Let's say I manage to get the hair I'm after, and it's fantastic and I want to give it to other people. Are there save-as options that would enable me to do this (as an .obj or sommat)? Are there any Imperia... I mean, legal entanglements that I'd need to be aware of?
You could save and share the hair preset (save to .lmh, which is available from the interface), or you can save the figure and hair attached as Scene->Subset, so that you will end up having a .duf (that you can share) containing both model and hairs.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for."
I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I see a lot of 'presets' available from LAMH's website free for the clicking, so that is how you distribute hair sets you make. But I, too, would like to know if I wanted to sell presets I had laboured meticulously over, are there any issues or concerns we should be aware of? (Stormtroopers knocking on my door? Imperial Star Destroyers hovering over my house?) :gulp:

Sa-Wheet. Thank you.
And I second Gogger's concern about running afoul of the business end of a blaster ("No disintegrations!"), thus my question about distribution legalities. I'm not looking to sell (at least not yet, if ever), but I know that there very well may be people who might like to have something like what I'm after.
Presets created with LAMH are yours to do what you will with. We can put them on the free presets site, or you can put them at ShareCG, or you can sell them if that is what you wish to do.
This is excellent news indeed. I just purchased the full version yesterday and it would crash whenever implemented. Soon as I get to my server at home I'll have to give her a whirl! During the uninstall of the old version, would you all recommend I delete the registry entries also? The feature list looks incredibly delicious!

Thank you for the prompt and efficient reply, Kendall. Cheers!
I've to say that LAMH makes me feel extremely stupid. I can work with Garibaldi hair plugin but I never seem to get anything to show up other than plenty of crashes with LAMH. I tried the original version and updated version and I even have a new computer and I seem to get plenty of crashes but nothing to show up in the DS. Not even if I try to follow the pdf instructions.
Could someone enlighten me where the heck I go wrong:
1. I choose create new 'look at my hair object' --> opens editor
2. I paint the hair area (follicles I think)
3. I click the grow guide hairs
4. ???
After growing the guide hairs I can find all kinds of settings to define width and and shader but no setting that says "grow this frikken hair on the figure in daz studio". Sure I can export it to fibermesh but I don't think that's the idea? How do I force the sync between these two? I can't seem to find anything like the sync button that was in the manual. Not in previous version or this one?

See the attached images: you need to click the export button that will allow to export to RenderMan (thus 3Delight hair).
From that moment on, if you pose Genesis, LAMH viewport will be synced automatically.
Admittedly I haven't had a lot of time to play with LAMH, but I'm tinkering with it when I can. My biggest issue right now is combing and styling, as it seems a little counter intuitive to me. I'm sure I'll get it eventually.
I have wondered if we might somehow get a "basic styler" function on the plugin, so that rather than spherizing everything, I could grow my hair to where I want it, then click "basic straight hair" and have it fall into place. Maybe that's crazy. Not sure.
Alessandro, I opened a bug over on the LAMH forums with a question about something else, dunno if you've seen it or have any input on it. I'll check on that one later. :)

Yes I've seen the feature you required. It has already been implemented in current WIP development version.
Please let me know what difficulties you are having combing, and more about the basic styler you'd like to see in LAMH. You may eventually want to address this to my email or in LAMH forums as well.

Hi,
I have installed the latest beta and have a few questions.
- How can I undo a change? In 1.0 it was Alt-Z I think, but that doesn't work anymore, nor does Ctrl-Z.
It is very difficult to learn to use the plugin without documentation by trial and error if you cannot undo your errors :)
- The plugin saves to c:/users/.../Documents/...
I do not keep Poser and Daz stuff there (my C drive is nearly full) . My Daz stuff is in a sub folder on my D: Drive. Is there a way to get the plugin to save in another directory?
- How do I reopen LAMH to continue editing after loading a character with hair on it?
- I really really could use some documentation and really really really could use some movies showing how to use the plugin for hair. Preferably while someone talks and explains what is going on. When do you expect to produce documentation ?
- Could you list which keyboard shortcuts there are? (It would be nice to have them available somewhere in the user interface)
A wish: I have a 3d connecion space mouse, and feel really lost because it does not work in the plugin, only in daz and poser. Please consider adding support for it.
I must say that the beta is much MUCH better than 1.0. It really looks like a very useful tool, I just have a bit of problems figuring out how to use it :)

Hello Heran, apologies for not having the new manual and videos available yet. It's my fault, I am behind those and I yet have to finish them. Incoming week I'll make sure they'll be available.
- Undo/redo, please see attached image. Those two buttons perform those tasks.
- the plugin still propose to save in Documents/lookatmyhairAM/presets; however, we are already working on letting the user set a preferred location. That will come right after 1.5
- about the 3D mouse support, we're still evaluating to add support for it.
- about the available shortcuts, due to 'popular demand', we've tried to get all controls available in the interface (clickable), and in fact you should see that there is also a vertical toolbar that includes several new helpers. So for example, there are no more shortcuts for undo's: however, to maintain some compatibiity with 1.0, you can still:
< SPACEBAR >: Toggles the heads up display on. Release it to toggle the display off.
ALL modes:
< LMB > on canvas and drag to rotate the camera.
< RMB > and drag to pan the camera.
< WHEEL > to zoom in or out.
FOLLICLE mode:
< LMB > on model: triggers follicle on (or off if < SHIFT > is pressed). Drag the mouse to trigger more follicles on the fly.
< ALT >< LMB >: rectangular marquee tool. Drag the mouse to define the area; when released all the follicles in the area will be selected (or deselected if < SHIFT > is pressed).
STYLING mode:
< LMB> and drag to move selected hair points.
< SHIFT >< LMB > to cut selected hair points.
< CTRL >< LMB > and drag to scale up or down selected hair points.
PAINT mode:
< LMB > and drag to paint density on.
< SHIFT >< LMB > and drag to paint density off.
See the attached images: you need to click the export button that will allow to export to RenderMan (thus 3Delight hair).
From that moment on, if you pose Genesis, LAMH viewport will be synced automatically.
Thank you! I knew I missed something but wasn't sure what. I'm sure this was mentioned in the pdf but I still somehow manage to miss it... I wonder if I'm developing dyslexia! :blank:

No problem, and as I just wrote, is my fault. I planned to have the new documentation and tutorials ready by now, and I'm still behind those.
If you guys need any help just let me know, don't get mad at trying.
Thanks for the answers, I am looking forward to the documentation and tutorials :)

Its fine that all the controls are available in the interface, but I think its a bad idea not to have keyboard shortcuts for the most important ones as well. Especially the ones that you may chose while working with the figure such as undo. This is because that it is something you often want to do if you make a wrong brush stroke.
WIth a keyboard shortcut you can undo the stroke without moving the mouse away from the figure then try a new brush stroke.
Withoutit, you have to move the mouse away and click undo, and then move the mouse back then retry the stroke..
Please reconsider this decision.
I have one more questionr: How do I enter LAMH again after loading a model with hair? For instance, I have saved a scene with a figure with hair, and when I load the scene I can see the hair in the DAZ Studio user interface. How do I get the user interface up for the plugin again?
Thanks for the answers, I am looking forward to the documentation and tutorials :)

We'll see how to implement the ctrl-Z shortcuts (actually on LAMH 1.0 you'd have used alt-Z, because ctrl-Z triggered the Studio undo too).
About re-opening LAMH interface, it's easy: did you dock LAMH Pane in Studio? If so, there is a 'show LAMH Editor' button there.
I am normally using poser, and am just using DAZ for your plugin, so I know very little about DAZ Studio.
How do I dock LAMH? When I create hair I get a new window with the LAMH UI, and I cannot figure out how to dock that in Studio.
Sorry for the stupid questions, they may partly be because I am a total DAZStudio newbie :)
I would gladly pay for the plugin again if you make a Poser plugin!
Oh, I have one more question: I have tried some of the presets and some are split in several groups like "left" and "right". When I export those I get one obj file for each group. Is there a way to combine all the hair into one obj file?

First open the LAMH pane (menu Window->Panes->Look at my Hair). When the pane is up, just drag it to the left or right Studio panels (for example below the Scene or Content Library pane header): it will dock there so that you can find and access it much easily.
About the .obj files, actually there should be 1 OBJ for each shavegroup, and each OBJ is even rigged containing groups, making it easy to even make it a conforming figure/prop.
Okay... I am a little stuck right out of the gate. My browser can't seem to open the website to register...www.xn gm studio x79d.net LAMH activation.aspx
Is the site down or did I get something wrong?
Should I use something besides Google Chrome?
Hi, it works for me from here. Eventually, if it doesn't for you, email me the Serial Number and Installation Code, and I will email you back the activation key. My email is [email protected] (replace _at_ with @)
My browser opened the website after I installed the plugin (I got it a long time ago but did not have time to install it and play with it until recently)...
I cannot make a new Look At My Hair object to GET the Activation code.

Yes. Please uninstall the player, later on install the 1.0 version or, just go directly for the latest Release Candidate here:
Once you download the LAMH version for your system and the resource zip files, you need to unzip those in /Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/plugins/ , overwriting existing contents.
Figured out to export to obj and import it into poser.
Here is a 3 minute render of one of the LAMH presets with Octane Render, it looks pretty good I think.
Unfortunately the object has so many polygons that Poser is very slow (the obj file is 150 k).
Hopefully I can turn down some of the settings and still get a good result.
I used the Fibermesh export and "Young Blonde" setting with a compression on 5.
