mind you DAZ could just release a .car file for us ...... and Bryce format too, that would be the decent thing to do.
Pain is real when you get other people to believe in it.
If no one believes in it but you, your pain is madness or hysteria.
Naomi Wolf
Hysteria is caused by the womb Anatomical Elements roaming throughout the body. I imaginine that'd be pretty painful.
But not as painful as missing out on the encrypted specialty Daz Rainbow Unicorn 7 would be. I think I've fooled myself into believing I want my own fictional creation now o.o

I feel bad for the mods who are going to wake up and probably going to have to try and clean this mess up. We should all be super serious and well behaved.
Edit: I probably shouldn't speculate about whether the mods will think that they need to clean this mess up.
Sigh... I'm torn. I want to perform some technical tests with encrypted content. But I don't want to 'show support' for encryption by buying any. And this is just another one of the 'DAZ Free' items even if my PC+ Membership (Cancelled but still has time left) gives me the free purchase. So it would be buying it even if my payment came from back when I got my subscription. And so the only way to make sure my number is accurately represented is to not get this item. But for the record, it really does not improve my opinion of this DRM project when I have to give up on something I paid for just so someone can't use it to say that I support something I do not. When I asked about a free item for technical testing, I meant a truly free, no strings item. (So if you've got an Ultron around... I know there's no strings on him. :) )
edited to remove doubled post...
If you have uses for it, just grab it and send in a ticket saying you only accepted the free item in order to test the DRM for yourself, not because you accept it. Customer service is usually pretty fantastic.
Ultron was so incredibly disappointing
Wouldn't that be a morph for the Inflatable Pony 7?
I'd rather not skew their numbers. That's more important now.
it's not encrypted
the toll booth
it is connect only but normal duf and Poser files too!!!!
the cr2 loads fine in carrara
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/20788/file_list Well I'm confused.
Edit: nm, none of the encrypted items say anything about being encrypted in their readme files

ROTFL - evil plan: even Poser users have to install DS4.9 to get the encrypted POSER content, that once in a blue moon shows up here ... LOL
Did they forget to encrypt it ...?
I'm confused too. Install types in the product description say it is encrypted only. So how do I get it if I don't use DS4.9?
I'm assuming (especially looking at fool's install path) that there's no way to get it without 4.9.
Is any of the encrypted content actually encrypted? Not having any of the products it's hard to answer that part but the readmes are very confusing if they're lining up to what fool is seeing with the actual files for the toll booth.
You can't, without 4.9. And I am of course going to verify this and report it so it will probably be fixed presently.
the other things were file.duf.enc
this a normal duf and Poser legacy files
Well if its true then that means that their test is a complete washout. How will they know how many people realised it wasn't encrypted (if thats the case) and downloaded it knowing that?
Heh, now it's doubly useless for my main purpose. I'm not getting it while it shows encrypted only even if it isn't actually encrypted. And if it's not actually encrypted then there's no point in testing it. Looks nice and if they correct the download listing, I'll get it.
well I am happy I can use it in Carrara and Poser
even if DS4.9 needed to get it and connect
Thanks for the heads up. I grabbed it automatically, it didn't occur to me that a regular freebie would be Encryption only. And eff that.
Put in a ticket to take it out of my product library. NO THANKS
Since it apparently isn't actually encrypted it would be nice if DAZ would go ahead and change the install types so that those of us without DS4.9 (i.e. Poser and Carrara users as well as users of older versions) users. can get it.
They are already up and hard at work .... trust me.
Crap didn't see that it was encrypted totally useless to me
I do only have the public build + beta for what its worth
I use DS4.7 otherwise
It seems to be structured as a Poser item with DS sidecar files, so if it's meant to be encrypted rather than merely Connect-only then changing it might take a few minutes. But I have sent a query in.
I better copy paste it to my runtime then before I open DS 4.9 again
DAZ, you're pushing away a long time customer with this. I'm not going to mention how many products I bought from DAZ or how many pages my Product Library is, but my first purchase from DAZ was 5 Oct, 2000. (And I bought stuff from them before that when they were still part of Zygote.)
I just unticked the renewal box for my PClub membership. I really could have used that toll booth but I won't use DAZ Connect. I paid for the perk of getting a usable weekly freebie and DAZ setting it as DC/encrypted-only feels like a violation of the contract. It probably isn't a legal violation, but it is an ethical one to me. It'll be a while before my PC membership expires so please give me a reason to change my mind and set my account back to auto renewal.
DC screws up my organization. It saves everything to one spot, which I don't want. It forces things into categories I don't use. (I don't use the 'Smart' library in DS at all.) It's great that some people like it, but not everyone does and taking away customer options (like organizing content to fit a person's workflow) is not the way to go.
I don't like the encryption, either, as it stops me from fixing and customizing settings in files but I might even put up with that if I could bloody well keep my current content organization intact. DO NOT TELL ME I CAN MAKE A GAZILLION SHORTCUTS TO FAKE THINGS. I use several Runtimes to keep things sorted the way I need them. I regularly create and blow away Runtimes when I'm done with them. I have over 30 different folders for install files so I can easily find what I want to install. I don't remember products by name or vendor so looking through an alphabetical list is useless for me. Sorting through a list of what someone else considers fantasy vs. sci-fi or whatever is useless because I won't always agree with the 'official' selections. It would take days or weeks for me to tag all of my purchases so I could find them. (Over 15 years worth of purchases = lots of stuff to tag.)
I buy, I download directly into a categorized folder, I install to the correct Runtime and I'm done. (If the vendor did a lot of vanity folder garbage, I strip it out and resave the .zip so future installs are cleaner.) It's almost as fast as using DC but I don't have to spend a ton of time trying to figure out where DAZ thought my purchase should go then tagging, making shortcuts, etc. to get things in a semi-workable state.
Again, for those of you that like the new organization system - great. Mazel Tov. I'm unsarcastically happy for you. Just stop insisting that I'm an idiot or a Luddite because the system you like doesn't work for me. I don't consider you dumb for liking the new organization system so I'd appreciate the same level of respect in return.
Thanks.
DAZ isn't (to my knowledge) pointing a gun at the PAs telling them they have to post in the forums in favor of DRM, so there is nothing wrong with boycotting any PAs that have come out in favor of it. And even if it is out of their hands, boycotting PAs associated with DRM gives them a stronger incentive to complain to DAZ, refuse to sell future produicts to DAZ, move to a different storefront, etc. Yeah, it sucks, but the more stigma associated with DRM the better for consumers in the long run. It's not like we are obligated to buy anything from the DAZ store, nor are the PAs obligated to sell at this store.
What really boggles my mind is those of us that spend the most here at DAZ have the most to lose with this DRM. And suddenly those game developer licenses becme riskier propositions the more prevalent DRM becomes.
