Complaint: I put something in the microwave to heat for lunch, the microwave gave an extra loud clunk hum as if working and then went dark, with a smell of hot electronics.

Complaint^2: trying to cook dinner without the microwave to thaw and speed certain things along.

Not pretty for me with 10 to 15 inches of snow and 50+ mph winds.

The storm is expected to be more coastal; so while you may get a little snow you should be OK.

    FERN

Is a deceptive name for such a harsh and destructive winter storm.

    This my complaint.

In the Heart of America, I've never had much of a problem with the snow itself. The problem is all of the people acting as if it isn't there... People deciding a school or workplace should be open, as if the blizzard isn't there. And people driving as if the snow or ice isn't there.

Regarding FERN:  Oh, I don't know, perhaps think of it as Ferocious, Energetic, Roaring, Nastiness.

Complaint:  I haven't been off my porch since my last mini-adventure nine days ago.  Until this morning, when I had to brave the cold(6F) and snow(2 foot' total) to toddle (with my cane) down to the mailbox to mail the rent check.  No bills today, but I'm still getting advertisements for Medicare Advantage plans.  No thank you, been there, done that, burned the t-shirt.  Not my solution anymore.

Non-complaint:  Yay!  Symphony Buddy has arranged a lunch on Monday at Olive Garden with a friend I met at the Christmas party, who has also lived in Washington DC, and into leather.  Hoping to see if we knew any of the same people from back then ('80s & '90s), or at least frequented the same places.

Now I know we are for trouble -- Jim Cantore is coming.

Plus Dare County where I live has declared a state of emergency.

Having a bit of a struggle to move my little "fake fireplace" electric heater into my main hang out area , poor mini splits are struggling to keep the inside temps at 60 degrees with it as cold as it is outside.

I wouldn't have known what a 'mini-split' was except that the other day I watched one of the Property Brothers shows and they used them in a 1905 bungalow where there was no place for normal HVAC system. And they were referred to by that term by the famous model.

I am happy you are at least in one piece and able to get word out to us. Hopefully with a lot of warm clothes on.

yup warm flannel nighties knee socks fuzzy slippers ,make life good along with hot mint tea ,life is good  Thank you very much . yup yup I had a normal HVAC  for 9 years but it could not despite numerous replairs and changes heat this little house in the winter ,it was much cheaper to go with the mini splits then to do what the HVAC company wanted which was a totally new HVAC unit all new duct work ,it was ridiculous .....on a fixed income and not made out of money ,and thier whole plan would have cost more then my house was/is worth. The mini splits do struggle when the temps are as low as they have been the last couple of weeks ,but 60 degrees won't kill ya ,so I'm content .

...I've seen the kids (and sometimes parents) getting more snow days here in Portland than when I was growing up In Wisconsin.  2" - 3 " inches here will bring the city to a standstill (school closures, business closures, events cancelled, buses "chained up", and all day snowpocalypse news coverage). Back in "tundra country" we would consider that a "dusting".

Unless it was coming down at 1"- 2" an hour piling up and drifting, life went on as usual..

Interesting (and annoying) fact, here in Portland they allow studded tyres while in Wisconsin those are illegal.

I emailed a note to my BFF from high school('62-'66) who now lives in NYC (and has for 60 years) about the major snow happening in and around the city this year, suggesting that it seems to be more than here in Western NY State.  He wrote back, with a grin, something to the effect of "Piffle, these city folk don't know real snow like us lake effect survivers".laugh

Non-complaint:  It's snowing again, but it's almost warm out there.  10(F) on my porch this morning.  Thankfully, this apartment has been warm enough for me all winter.  The thermometer at my recliner has been above 70(F) most of the time.  Must have been the work the maintenance guy did plugging air leaks in the stone basement walls last fall.  Yay, no cold toes, or hours long snuggling under my granny blanket while watching TV.smiley

Complaint:  Concern for the people in the Mid-Atlantic region, and even down into Florida, another killer frost for whatever orange orchards that are left.  Do Disney in ski apparel.frown

...well that was freaky, Some sort of server error popped up(not the usual "bad gateway" one) while I was writing a response which distorted the graphic from the bottom of your post across the entire screen.

    anyway...

...been refraining from mentioning about the weather here as it's been slightly above normal in the temperature department with sunny calm days instead of the usual heavy icy cold rain and strong winds.

Today however seems we re getting a taste  of spring and its already 61° (at 12:40 local time) and sunny. More such weather on tap for next week.  Even seen a few daffodils already in bloom

The big downside of this is the snow pack in the mountains is very light.   This not only has an impact on the ski season but more importantly a high risk of drought this summer that will affect both the farming region east of he mountains and the Willamette Valley on the west side.  This also increases wildfire risks as well.

Before completing the comment that same error occurred again, [twice. the third time when I submitted this].  Seems their servers have a new annoying issue today. Managed to copy over what I had entered and finished the post in Word.

Yes, it's a cat. She's about 19 and doesn't like coming to the front room unless there is a fire going.

She is beautiful. My cats only get to sit in front of a thingie that emits steam and light, before a You Tube video of a burning fire. I miss my two-sided wood burning fireplace a lot. The dogs would lay on the elevated butt rest that wrapped around the island it was in. Glass doors protected them and me when I joined them.

Not particularly cold or particularly snowy (2" coming overnight is pretty much nothing). I think Ma Nature is having mercy on us.

Little Dude is cooped up and restless and fussy, and I'm tired in ways no amount of coffee is going to fix.

This is the longest winter ever, and it's nowhere near done.

Bur I have a new rubber garbage disposal splash guard to replace the one that was falling apart. So there's that.

Oddly enough, I grew up in a church. And I’ve decided to delete the long explanation of why this made me very tired.

And I was in the choir. There was a song they would sing that always drove me crazy. It goes, “I don’t feel no ways tired”. It drove me crazy because every time I’ve ever heard “I don’t feel no ways tired”, I was basically every ways tired. That song is the biggest lie ever.

There are some bigger lies out there.

I’m going to bed. I’m tired. I’ll probably dream about them singing that song while driving through a soybean field.

I am cold.  My breakfast was cold so I put it in the microwave.  Now I need to check if my breakfast is still cold or if it needs more time.  I probably should put on a pull over or something to warm myself up.

Just checking up:  Storm seems to be mostly over.  Anybody missing from here?  No collapsed houses, or people frozen in bed?  Burst water pipes?  Is there a tree on your car?  Any catatonic lizards falling from trees?  Did your Florida swimming pool freeze?  Did you do Disney in ski apparel?indecision

Complaint: Lost power at 4:02 am.  I found out about 4:30 am, when I woke to go to the bathroom.  Had to shut off the all the UPS's, then got back in bed, where I was warm after a minute.  Don't know how cold it was, but it's still only 16 degrees at noon!  Power didn't return until 8:02 am.  Didn't fall back asleep for a while.  Just got up about 50 minutes ago.  Late start to my day.  Those are my complaints.

It took over a week but kitchen pipes froze last night. Bathroom pipes are fine & I have many clean filled bottles & jugs so we still have water.

Complaints: We need a better heater in living room. Old mobile home walls  aren't airtight. We have found a home building kit that's affordable but not until we can pay off a couple loans this spring.

Non-complaints: Everything about above home kit except timeline. Only 5 more payments on our shed. I think we've found an affordable heater that will do the job.

The snow is over and thankfully although we had 50 to 60 mph winds here on the NC Outer Banks we didn't lose power or heat. But with 12+ inches of snow we are definitely snowed in for awhile.
