Apparently in some countries they are "farmed" like we might farm cattle, for both milk and meat.
A classmate of my sister's was from a place where he had camels. He did mention that they are very vindictive, one does not abuse a camel! They hold grudges too.
Speaking of the animal kingdom . . . feral cats can be a force to be reackoned with. Just built a second cat room for a new batch/colony of ferals. The male/father blows my mind. Since trapped, neutered, flea treated, dewormed and ear clipped, he's been hiding in a cupboard for a month. Vet prescribed Gabapentin to knock him out so I could flea treat him (topical) a second time and reunite him with the other 3 kittens and their mom who have graduated from cages to a cat room.He ate all of the tuna and Gabapentin and is still a monster, hissin and snarling. But I remind myself other ferals, now domestic, were once like him, until we earned their trust. I installed a YI cam and resorted to a capstar pill crushed in food, and a cage trap luring him into him outside (sitting against an outside screen door). Crossing fingers and hoping we can reunite him without too much trauma. Truth is when it is all over, the cats forget and it's the humans that are more traumatized.
I believe you. Had to feed a semi-feral cat that a neighbour was looking after 'cause it moved into her house of open doors [for her cats and dogs]. Spent days using cat sign language to gain its trust enough so it would eat something before the dogs were let back in. Used the one eye at a time, no staring, lots of blinking and while it worked for the first week, the cat reverted after I left off taking care of it.
Ah, Victor Borge. Yes, Danish comedian Victor Borge was a very funny guy as well as a good pianist (when he wanted to be). Several comedic skits. But probably the most famous is his phonetic punctuation marks skit. Well, it was very funny in the '60s.

Blinking does work. It seems to be how they see us as safe . . . if we blink. But this doesn't mean the same things in humans because when I click on your video links, I blink, gape and laugh. Then I wipe my eyes, blink again, and wonder how the heck do you dig up this stuff? I blink in amazement. Cats blink out of trust.
Years ago somebody was visiting a rather foreign country and in their room she had a strong concern that they were being watched ... this was decades ago, the area of concern seemed to be around the television set. So they covered it. Before too long, unrequested "room service" appeared, removed the cover and placed a vase of flowers near it.
The socks - my MIL needs that. Unfortunately she never retains anything we say. She easily remembers an off hand comment by someone she's never met before and believes it as if it's gospel. We can say something until we're blue in the face, but five seconds later she's entirely erased the suggestion from her memory.
That's hard. I don't know if it would help or not, one thing I noticed when volunteering for services at a nursing home, was that singing/songs were retained better. Perhaps a few words to a familiar tune?

If you had ever heard my singing, you wouldn't suggest that torture on a hardened criminal, let alone to inflict it on an innocent, elderly person.
