We are continuing our weird non-winter. Might have a chance (!?!) at snow tonight which will just dirty up the windows. Found out that part of Denver lost power yesterday, not us. My station was focused on sports and specials. Denver Water is back today to work again (3rd time) to replace the valve on a water valve. Apparently not our building but for another, but it is tied into ours. And it is located in an area in deep shade that freezes and hold water/snow forever. So, no water from 9am to 5pm. Glad I have a doctor's appointment at 10. And then might go shopping. Depending on what I find out at doctor's.

Non-complaint:  Today was a fun day in the snow, or at least looking at it from a moving automobile, the operative word here being "moving".wink  Got picked up at noon for a lunch at Olive Garden with Symphony Buddy & his roommate. We met a fourth person, that I'd met at the Christmas party.  Mmmm..., I had the salad & salmon and a Margareta, and lots of good conversation among the four of us.   New friend turned out to be a shadow soul, who had lived in Washington DC and Florida, about the same times I did during the '90s.  He, like I, had also tossed in the towel to take a mid-life-crisis/burnout trip around the USA.  Frequented some of the same gay and leather bars in DC, Boston and NYC that I did.  I might have seen him but we never knew each other back then.  New Friend has invited me to an art show in a city about 40 miles east of me this coming Saturday.  Wheee... another mini-adventure.  Also, Symphony Buddy reminded me of an upcoming symphony in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 21.  Dvorak: "From The New World"  Wheee... so many mini-adventures already this year.smiley

Non-complaint:  Yay!  After a week or two of dry, bloody nose weather, my humidifier has finally shut itself off.  Aye, Admiral.  Thar be humids here.

Complaint:  Now it's time to thoroughly clean the humidifier with vinegar water to disolve the powdered calcium deposits on it, and disbursed around my apartment coating my collectibles.frown

I get tired of people asking if I understand the severity of a situation.  What am I supposed to do?  I dont know what they want me to do. I get confused why they keep telling me that the situation is serious.

Complaint: My oldest cat wasn't happy today. Today was Clipping day because the floor was clicking under her feet as she walked. No Scratches or bites on my hands, but she did try, believe you me, she tried.

Non-Compliant: She still purrs when walking into the Rooms she is in.

Not sure what is up, but Cloud Fare is crazy bad this morning.

Complaint:  Well, that didn't last long.  The humids have fled again.  Never did get the humidifier cleaned before it was pressed into service again.frown

Complaint:  Doctor take your own advice:  I'm embarrased to say that this house experienced a burst pipe, despite my cocksure advice to keep a faucet dripping.blush  Yesterday afternoon I was surprised to hear a knock at my door, and opened it to see an obviously irritated and flustered neighbor/maintenance guy, trying to quickly explain that he'd just shut off the water in the house.  Apparently, a pipe attached to the water heater in the basement had burst a small hole and became a spraying leak that had been spraying for days, coating the basement wall & floor with now frozen water!frown  So, I spent much of last night trying not to depend on water in the faucets or toilet.

Non-Complaint:  The leak was pronounced fixed about 9:00 last night.  Yay for handy people living in your own building.yes  I wasn't disturbed too much by the lack of running water, I had food already prepared and waiting to be microwaved, and I was able to make coffee and tea and rinse out pans with the three liters of water in bottles that I had prepared to take upstairs to the humidifier in my bedroom.  It's always prudent to have some water handy in such situations.enlightened  It remains to be seen how long it takes for the cellar to drain and dry.indecision  The only other downside to this situation was that after the repair, the water ran rusty for a minute or so.  AOK now.yes

Water Shortage Mantra:  If it's yellow, let it mellow.  If it's brown, flush it down.indecision

Speaking from experience, hope there is no mold growing.  That can be quite a pain to deal with!

...guess they forgot to feed thr hamster.

  • Probably. Poor Hammy. RIP.

    Cats. I have a complaint:

When I left home this morning I was dripping blood from my neck.
As I was going to work this morning my wife was in bed & kitten was on her lap. So, as is required, I paid homage and said goodbye to the kitten first, then bent over to give my wife a kiss.
Kitten likes to be up high, saw a horizontal back and tried to jump up on my shoulder. Being an incompetent kitten, only three paws made it, and one back paw waved about for any purchase it could find. My neck. So the claws dug in and he hauled himself up by brute force. As he hauled, his back claws slipped over my neck and draw blood. Not a lot, but enough to need mopping up with a couple of sheets of loo paper. I'm also pretty sure his front claws went through my jumper, shirt & vest into my back. He's big, heavy and... not terribly competent. Hrrumph.

Yesterday, in the sun, he accompanied my wife when she did gardening out the back. It was the first time we've seen him run up trees. Correction, try to run up trees. His first effort led to him hitting a branch with his forehead 2 feet off the ground and falling back. All his other efforts led to him getting nearly 3ft off the ground before falling out of the tree.

Did I mention he's incompetent? He may learn, but he's remarkably stubborn about it. He can't yet pull doors open. He can push, though. I always thought Maine Coons were supposed to be the intelligent breed, but kitten is obviously trying to be exceptional.

    Regards,

    Richard

Richard, maybe he needs glasses? Charlie my older, larger Ginger searches the air when I approach as if he is trying to figure out where I am and once he spots me, he is okay. I keep wondering how much skin would be left after trying to fit glasses/goggles on a cat?

I am glad you survived 'death by kitten' decapitation though.

I really hadn't thought of that. He's not short sighted, that's certain.

But he could be long sighted, I suppose. It could explain some of his clumsiness. So, too, could the fact he's not grown into his body yet.

    Regards,

    Richard

This is too hard.  It is posted by Dr. Pepper.  It says it is hard mode, but it is posted by Dr. Pepper!

I hope the center is closed by time I get there.  Schools around here are on a 2 hour delay.

  • Complaint Update: Plumbers were able to do some temporary repairs Tuesday, & will be back when they can get under mobile home to fix the problems. Right now is too wet, plus access is at back where it gets almost no sun so snow/ice takes forever to melt. Also plumber is happy to make payment arrangements. Also Gilly the ditzy & very friendly Collie got pets from his new plumber pals.

Non-complaint: I spent the last 15 minutes cuddling both my warm & snuggly puppers. Now they want breakfast.

The day center is open, so I have to wait to go grocery shopping.  I need cheese and butter!

Neither ChatGPT nor copilot can tell me who this is.  Hint it is not Bobby Drake.  Copilot now thinks he is a plumber.  I don't think I can afford his plumbing work.

I keep seeing ads for a site called Daz.  It looks like a 3D website but the site itself is actually 2D.

    Hello..., hello..., hello..., hell..., ...o...indecision

Complaint:  More water trouble.  -4(F) last night.  Bathroom shower & sink water is slow, no toilet refill at all.frown  Maintenance guy checked basement, no spraying water again, yet.indecision

Complaint:  Coldest night of the year, humidifiers struggled mightily to reach their goal, but failed.  Nosebleed sprung right as I was ready to sit down and eat my breakfast.  A half hour later I finally finished my cold oatmeal and cold coffee.no

Non-complaint:  New Friend is picking me up soon for a trip to an "art show" about an hour away.  I hope the two or three hours in cold dry air doesn't reactivate my nosebleed.

Definition:  Rural art show:  I looked up this show on the Internet.  It is essentially, high class crafts.  But perhaps with more utility and evidence of talent than 99.9% of "modern art", so there's that to be thankful for.devil  I'm just looking forward to more opportunity to talk with my shadow soul during the long car ride.smiley

I just turned on the tv with my remote not too long ago.  Now I don't know where that remote is.  It is like I just had it but now I don't know where it is.  Where is the remote?  ooh my sewing machine looks like it could be used soon.

I don't know how you heat your house. If it's Steam, sit some cans of water on the radiators. If it's central heating, maybe a can here and there on outlets to increase the humidity.

House heat here is forced air.  I have two registers, one in the living room floor, one in the wall between kitchen and bathroom(blows out both sides).  Bedroom upstairs gets any heat that rises from the first floor.  I sleep under an electric blanket.  I'm considering putting a big pot of water on the stove to get more humids into the room during the day, if weather continues this dry.  Two more days of cold, before 20(F) shows its face around here again.

The "Art Show" was indeed just overpriced crafts, but I got a free plate of celery, carrots & cauliflower and a dab of ranch dressing.  Wheee...indecision  I could have had a glass of wine too but I don't like wine.cheeky   I wasn't impressed but the trip in the car with Shadow Soul was very connective.  We have so much in common.  And I have an invitation to go to Ft. Lauderdale in a couple of weeks for a week.  His dime.  Wheee...yes   Although, I'm not sure I'm ready for that much of an adventure with someone I've just met.  But then again, I'm 77 on limited income, opportunities like that are rare.  (*Sigh, decisions, decisions*)indecision

Non-complaint: Highs are set in the mid to upper 30's for the next week... likely warm enough long enough to melt the snow off the trails and make them clear enough for walking. A rare gift this time of year!

complaint: ...but due to other reasons, it's not safe to go.
