If you want to uninstall, why don't you use the sorter in the upper right of the Daz3D Install Manager? You can select what has been installed and view it through the sorter where it shows you the lastest install dates and there should be a nice uninstall button that should uninstall automatically or at the very least show you where the stuff is so you can do it yourself...

Any improvement for the animation tools? Or it still got the "double click scrub" timeline?

The improvement is that AniMate 2 is no more available for DS6. LOL joking sorry I couldn't resist cheeky.

I’ve gone ahead and installed it now, and I’ve also adjusted the directories. However, there is still something located in `C:\dokuemte` that I don't want there—and don't recognize. As described in the forum, I was able to copy over the `user_styles` and `user_layouts` files and largely restore my screen layout. So far, no serious issues have arisen, aside from the fact that the scripts, bookmarks, and similar items are no longer present in DS6. Although all the plugins appear "green" in the list, none of them are actually present or functional. The same applies to the toolbar at the top. Furthermore—despite having imported the saved layouts—one still has to manually set the screen background to white. In principle, using the software for actual work is not yet advisable.
But will there be content that only works in DS6? Then i would need a new content-folder

Actually, can I just check, as it seems people are using this seriously now?

The beta has been my primary Daz install for a four or five weeks or so. Now, I have a 4090, not a 50xx series GPU. So, I haven't been seeing all the issues with those cards. Sometimes the viewport goes black for a few seconds. This is no wose than 4.24 just deciding to be unresponsive for a few seconds when you reparent something or similar slowness. I use 4.24 when I need a PA plugin for something special. I also use it for parallel work. I might be running a test render in 6 and building a new figure in 4 simultaneously, for example.

Actually, can I just check, as it seems people are using this seriously now? Is the expectation that this is usable on a 5090 with the viewport set to iRay? I mean that when you move things likke lights in the viewport, or move a figure to see how it affects shadows, you don't have to wait a few seconds. Victoria is telling me it doesn't work and suggesting the sort of optimisations I used to make on my 1060. I don't believe AI as far as I can throw i usually, but who knows...?

So should I be getting a usable viewport? Somthing that I can see update quickly when I make changes? I just want to understand the expectation.

    Thanks.

From my own personal experience: I do my setting up in Textured View and use Iray Viewport to do a quick check. The viewport is laggy when moving stuff around in Iray Viewport, but that has been the case in 4.x as well. There is a Windows update next week, it may improve things if some reports from DS 6 users are to go by.

Thanks. Maybe it's just me, but for me, texture shading is fine for getting the layout approximately OK, but my scenes rely on atmosphere. Things like the interplay of shadows, depth of field, SSS cubes to get "God Rays", subtle reflections... For my work at least, this is what makes of breaks a render, but of course that's not to say everyone works in this way, or renders the same sorts of scenes. It's art, there's no right or wrong. But for me, there is no substitute for working in iRay and if I can't do that sensibly, It's kind of the point of having a big card!

The 3090 in 4.x was not like this. The only compromise I occasionally made on the 3090 was hiding the SSS cube when it wasn't needed, but that wasn't due to lag. That was convergence speed. I had no issues at all even running with strand-based hair fully visible. To be completely brutal, even the 1060 was OK for lag. It just ran out of memory!

So in general, it was responsive and I could easily work in iRay. The reason I switched was that I needed to go mobile. I was thinking that maybe I would hit thermal issues after rendering for hours, and might need to look at extra cooling, but that's not the issue here. Temparatures are fine, and the machine can perform other GPU-intensive tasks just as well as the 3090.

    Replication steps:

    • Add G9 to viewport.
    • Go into iRay.
    • Move viewport.
    • Nothing happens...
    • ...after a few seconds you see the change.

It's not being fussy, it's really that bad.

I'll waif for the 9th. Is there a KB for the fix that is expected to help or any more information?

Thank you :) I couldn't ever see myself using it that way. The PA plugins, yes, that would be fine, and expected. But I do not think I could achieve the quality of results that I do without working in iRay, because it is the way I am used to working, and anything else is going to disrupt by creative flow. I want to work WYSIWYG, and I have hardware that should maek that possible. I do so hate to be so negative. I suppose I'm just disappointed that I still don't have a working Daz after all the hope this morning. :(

I cannot compare on the same hardware:

     - 3090, 4.24. I can use iRay to set up scenes no problem.

     - Mobile 5090, 6.24. I get what was described.

The iRay viewport was highly responsive on the old machine. I still have it, I could get it out, boot it up and make videos if people don't believe me...

Really? With all the continuing troubles being posted in the Beta thread it was still acting like Alpha and not a Beta

Indeed... According to the logs (https://docs.daz3d.com/public/software/dazstudio/6/change_log), there's no Beta release. I guess we're the Alpha testers.

Can the AI be uninstalled? I don't want it. Period.
  • Godspeed to you brave and knowledgeable folk that downloaded Daz 6. I barely know what I'm doing now trying to have things load on my ssd card that I recently got.

I have no troubleshooting skills whatsoever. :/

It says "Free to download and try" on the shop splash; does this mean that using ds6 at  all is going to become a subscription model?

    No.

I installed Daz 6. Everything went smoothly. I opened it and opened a file previously rendered in 4.24. I did not see a faster smoother workflow or experience. The load and render time was about the same as 4.24, the iray preview was about the same as far as I could tell, but now I have to reload all my scripts and plug-ins manually (and wait for updates for those that don't work anymore.) I didn't see much advantage at this point. My decision...I uninstalled it and will continue to use 4.24 which does the job reliably and consistently. I may check out 6 at a (much) later date and see if it is worth updating to.

Here's a bug: "Shift-Y" should open the symmetry tab but doesn't.

EDIT: It does work, but only after clicking on a limb - not when selecting the limb in the scene tab.

I just did a test (in the "what IS new?" thread) and got similar results. There's nothing wrong with it on my end, but no improvements either.

If this is the one some people thoought was helpful, it's hard to see why.

This is about secure boot, inprovements to update delivery and AI. OK, there may well be some minor changes, but if anyone found this heled, then my guess (and this is based on long progessional experience) is thay changed something else at the same time without realising...

...I have also learned not to dismiss things without trying them, but I think this is so unlikely to help that I'm not going to try it early. If it works on the 9th, I will be pleasantly surprised. I would hope Daz is working on a fix, and given it's listed as a known issue, I'm sure they will be. No need to worry, just a little longer to wait IMO. I'll check back when the first point release is available. I cannot honestly see this being anything other than a Daz problem.

By the way is it possible to convert customactions.dsx from ds4.24 to ds 6?
