...⬆ meanwhile, in Wisconsin, "schools will open 2 hours late." ⬆
...
lol. i was just thinking if the global birth rate has declined cuz of the social distancing.
..well we officially got our warning here in Portland tthis afternoon:
The forecasts in north Arkansas (where we just moved) have been saying for at least a week that starting today/Wednesday of this week and into next week, lows would ranged from <10 to 20F & highs in the teens to 20s. This past Saturday evening what was supposed to be regular rain turned into light snow.
Woke up this morning to a Winter Weather Alert for north & central Arkansas for Wednesday & Thursday that includes "Areas of freezing rain. Accruals of ice over a quarter inch thick are possible."
Not liking one bit... Every morning for the past 1.5 weeks the temperature has been close to -20C (-4F) and the same is predicted at least until the weekend, although it's still better than the -30C (-22F) they were threatening with two weeks ago...
its -29C here, with windchills of -41C...
I can send you a bottle of +19F if you think it would help.
....after we get our taste of real winter, guess where it will be heading.
Well, if you're not interested in bottles of my +19F air, then maybe you might consider boxing up and shipping some of your -29C air to sites around the world to keep Covid vaccine cold.
Donations would be the sporting thing to do, but with the price of shipping these days you'd probably be better off advertising cold air for sale, or auction, or perhaps have a raffle?
well.. that is warmer.. supposedly we'll be a balmy -17C by Saturday.. which will certainly feel warmer
we could ship by Polar Vortex Express
the news said there was a 100 car pile up in Ft Worth.
snow and ice storm scheduled for today. ice accumulations >.<
Update: we didn't get nearly as much ice, thankfully, as forecast for Thursday.
BUT, a Winter Storm Warning was issued that very day for this coming Sunday & Monday. 3-6" snow. That is heavy for this state. Wind chills below zero Fahrenheit through Tuesday.
Glad they finally got the propane tank for Brand New Heater installed & filled this morning. This Florida native is sitting inside wearing a tee & leggings as opposed to 2 or 3 layers.
Looks like the -20C+ mornings (Thermometer readings) will be over here too, in the SW coast of Finland... But still expecting that it takes at least two months before the snow is gone
...went for a walk about the neighbourhood early this morning in the snow before it turns to freezing rain later today. Roughly about 5" of snow fell in the city centre would have been more if it was colder earlier on Thursday . Right now (12:20 west coast time) actually getting fairly light out almost as if the sun might break through.
LRT and Street Trams not running for now. and all the coffee shops are closed.
Don't know about the global situation, but today they told they need to open new maternity wards in the capitol due to the boom expected next summer
Not speaking for the whole world, but according to this article there was no baby boom in China. Presumably, the earliest lockdown would have 'born fruit' by now, so to speak.

Unusual weather here in Corpus Christi, Texas. Expecting an ice storm. Rare here.
...beginning to remind me a bit of the winter of 76-77 when there was snow as far south as Miami and Puerto Rico.
That might have been the year I went SCUBA diving in northern Florida at Ginnie Springs. A whole group of us, camped out near the main dive hole. On a beautiful Florida day, late in the afternoon we went diving in perpetually 72F (22.2C) degree, sparkling clear spring water for a half hour or more, deep into the cavern. Had a great time. Afterwards we came up and bobbed our heads above the water surface and we had snow falling on our heads. We looked like those Japanese monkeys that winter in the warm springs. Reminds me of the line in The Wizard of Oz where the lion says "Unusual weather we're havin' ain't it?" So we gathered our gear and trudged off to our tents, peeled off our wetsuits and hung them on a clothesline strung between two trees. The next morning we had another dive scheduled but our wetsuits were frozen stiff.
and there was an inch or so of snow on the ground, in Florida.
Also, the big giant spider webs that hung between the trees were covered in a thin layer of snow. Very unique looking.
I tried to get a photo of them but later, after the film was developed, I discovered that my mechanical camera didn't like cold weather and the shutter wouldn't open when cold.
But determined to dive again, we carried our board-like frozen wetsuits to the spring and dipped them in the 72F water to thaw them before attempting to get into them while wet and cold.
yep, really wintery weather here in Dallas also. Already 5 inches of snow and will still be coming down thru the night, glad I am off tommorrow. I am more worried about the cold, low of 7 tonight, don't remember is ever getting that cold. I never use my fireplace, but God forbid the power goes out, I'll be buring some furniture, LOL
...coldest temperature I remember since moving here to Portland was 12°F (-11°C) in 1990 The winter before that it was even colder 9°F (-13°C) The coldest recorded temperature on record in the city occurred way back in 1888 when it was -2°F (-19°C)
The heaviest snow I experienced here was in 2008 when Portland got around 18" from a double barrelled storm that hit just before the holidays. The heaviest amount from a single storm was 16." four years ago. The heaviest snowfall here on record was a whopping 39.5" back in January of 1943.
Got roughly 10 inches here, +/-. But, the snowblower won't start. One more thing to try tomorrow if it's not raining yet, then I guess I just wait for it to melt before I can get out. Don't have to be anywhere for about a week, but I'm not sure how long it will take to melt to the point of being passable with the car. Nervous because of that, but also happy to run around in the snow a bit since it is rarer out here to have this much.
That is a lot of snow. My Dad worked on the railroad here in Newfoundland, and there were scenes like that. In recent years there is a big decrease in snow.
You don't need a plow for that, your car will do just fine
I have a 15 year old small Opel/Vauxhall Astra and the only part of my 50+ yard driveway I clear, is the small hill before getting to the "big" road.
...well we may finally be out of the worst here in Oregon. The sun actually peeked out several times this morning/early afternoon and it's warmed up significantly (currently 49°F).
Still pretty frigid in Austin (currently 26°F) the next couple days, but by the next week will warm up into the 60s & 70s. Wish we'd get a warmup like that here but likely not until April at the earliest.
WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches possible
>.< never gonna melt off at this rate. snowed in is better with pizza
