I'm on the fence about Penny, but this is a fabulous render. It really looks like a photo. She looks great here!
Ugh she looks kinda fat and her forehead is too big, those guys from "daz originals" just don't know how to make figures it seems see Victoria 8 which looked to me like they wanted to make her ugly on purpose. Maybe hire the guy back who made all the amazing 7 figures.
FWSA Vivian is looking quite good but not buying it just for this figure. I like nothing else from the pro bundle so no thank you for me.
I don't think skin color is the big issue, I've got entire rainbow of characters in my runtime and love them all. It's whether the new ones are unique enough from what we already have and can do with the many tools available.
The vintage Hollywood angle is a great concept, but after studying the promos, it seems like some of them missed the boat. Penny doesn't look bad, neither does her bundle, but some of the promos really don't show off the vintage angle. Will be interesting to see the images people post here.
P3D nailed it in her Elaina promos though. Wonderful images reminiscent of a young Elizabeth Taylor. I will definitely be purchasing that figure.
Yeah, that's one of my big points.
With Kimo and Kalea 7, it's that we finally got a Pacific Islander character that actually looked like they came from Oceania. That brought something new to the table. And in fairness, Ivan 7 was "fresh" in the sense that he was a big, grizzled-looking character, as opposed to the youthful male models up to that point. Bethany 7 offered a completely different body type not seen on an official Daz character up to that point.
But so far it's just been... abysmal on Daz's end of things. I think the only characters so far that actually brought something new to the G8 table were Sakura 8 and Ollie 8. And they're toon characters, albeit two very different styles of toon.
And I'll be kind and say that some of the outfits in Penny 8's bundle are nicely done. But I don't know if I need them, if that make any sense.
I can totally see this, since you mentioned it. I'm going to get the pro bundle only because I'm collecting the Gen 8 bundles as a final lap around this wheel. Don't think I will be using anything but the clothing and hair, though.
Penny looks like Alexandra after a heavy chemical peel and lots of dermal fillers.
The clothing in the bundle is nice but not anything I would currently have a use for.
Gonna pass on this one.
Edward 8 was a way more successful take on "action hero of ambiguous age with a bit of mileage on him but still looking good" than the fresh faced Gianni 7 or Michael 7, the gnarly Ivan 7, or the weaselly looking Lucian 7, and didn't suffer from the wussy fake looking eyebrows of Leo 7 and Dante 7. Those G3M guys are all very useful in their own way, but Edward filled a niche that they did not.
The detail will probably come with the HD add-on.
She's kinda bland. If they were going for a younger looking Alexandra character, I can almost see that. But other than that, she's not as interesting as some of the others. Honestly, she almost look like Victoria 8 after about 3 dial spins. We got some time before Daz unleashes the 10th anniversary line, so I'm sure they have some more up their sleeves. But from a diversity stand point, there is only Monique 8 and Darius 8. Alexandra 8 and Edward 8 brings the "mature" diversity to the table and Ollie 8 and Sakura 8 brings the cartoon/caricature looks. But other ethnicities at this point will be welcomed.

Genesis 8 figures are almost variations of one model. I think the goal isn't to propose different models, it would be to propose a set of subtle details.
The creativity is left to the consumer in order to create their own unique characters.
Generic, completely uninspired looking spamware model. Nothing that couldnt be done with a good morph pack. Also, I cant help but think that her head is out of proportion, too small in comparison to her body.
Nothing really special about the bundle items.

Exactly! The main seller when they release a non-caucasian character is that they're just non-caucasian.. Where's the older black lady, where's the plus-size asain woman. I don't even understand what use Penny is?? I could get there and better with skins and morphs readily available.
It's genuinley annoying because all she is to me is two more weeks until I might get a chance of something original.
Even though I didn't buy Ollie, I enjoyed the release because he was an original character... It's not only about race but originality. Something that inspires me.
She's ready for her close ups.

Penny 8 or Alexandra 8 figures can be combined with Monique 7 or 8 textures, you're totally free to create many black characters.
Just they are "basic tools" for the creativity.

Good looking figure. I may finally have a body and texture for the Summer Glau I've forever been trying to do. One day I will reinstall DS and get back into it, but, today isn't it. Too much else to do.

Where'd did Penny get the long gloves and jewels in the main Penny promo pix?
She may end up in my cart only because Ophelia and Genevieve have been in my wish list forever, Penny and her bundle do nothing for me. If not for the freebies this would be a hard pass.
Causian and African features are usually not that similar.. Doesn't Daz want to inspire people.. why are they aiming for basic? Was Ollie basic?
It's not about black or white or asian, it's about selling a product that's unique and interesting. They keep pumping out the most generic cuacasian characters...
And the HD add on for her will be just another couple of liplines and a bit if detail on the hands.. eugh.
Those would be the only reasons I would purchase this character. Alas, I already have them.
Looking at the pictures, I think the "dForce Vivacious Chemise Add-On Textures" are beautiful.
I think the Penny 8 model might look nice with a touch of Karyssa 8 mixed in to give a softer more feminine look.
Gen 8 adult females always seem to have a too tall and heavy jawed Hollywood look for me (as women aren't like that in my area) and Karyssa is quite remarkable her ability to soften that.
I don't have Penny yet so can't be sure.
EDITED: Never mind. I have no idea what I was looking at before.
I actually like most of the clothing -- although I think that the Breakfast Date dress needs a better name and a better main promo. (I'm pretty sure that most breakfast dates, even in the glamourous past, weren't quite that formal, and even if they were, you wouldn't wear a leather dress to them.) I don't care about the poses -- I never care about the poses in a package, though. I think I like the hairs in concept, although how much, I'm not sure. (I'm not entirely sure why Starlette hair seems to inspire people to such rage in this thread!)
I just don't know if any or all of that is enough to make me buy after a month of big sales. And the addition of free pro bundles I already made the conscious decision not to buy doesn't help move the decision needle.
(I am ... weirdly amused by the addons that trigger the discount. Texture sets for the clothing in the bundles, characters based on the main shape, jewelry to go with some of the clothing and characters ... and a building. I quite like the building, in fact -- I like most of Bitwelder's stuff -- but it's a weird note, especially since it's differently period than everything else in the sale.)

Mei Lin, Lee, Kimo, Kalea, Hiro male Sakura, female Ollie, sooo many character packs I'd love to buy but this is what shows up. Latin Ameria, the Middle East, Asia - over half the world's population hasn't been represented yet and Black characters are seriously underrepresented so obviously Penny is the solution.
I would have loved them to go more 40's 50's look to the actual figure-curves, a bust..those gals were so gorgeous back then. I know we could dial all that in, but I'm kind of disappointed she looks like a younger Alexandra. Some of the PA characters are gorgeous though..
This picture. Not the same gloves at all unless using a different texture- very sheer with butterflies. Also the very top of the arm looks very different. The bracelet on the right arm and the necklace.
Definitely underwhelmed by her. But all 5 of the Free Pro bundles have been in my wishlist for quite sometime. So it's hard to pass up the deal of getting so much content for free. Just gotta decide which Pro bundles I want.
Yeah, I caught that right after I posted and edited, but you posted before I re-posted! I don't know how I missed her main promo before. Unfortunately, I have no useful information there.

That's my own feelings but I never feels Genesis 2,3,8 figures be "unique".
For example, Genesis 3 Victoria, Stephanie, Eva, Bethany, Karen, Gia, Ophelia, Lilith, Arabella, Olympia, ... it's always the same model with a few of variations.
