PS. Not clothing, but in the sale, Paradise Pavilion and add on textures. Nice backdrop for all our old stuff, and they look surprisingly good in Iray.

Those are neat! Maybe we should create a threat to share all the old backgrounds/sets and how they look when converted to Iray. I picked up a ton of them! Including DM's Queen's Chamber (I even forgot to throw in an uber base and it still rendered superb!) which I used for the render below.

Render below shows the A3/V3 outfit Fashionista with it's original textures (outfit comes with 4 different trextures) converted to Iray via PD Iray Shader Kit 2 (cannot recommend it enough!). Now, I didn't use Fit Control on this outfit. Using smoothing and collision worked incredibly well.

    • The skirt stretches when posing the figure, but twisting & bending + smoothing can decrease that.
    • The shoes didn't transfer well with WearThemAll (right girl shows what happens). So, on the left girl I parented the shoes instead. It took some fiddling to get them on her feet + smoothing and increasing the collision level, but they are usable.

Overall, I REALLY like the outfit, especially the jacket!

Ok, here's another crack at Victoria's Changing Fantasy Outfit and the Olympian Comforming Clothing. I converted from V2 to V3 via Cross Dresser. There are options to keep morphs or add fitting morphs. It's hit or miss- sometimes the program crashes. Not sure why. I need to learn Cross Dresser better. There's a TON you can do with.

The feet are still an issue, but the rest fits very well. For the Olympian, the sandals fit fine, in the default T pose. But if you choose any other pose, they go wonky. That's why Olympia 7 looks like a Barbie doll here, I just put her arms down, but left her lower half in the T pose.

For Victoria's Changing Fantasy Suit, I had to actually scale down the thigh bones of the outfit and do some dialing of the feet and toes to get this anywhere close to fitting. It still looks wonky. I put the smoothers on and hid the toes that were poking through. It's the best I can do on that one. This texture is from one of the add on mappacks and doesn't look bad. The shield still warps when posed, so in this case, posing the lower body and carefully hand posing the upper body might work best. Or just use a different shield and turn this one's opacity to zero in the Surfaces Tab.

I may load this on a V3 in Poser to see if I can find those dials that are supposed to change the suit. They aren't anywhere to be found in DAZ so far.

Well the good news is the morphs to change the Changing Fantasy Suit are available in DS, the bad news is that those morphs seem to be lost when you autofit them to another figure, so will only work when fit to the original V1/2 or M1/2 figures.

The morphs are also not on the main figure, but on a part of the figure. For example for the helmet, click and select this (ie the head part), and then look in the Parameters and you will see a parameter called "Change Part". For Victoria's Changing Fantasy Suit you can click on this drop down list and select from 6 other helmets (albeit the last 3 are really just head jewelry, not helmets). Likewise selecting chest, hip and forearm will also allow you to change parts of the suit.

There is probably a workaround to the autofit removes the morph problem. but I have not found it so far.

@giselle3000 That's a great idea to start a thread for the sets. I'm finding a lot of the older ones translate well. A few definitely need retexturing, but you can hide a lot with DOF. I've only had one total failure, and that's Vanishing Point's Coloseum. Tried it in Poser and DAZ, and it's just really showing its age. It's very low res and retexturing made it look even worse.

Fashionist and the Queen's Chamber look good!

@Havos That's good to know that they're in there. I noticed on some other clothing that some lost their morphs with autofit but kept them if you parented the item instead. Doesn't work well with pants but sometimes works with skirts. I bet there is a workaround though. And I'm sure there's a ton more that can be done in CrossDresser, I just need to dig into the documentation more.

@Llynara: Yeah, I saw your posts about the Colloseum. Such a shame, since that product looked amazing. I wouldn't even know how to retexture that, unfortunatelly. But making a thread and posting how the old products age could help. Maybe more people could get involve and some of us could try to retexture some of them. At the very least, it will be interesting to find those hidden gems.

In other news, I'd forgotten I'd bought Hiro 3 bundles for extremely cheap during the sale. It just so happens that I acquired Ryu - Dragon Tamer (which is currently $2.09 USD). I refitted it to Gen3 and... I'm impressed! I'd say this is more usable than the Fortune Hunter H3 outfit I checked. Not only did the morphs work (so it's easy to add movement to the sash), but the original textures with only an uber base thrown in look pretty good.

In movement. Surprisingly, not a lot of collision happening and smoothing wasn't even upped.

It also has a lot of different areas, so reshading's easy.

I'm really digging this one, so I created some quick bump and normal maps to push the original textures a bit more. On the left are the originals, on the right the originals + maps. I'm thinking that chest plate might look better with fit control, so I'll play around with that and post my result.

Oh, wow! That one looks very good. I didn't even realize I had that. It was in the Hiro 3 Megabundle. I just picked up Keitaro Dragon Tamer, which looks like a nice basic Asian outfit. I do love me some Asian stuff (served in the Army in Korea ages ago and my two youngest chlidren are part Korean.) Anyhow, I picked up a whole bunch of really nice looking kimonos and other Asian style outfits and sets.

I''ll go start a thread for the sets. Nice to find others who love digging out the older items and finding the hidden treasures. It's alot of fun.

PS. Who is the guy in the renders? He's adorable!

I was wondering if anyone had tried fitting kids 4 clothes to a genesis 3 female with the growing up morphs? If so, how well did it work?

I think I picked up a few kids 4 dresses. Will try fitting them to a G3F when I get off work and post my results.

Oh! I didn't see that Tamer one! I might end up picking it as well, since they look pretty nice! And the guy is a mix of Michael5 Oliver with some G2 Jason and some Michael 7 dialed in, I believe. Will check and post the details. Cause I also morphed his face a bit, but loved the result. I kept thinking he looks like Hercules hahaha.

Thanks, that is very helpful. I did some experimenting earlier and found that Wear Them All for G3F does a very good job converting most Genesis clothes to Growing Up for G3F morphs. It's generally a lot better than the default autofit of G3F clothes to Growing Up. I really like the Wear Them All products! Next, I need to get Sickle Yields products and try going the other direction: G3F to Genesis and Growing Up for Genesis.

Also, Wear Them All does a good job of converting Genesis clothes for Amber and Skyler/Rayn.

Excellent! Did the morphs (movement?) for the clothing still work after conversion (say for the scarf, for instance)?

    Thanks @giselle3000.

I did this last summer! But I still have the file (amazing!).

There is only style morphs for this outfit (https://www.daz3d.com/winter-fun-for-kids-4) and they still work for example the morph "fit over ears" for the hat is still effective. Checked also the jacket and everything seems to work fine. The scarf has no movement or style morph.

Thanks, @xmasrose(akatulipe), good to know! I do wonder why some outfits lose the morphs and others retain it. I'm always happy when they still work after tranferring :D

Here's Evilson for M4 on Genesis3 with only uberbase thrown in. All the morphs (it comes with a LOT of them) work after conversion, which is excellent for posing and adding movement. Overall, it's a great outfit for extremely cheap! It'll probably look even better if each material was tweaked individually... but I grew lazy.

    Complete outfit:

Without the cape (I'm loving that tunic) & vest. The shoulder bits can be taken off as well, but he doesn't look so imposing without them.

I so love that shadowdancer outfit! I have the V4 version - should reinstall it, I have a lovely set of add on textures by ...motif...i think his name was, from rendo back in the day.

Oh, nice to know this outfit transfers well (even the shoes). I kept putting that one in and out of my cart during the last sale. I'll maybe get it next time!

A real quick & dirty one of Victoria 7 wearing the Shadow Dancer for V4.

Problems: if you autofit the belt that has the holster attached, the holster disappears. I've seen this happen with a few accessories - sword sheath with sword attached, sword disappears. Loading it and then parenting it to V7 helps, and then just fiddling with the morphs when you pose her. Here I autofitted, and then loaded the holster separately and then just moved it around till i could get an approximate fit.

Shoes: egads cherpenbeck, how'd you get your boots so good? I had smoothing set to 6 and they are still lumpy. Flat boots/shoes fit much better going from V4 -> V7 generally - high heels are usually a no hope. But I had trouble with her shoes here as you can see. The legtie isn't so good either - the tie itself is good, but again, if you are autofitting the knife/dagger will disappear and I loaded the knife separately, but didn't spend much time in moving it around.

I really like Shadow Dancer - a nice simple outfit but good for action scenes. Could suit sci fi with the right textures, and fits contemporary as well if you don't use the guns. Not skimpy or overly sexy, but suits a fighter.

Those textures are fantastic! I wonder why this set had trouble transfering the shoes yet Aiko3 (@Cherpenbeck) one, didn't. Usually, I've found transfering V3/4->V7 easier in regards to fit than trying to fit A3->V7. I guess another option would be to parent the shoes? Are the shoes separate from the shin-guard?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

The textures are Motif's "MORE Textures & Styles for Shadowdancer" over at rendo. They're great. I just added the default iray shader to them with no tweaks. Set is still available for sale.

Yep, the shoes are separate - item by themselves. I'll try again later and really crank up the smoothing, see if that helps. Or...maybe making her feet invisible before I autofit? Wonder if that would work.

Here's Wonderland Mad Hatter for M4 on G3. This one is out of the box with just an uberbase thrown in. My observations:

    • Textures looks pretty good in Iray without tweaking.
    • There's very little pokethrough, but raising the smoothing too much causes the clothes to explode into a mess.
    • The sweep morphs the coat has work after transferring to G3. However, the morphs only affect the lower part of the coat (below the pelvis) which makes posing... tricky (most fighting poses won't work with this).
    • I used SY Ultratemplates on the coat to see if I could move it better in order to pose it, but it has it's limitations (again, around the pelvis).
    • I didn't try Fit Control, but it might be able to help make the coat look like it's falling (or not glued to the torso).
    • Overall: good product, considering how old it is.

    will this work in DS4.9?

I know it may not work on G8. but will it still work on G3

As for the shoes, not my merit, they just transferred beautifully. Somehow Aiko3 outfits just transfers better than the V4 outfit. I wold have assumed the opposite, but nope.

It's weird. Might be a case-by-case, because for this outfit Fashionista had the A3 and the V3 versions. V3 transferred much better than A3 (less pokethrough), but the shoes didn't transfer well no matter which version I used. So one figure shows how they transfer. The other figures show what they look like parented instead.

FYI- You can use Wear Them All to get your stuff to G3 and then autofit from G3 to G8. Here's a few screenshots of the viewport, will post some renders soon. (I used V7 and P3D Duffy for V8 below:)

I was seriously just going to ask you about this! So, I'll need to fit the outfit to a G3 first. Then load a G8 figure and autofit by just switching who has the outfit? (Hopefully my question makes sense. Cause as soon as I wrote it I was like... huh?)
