of them really obnoxious. Ding-dong! DingdongdingdongDINGdong knock-knock-knock-knock-knock-knock!
Dude, no. Just no. Opening the door to strangers isn't the best idea in the BEST of times, and these ain't that.
Also, you woke me up after I FINALLY got to sleep, so even if I DID open the door, you wouldn't like what you get.
And I know it's just going to get worse as we get closer to election day.
non-complaint: My dad drove Teen Kiddo out where the city lights aren't so bright for some stargazing, stopping to pick up snacks for both of them on the way so they could have a night-picnic. They were out for hours, and Kiddo was so so happy when they got home a little short of 4 AM. I'm so glad for both of them that they can nerd out with science stuff together.

COMPLAINT: Daz decided to close a PA store well in advance of the PA's intended date just when I'd decided to buy up their items. Hacked off with that, shady as smeg! This sort of attitude towards PAs will only drive customers away. I may have to start spending elsewhere and Daz will lose over $10k/year income.
My main non-complaint is that my lovely kitty Toby is healing well from his smashed leg and inserted plate (with 6 screws), but it does lead to a complaint:

Non-Complaint: I have been buying tons of tutorials over the years, recently many of Dreamlights which were in Quick Grab and Outlet and others in his regular store, and I finally made a push to sit down and do them. Yes some of them are for 3Delight, but I figure concepts for lighting, composition, and other items he mentions on the fly don't change with Iray. I have also upgraded many of my older sets to Iray and .duf and use them for my renders. I am currently wrapping up his Film Noir 3D Style and the other day I found myself smiling as I took the day to just work on my render before I finished his tutorial. I was enjoying myself as I fought with my system flipping me all over the place. But I didn't crash D|S with two G9 and one G8.1 and over 23m vertices on my MacMiniM4. (Lighting and composition has been my biggest problem in D|S.)
Help Requested: While I have been picking up pointers on Photoshop, I have GIMP on my computer and what I really need is a tutorial for absolute beginners on learning the BASICs of the program. I never seem to figure that stuff out. Every tut seems to think you have some understanding of the basics. I am immediately lost from the get go. (It doesn't help that GIMP updates don't match older versions on old tutorials.) Any suggestions?
My other joy is @joanna and her books. I followed one of her links and bought three of her books and just opened the third book of the series. Read the second to the point my eyes went squirrely yesterday. Need to take more breaks. But while I have many ebooks and paper books, I needed something that was not doom and gloom. This is my way of coping.
Life: I got my Bi-planer X-Rays last night. My spine has collapsed at even worse than I had thought since 2023's last X-ray. Explains why my pain level has ramped up so much. And why I lost 2 inches in height in the past year.

It is great how he's healing, and in reality he's an incredibly sweet cat who's been much more tolerant of his restrictions than we have any right to hope for, letalone expect. He takes time to go to sleep on each of our laps every day, but he's only just over a year old and he wants to be out and bouncing like he did befor being hit by the car. We simply can't blame him. The biggest thing slowing him down is the weather - it has been horrifically hot for a couple of months, and being a long hair Maine Coon, he has suffered somewhat from the heat.
