Downloaded. Installed. Registered. Can open Reality standalone but it says "unconnected" and sure enough I don't see any Reality component in Daz Studio. Is there a trick to syncing them up? Some special folder Reality has to be in?

After you make your scene in Studio, Click the "Render" on the top toolbar. Then "Reality Render Editor", then Reality window will popup. From there you make your material settings and select what type of rendering settings you want. When you click the Render Frame button on the reality window, it exports your scene data to luxrender.Once the export is complete you can sontinue to work in Studio.Or you can choose to shutdown studio and reality, lux will continue to render your scene for you until you stop it.

Yes, that's what the guide says to do, but the reality is that there no "Reality Render Editor" option under the Render tab. The two aren't synced for some reason.

My experience with connecting was that I needed to register when I clicked on the Reality Editor, once I filled all that in and submitted it was fine after that!

it may not have been added to the toolbar, you can place it manually if need be.

It's pretty easy, let me know if you need help though.

How would I do that manually? And does Reality have to be in the Daz plugins folder like other plugins?  I sort of expected it to show up in the render panel much like Iray shows up along with 3Delight.

Reality *is* an actionable menu item if you're in the customization screen. That's what it adds to your Render menu at the very top.

I believe it also adds a keyboard shortcut automatically as well. Ctrl-Alt-Y I believe?

edit: If you're looking for something in the Render panel, I suggest Luxus...

Press "F3" or click Window>Workspace>customize on the top toolbar(screen shot 1)The tab on the left are the available tools. The tab on the right are the tools that have been put on a toolbar.

Scroll down the left side until you find "Reality for DS". Leave this open (screen shot 2).

On the right side click the "Menus" tab in the center.
Open the first entry at the top called "Main Menu".
Open the "Render" menu (screenshot 2)

drag the Reality entry from the left side that you see highlighted and drop it in the "Render" menu on the right.
    Press "Apply" then Press "Accept"

    .., and thats it. :)

hmmm, good question.I'm not sure..maybe mine is from an earlier version.I've been using it scince version 2.2 so maybe the icon came from one of those.

edit: Try this,,,on screen shot 2 you can right click on the reality entry in the left panel.Right click it and put a check mark next to "show text and icon" at the bottom. The UI should reload by itself then see if the icon is there.

I just have a few quick questions, since the product video implies that materials are converted to work in Luxrender. I'm using D/S on Windows.

    1. Can you use 3DL and iRay materials in the same scene?

    2. Can Reality's converted materials allow Poser-only materials to work in Studio? This may be a stupid question, but since it's converting the materials, it got me wondering.

  • IceCrMnIceCrMn Posts: 2,331

    1. Sure,,,,if something doesn't convert very well you can always change it in the materials panel.

    2. I don't have poser so I don't really have any poser only materials to try it out,,, but if it's a procedural shader that needs the renderer in Poser to work then it may not.

Thanks for the walk-through. The problem is there is no "Reality for DS" in the customize window. I think this must be an issue with where the program was installed. It was installed on the applications folder...working on a Mac here...and that was the default setting. There is a "Reality" folder in my plugins folder. Inside it is one item: Reality_DS64.dylib.

Thats basicly what I have on windows as well.I don't have a mac so I can't be of much help with the OS stuff on that one.

I  have installed R4.1 and Luxrender 1.5 and I ccan render in CPU accelerated mode, but if I try anything else it just sits at a black image and shows only 0 for Sp/s even tho the time is running.  i am posting a pic of my scene configuration which shows what type of GPU setup I have, can anyone tell me if this is incompatible with Reality? How do you uninstall reality completely for a fresh install as I did have R4 installed prior to the new version. I have a render running of Kings chamber with an overhead mesh light, see attached

I noticed myself that sometimes the SP will take some time in updating, but it does eventually.

sometimes it takes a few minutes for the render to show up in the viewport,,,give it about 5 minutes,,and see if it show up.Click the opencl rendering dot then you should be able to use the CPU ( slot #1 for you) and the GPU ( slot #3 for you) not sure about the intel card.

OK trying the openCL method as you suggested, will see what happens.  Also as I purchased and d;l through Daz when I installed I did not get a registration screen just a screen saying it is installed ,is this normal if you purchased through Daz?

Edit to add:  so the screen showed an image at about 2:48 minutes, but now says it's only using 2 devices and 2 threads instead of the 4 it said before, should I add in the intel card?  |It is the card built into the M/B

I got mine from the main site, so I'm not sure how daz handled the registration part. For me the first time I started it up it asked me to put in my registration info then it did mine automatically,,,eventually anyway,, I had to wait a bit because the first day was very busy and the authentication servers were swamped

Thats normal,,the CPU is 4 compute units in CPU only mode, each opencl device is counted as 1 compute unit reguardless of how may cores it has in opencl mode. That doesn't mean it's not using the full power of the device, just that it is counted as 1 device and not the seperate cores.

Thanks. I suppose I should try downloading some freebies with Poser materials and give it a try. There are a few products I'm interested that have Poser-only materials, so I was hoping Reality might provide a solution (short of buying Poser...). Even if not, I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of Reality.

So at the same 312.5 S/p it took about 21 minutes so almost a 1/3 to 1/2 less time to reach the same point I guess.  Thanks for the info about the devices

Hi, I 'm excited about this update. I think it is a great plugin. However I am having problems with the small light particles that appear. In a picture I took 10 kS / p (ten passes ) and not disappear. Ten passes! Acceleration feature is impressive. And I used the refine brush and light particles do not disappear. Any suggestions?

You may have a noisy light.

This is the fun part about luxrender :) .... On the light group tab, you can turn lights off one at a time until you find out which one is causing it.You do this while the render is still running :)  ,,,, if you only got one light then you might need to turn it up a bit to ge rid of them. They will mostly go away right in front of you as you adjust the lights (CPU mode maybe a bit slower at this than opencl mode).

"fireflies" are caused by the lights, reflective surfaces can make it a bit of a challenge at times to fix.I ran into this not long ago in a render I did for one of the monthly contests.

The really bright ones are from the lights, the smaller dull colored ones are from a a lack of convergence.Post a screen shot if can, then a few more people can see it and maybe offer some advise.
