Got a weirdness here, now that I've had time to install the new version and try it out.

Creating a new hair set on a figure (it's a Melody A3-based character wearing a tiger texture), I've set up the follicle groups apparently correctly, adjusted the style of the guide hairs so they look OK, checked that the hair is set to pick up the figure's texture maps, exported and rendered...

... and the hair comes out white, with the tiger pattern skin texture faintly visible through it.

I've tried some of the Genesis hair presets from the LaMH website, and I've tried the hairy RAW Sasquatch, all of them render looking great. But when it comes to building up a new set... I've read through the manual, I think it's set up properly, but I must be missing something somewhere. Any ideas?

2 things. When creating a fur/hair that you want to mirror the textures for, the easiest thing to do is to have the textures loaded before loading the figure into the LAMH UI. However, it that was not done, then load the textures in DS, then apply the LAMH preset. THen in the pane, make sure that the button for "mapped" is set to "yes"

Secondly, the lighting will matter. When using the "generic" DAZ lights with the Human Hair Shader, you will need to make the specular color darker. This is not necessary with the more advanced lights like Uber

Had a quick question for the hair maker boi's.

Does this update make it easier to make smooth curls or waves with perhaps the tips tighter? I ask this because I'm in the middle of building my very first figure in ZBrush. I had terrible results with Fiberhair and now am in the middle of building a transmapped wig for him.

Being a hairdresser for a living I know how longer curly hair works on allot of folks. The longer it is at the root it's less curly/wavy but as one follows the hair shaft down to the tips the hair picks up more and more of the curl/wave and usually the ends have the tightest curl/wave formation.

    Thanks

For curls, make sure that your hair points are much higher than default. Also, increase the length. That will help a lot.

There are more new features coming to LAMH very very soon that will make styling human long hair much easier.

Thanks Kendall. Yea, Pan's hair will be shoulder length.

As in real life, the hair needs to be longer "length" to account for the curls' not falling straight down. I would recommend that you get the guides into the shape you desire *before* you set the curl slider.

We have the new manual. BTW, it is being updated as we speak to cover more features of LAMH that were overlooked in the released manual.

As far as video tutorials on curls and such... I don't think any are available yet.

Have a quick question. Will the fiberhair and LAMH in general work with DAZ Octane plugin?

    Thanks

Yes. The LAMH fiberhairs work great in octane.

This is with a pre-created, morphed and textured figure, all ready to render. All I'm doing is adding the LaMH groups and double-checking that all the relevant settings show the textures have been picked up and are being used. I've even checked the Surfaces tab back in D|S itself, and the Root and Tip settings have the proper texture applied.

I'm using a multi-spot Uber light set, only the key light casting raytraced shadows. Doesn't seem to make a difference whether or not I darken specular, I can see the hair colours on the edges of the figure and they're white. Away from the edges, the tiger stripe pattern is clearly if fuzzily visible through the hair. I've also tried switching the hair to Standard Shader, again no difference.

I wasn't exactly sure where to post for help and the forum search didn't bring up a dedicated "support" thread, so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot.

The one giving me the most trouble at the moment is the new Cat World LAMH presets. I'm having trouble saving any scene with this LAMH item in it. I also cannot open the LAMH salon and save anything created or modified using that interface with this CW set. Scenes without LAMH in them save and load normally. Scenes with CW figures without the LAMH preset save and load normally.

I can load LAMH items / presets. I can render them. I just cannot save them or any scene with them in it. If I try to save them, it's an instant CTD. Every. Time.

    OSX 10.6.8
    DS 4.6.2.117
Full LAMH plugin (not the player) installed 1.5.0.0

I have both the MAC crash file and the DS log file available.

I'm sure it's something simple, and it's probably user error, but any and all help is greatly appreciated. :)

Hello, please forward the logs at: devel_at_look-at-my-hair.com (replace _at_ with @)

We'll take a look at what's going on and report. Also, could you please send a scene .duf, so that we can eventually replicate with the exact items you got? Thanks a lot for the cooperation.

Done, but I posed a question in the email about the scene .duf file (if I cannot save the scene, how do I get you this file?). Please let me know.

    Thanks!

You are right, sorry for not being precise. Actually, if you could just list the items used, or make a screenshot of the DS Scene Pane, that'd be great. Thanks.

I have run into a reproducible crash-to-desktop with LAMH. DS 4.6.1.33 64-bit Windows with LAMH 1.5.0.0.

Specifically, if I try to import an object into LAMH that is a child of a Studio 'group' node, Studio crashes to desktop. If I unparent the object, LAMH imports just fine. This has happened with EVERY object I've tried, not specific to one object (though I initially noticed it with Sickle's Bolero from her winter freebie, that I want to create proper fur for the trims).

I can also reproduce this with a new scene.

    Start Studio
    Add clothing object
    Launch LAMH
    Import object
    Success

    Start Studio
    Add studio Group node
    Add clothing object
    Parent object to Group node
    Launch LAMH
    Import object
    BLAMO Crash to desktop

Happens ever time for me. Do this happen to anyone else?

Ok, this is an issue: we'll fix it on next patch. As a temporary workaround, try to parent Scene items after that have been furred with LAMH.

Reducing the number of points will make the situation worse, not better.

After you've got the hair about how you like it, set the locking relatively high and then comb out the "bad ends". Another possibility is to make the hair slightly longer than you intend and then snip off the "bad ends" just as a hair dresser would remove split ends.

    Kendall

I'll give it a shot. I'm not confident. But I'll try it. :)

    Thanks, Kendall.

Let me try to make a hairstyle like that, and see if can help.

Out of curiosity, has there been any victory with your attempt on this?

Just to clarify, is the clothing dynamic or conforming?

And if it's conforming it's conformed AND parented?

Hi Alessandro, I'm afraid I'm stumped.

I've been digging in to LAMH for days, now, trying to come up with something like this:

    http://jemstone.deviantart.com/art/Alice-and-Sara-Scrap-24413435

Long, straight, middle part, with a hard angle up from the breastbone to a short back (the one on the left). Undercut buzz at the rear is optional. So the hair goes from center-chest height, up over the shoulders, and up to the nape of the neck/base of skull at the back.

I have played with comb size and intensity. I have messed around with tapering, spherizing, tilting, and the like.

I cannot, for the life of me, get the hair to do what I want it to.

Combing as instructed in the reference materials, I always end up with little jaggy ends and bends - I've even reduced the number of points severely to try and combat it, and I get the same effect: somewhere near the end of the hair, it jags up and goes weird.

Maybe I'm just missing something? (Or maybe I'm just dumb?) But I'm having the worst time getting this to go. I've checked out the presets on the site, and while a few are close, none of them are close enough to what I want for me to feel like I could easily (or safely) modify them.

So I'm reaching out here in hopes you can give me some pointers.

    Thank you. :)

first of all, i'd start by turning symmetry on. I'd make probably 4 hair groups, one for the top to back hair, one each for the sides, and one for the fringe. I'd put at least 30 points in the hair group. I brush the hair down, and turn off occlusion, and pull the hair out of the head, turn occlusion back on. I then turn on point locking about 40-50 percent (the locking slider. Then i brush the hair down and smooth it closer to the body. Due to the levels on the head the hair won't be the same length, so I will use the cntrl button and mouse, and shorten the longer ends to match up with the shorter. smooth again, repeat maybe 5-6 times. repeat for both sides. Fringe is a bit more tricky, using y to curve a little before combing, and again smoothing, and shortening. I don't cut, EVER. Seriously. I just don't. It takes more work to fix after cutting hair than it does to shorten and smooth and grow all and repeat. :)

Doing that you can get hair like i got here:
Hair, grass, cat ears and tail fur, and squirrel fur were all made using LAMH.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH i just realized I misunderstood, silly me thought they were same person in that sketch, one showed front and one showed back. This style isn't too hard and I can definitely do that! Probably sunday, soonest. :D woot, i love that style btw. Had a hair cut similar to it, tho a bit shorter. just past my collar bone in front, and then up to just past the nape of my neck in back, with it cut very short there. :)

Twins can be confusing like that, no apologies necessary. :)

If you could help me out, I'd be really grateful. I'll still use your previous example if I can grab some time to fiddle with it this weekend. I'd like to learn how to do it myself, but I'll take any examples, pointers, "Here's what I did now you do it" and the like I can get.

I did manage to get something *close* to what I want using Garibaldi last night, but I'd like to be able to do it in both systems if possible (I also had trouble getting Garibaldi long enough for what I want - but as far as pixie bobs went it was adorable).

Thank you ever so much. :)
