The description for Teen Josie 8 says she's 5' 5". Hopefully Stephanie will be petite as she's been in the past. Taller gals are great, but some of them are towering over the quite tall guys.

@Cybersox I really like her with the youth morph dialed in. She looks very good there.

    @agent unawares Thank you!

So far she is my favorite of the DO characters for G8 (and the only one I purchased.) She is a bit stylized but great to cutify the gene pool. And "teen" could be up to 19. When I was 16, people thought I was in my 20's and Josie definitely looks younger than I did as a teen LOL.

Still well worth it to get a petite (or at least more petite) figure into this generations gene pool.

Kind of like Alice 4. Liked the shape, never cared for the face.

ETA: Somehow, Josie8 puts me in mind of some of the graphics from the '20s. Big eyes, bee-stung lips, needs a cloche hat and spit curls. Boop boop a doop!

..she still has bigger boobs than Julie 5

YT Julie 5 is presented and sold as a young teen, whereas all of the Josies have always been presented as being older, so they're going to be more 'developed'.  My personal take is that most of DAZ's non-fairie/non-toon female figures tend to be taller and larger breasted than an 'averaged' real-world female, so unless a charcter is supposed to be in their late 30s and up, I almost always roll in just a tiny bit of the youth morph from the apprpriate Zev's Growing Up pack.

Personally, I thought Belle 6 was probably the best attempt at a real world teen that DAZ has produced to date, but apparently she didn't sell well enough to justify ressurecting the name ala Gia, Olympia, Josie, etc.

...I totally agree about Belle6 as she also has custom morphs of her own.   I frequently use her in varying degrees via GenX2 for a number of my G3 teen characters.

Indeed I find Julie7 excellent for fey characters as well, she is the foundation (along with a bit of Giselle6) for Leela's girlfriend Tracey who is an elf.

...ahh I was referring to the various Genesis Head Morph sets not just general character head shapes.  They have individual morphs like you mention.

    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-head-morphs

AS I mentioned, I also have a number of head Morph Merchant resoruce kits as well.

I know, but it's not always easy to get a good result by modifying an extreme morph like pouting, if it's custom made which they usually are now. Would be better if the artist made individual lip, nose and eye etc. morphs where zero was the default figure morph, instead of just a "head" morph.

I'm not sure though if the morph is based on a merchant resource and you happen to have that installed. Can you then zero e.g. a lip morph back to figure default? I guess you could if the morph package was required but what if it isn't? The head morph must then be a separate morph independent of the resource package but maybe you still can adjust/zero the individual morphs if you have the resource installed?

The merchant resoruce head morphs are also from Handspun (Thorne) and include a thin lips morph.

Plus they include a lot of Thorne style lips which can be dialed back.

Well as long as they can be dialed back, it's fine. I've had a lot of problems with making custom morphs look good though.

Wonder why there were no Stephanie 7? Will there be an 8, actually?

Stephanie 8 has been spotted in the list of fits for at least one item, so there's a good chance she'll be there Soon(TM).

I think Josie 8 (she's cute!) does look like a teen though her lips and the chin seem to be a bit too big. I didn't like the childlike looks of earlier Josies - e.g. Josie 7 looks like an 8 years old - so TJ8 imo is the first 'real' teenager. The eyelashes are what makes me hesitate - is it possible to replace them with V8 or G8F Base lashes?

@caravelle, Josie 8 has a hidden Eyelashes morph. I don't understand why it is hidden. Perhaps unintentionally? Anyway, search for Josie in the Hidden morphs section of the Parameters. If you dial it all the way to "0" (without any other morphs active,) you get the default eyelashes size and shape. Josie's eyelashes trans map is still longer and fuller than the default lashes, though. If you want, replace the trans map with lashes from another figure, (G8 or G3)

ETA: I just looked it up and the name of the morph is PHMTeenJosie8Lashes.

Thanks for your help, L'Adair! smiley

  • Truth be told there are a LOT of teens nowadays that don't really look like teens.  Heck, when we used to go Germany to visit family, my parents were constanly pulling out my passport to prove that I was eligible for the reduced fare for being under 16.  I was 13 and looked like I was 18 or 19.  But, that just means that the *look* for teenagers tends to mean someone who looks younger, despite the fact that many teens look more mature than what we as a society think of when we think teen.  To me, teen means inbetween child and grown up despite the fact that most teens look like grown up or very close to grown up by the time they are 16.

  • This is why no one can agree how old she is.

FWIW she seems to average at 23-24.

Yeah I'd say it's a failure. I tried with literally the same character from different angles and the results are all over the place.

It seams to work best with straight on face shots. Not side shots.

One last Josie 8 render.  Same pose and stuff as the previous render, but this time she's standing on the Enterprise bridge.  This is a bit of a lighting test too see how she renders under these lights.

Uhmmmmmmm.... where exactly is that Star Trek: The Motionless PIcture bridge from?  I want that bridge!  :D :D

Maybe, but then again, if one was in the works, why go back to the old "third Tuesday of the month" release pattern instead of releasing them every other week like they been doing with Gen 7?

Maybe they've decided that the Gen 7 release pattern was not optimal. They released M8 much earlier than before, so there's definitely a change in their strategy.

True, but at the same time, this also doesn't promise they won't go back to releasing a single male character periodically among the sea of females like in Gen 6. At least in Gen 7 there was almost always a male counterpart right behind the female of the month. I just hope Daz holds true to their word that they'll "try something new" in place of what what doesn't sell.

If what they're selling isn't selling, it would be terrible buisiness not to try "something new".  The problem with that logic, however, is that there's a pretty good perceved track record of male figures not selling as well as the females. My personal guess is that we'll see less male stuff in Gen 8 than we did in G3M, as they were doing a lot of super-discounts on the later males even while they were being introduced, and all of this feels like a stop-gap between the current product and whatever happens when the clock ticks over to DAZ Studio 5.

I seem to recall only one figure released during event sales, even with the "7" figures. It makes sense, March Madness, PA Festival and PC Anniversary always have deeper discounts for new releases. And without any inside information, I would think, (pure speculation,) that new figures generally sell well. If you're a PC member, you're already paying less than half for a Daz Original new release. With this sales current structure, it's extremely easy to get 50% off new releases. As a PC member, it works out to 65% off. Great for us, not so great for Daz.

They already gave us Josie 8 with extra discounts, (I paid less than $50 for the pro bundle, and got three generations of Josie et al pro bundles for free.) I expect we'll see another "8" figure during the PC Anniversary. Whether or not they will go back to a two a month release schedule after that, only Daz knows for sure.

I speculate DS5 is a long ways off. The current private build is 4.10.0.81.

...I've been with this since 2007 starting with ver 1.7.  Most of my early work was in 1,8 which in spring of 2008 was superseded by 2.0.  In 2009 we got 3.0 which heralded the move to 64 bit with the "Pro" version. Two years later (2011) it was 4.0 and introduction of the Genesis concept.  Since then we have still been in working in some update of version 4.  That's something like six years.

How much longer will the wait for 5 be?

MOST of the Thorne characters do not have a male counterpart, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. :)

So happy I got the Josie bundle. I didn't particularly have an interest in G8 and I really hate V8's looks (and not into Olympia 8 either) but adding a little Josie and her derivatives plus extra morphs is a game changer for G8 for me. This is Willa skin with just a dash of Willa & Josie morphs plus other morphs in a partial render (taking FOREVER on my laptop) but I'm really happy with G8 finally... Josie doesn't have to be a teen but can make G8 prettier in my opinion.

Usually major updates (e.g. 4-5) have more new and significant features than minor updates (e.g. 4.2-4.3).

It has been explained that DS 5 is likely to come when there is a need to make significant changes to the underlying SDK. As such a lot of existing plug-ins would stop working, which may include plug-ins where the PA that created them are no longer with us (eg: GenX), so would not get updated to work with DS 5. As such I am happy that DAZ continue with 4.X versions for as long as possible.
