So I'm probably going to end up with two shader versions of David - one that's darker complected and somewhat "redder", and a paler one with less details. The paler one has separate SSS maps and the darker one uses the regular color maps. Anyway, I'll throw something together soon so you can make them up for yourselves.
Although I know a few people have posted saying they have problems getting GenX working, it is not as difficult as it sounds, and certainly easier than many other technical challenges with using Daz Studio. I would encourage people to try to get it working.
Below is David 5 converted to G3M, stood next to the original David 5. They are not identical, but are very similar. Both figures are using David 5s original skin. I also like using old content, but if you look at the bends around the shoulder (and the elbow) of the original D5, then it illustrates how I prefer to use old content on newer figures, rather than the other way round.
I would love to get it working but I'm confuzzled right from the start pretty much. I need to find some in-depth tutorials or something. I can't imagine saving a Genesis character that's never going to be used in Poser as a .cr2 can't possibly still apply with GenX2. Maybe I'm missing something. I need to read over everything and then find more stuff on the subject.

Its a lot easier when the source and destination are both Genesis figures. You select Genesis as the source, G3M as the destination, then select the morphs you want to move over. No CR2s needed!
The problem I seem to be having at the moment is that I can't select anything. LOL There's nothing there to select. It's maddening. I need to devote some more time to it to figure out why I'm not getting anything at all to transfer.
The plugin is installed and it is registered. I might need to re-install the addons. Do they need to go in the DS folder too? Because right now I think those are in the content folders.
Laurie
Edit: Well, reinstalling the addons did nothing. I have DS and the content folders on different drives and GenX2 probably isn't finding anything. I don't know how to MAKE it find anything either ;). I have to have my folders set up this way though because my C: drive is an SSD and is only so big, so I keep content elsewhere. So lost...lol.
I've had the same problem. I transferred a bunch of Genesis 2 and quite a few V4's but I couldn't get anything to select for M4. I transferred Giselle 6, and then when I went to transfer Stephanie 6 and Olympia 6, I couldn't get anything to show up. I've been putting off updating DS because I want to transfer all of my previous generations to Genesis 3, and I haven't been able to find out if 4.11 breaks GenX.
I installed GenX and all the plugins with DIM. In the GenX pane, what happens when you click the Source button in the top left corner in the Transfer sub tab?
You should see a drop down list offering Genesis, plus all the other Genesis figures you own plugins for.

Thanks Havos. Yes, I do see the drop down. But then comes the part of selecting them, and they don't select or something else happens (which I can't remember). But tell me: Does GenX still work with 4.11?

There's nothing there (or I should say it's grayed out). And I had to install GenX2 manually because it didn't even show up in Install Manager *shrug*. Gremlins ;).
I get a whole lotta nothing. No Genesis, nothing newer and nothing older. LOL Blank. I do get the GenX2 tab tho. But it's sorta useless to me at the present ;).

I have not used 4.11 yet, but I have not heard there are any problems with it. I do know however that when using the beta the GenX plugin needs to be reinstalled so that the relevant dll files are installed into the beta location too.

If it is blank you have got something screwed up with the install. Is GenX installed in the same location as the main Genesis, G2F, G2M etc base figures? It should also be in the same place as where V4 and M4 are installed.

Well, my DS install (the beta in my case - and that is where GenX2 is currently installed) and my content folders are on two different drives, so, no. They aren't installed in the same place ;). They can't be...well, not unless I install DS to the drive that has just my content on it, which wouldn't really be efficient since my SSD is faster and DS is currently installed there. I don't have any problems with any other plugin I've got. Just this one *sigh*.

It should work fine when the content is not on your c drive, nor does it matter if it is on the same drive as where DS is installed. However GenX must be installed in the same location as the base figures (ie all the Genesis essential packages) I also do not use the standard DS install location.

Ok, now THAT makes sense. I must have the base packages installed to 4.10 ;). I'll install GenX to 4.10 and use it there and see what happens. LOL.
Oh wow...no. He just doesn't look the same. I'll deal with the inferior bends. LOL
There are some other things worth bringing over to a newer figure tho :)
Laurie
Did you remember to dial in Genesis as well? The figures are a delta to the orginal shape, So to get D5 you need to dial in Genesis and D5 at 100%. I did find that the D5 looked less buff than the original, as well as his pecs being a bit smaller, so I dialled in a tiny bit of other morphs to make him look closer to the original, but I did not change the head at all.

Yes, I did do all that. He looked....doughy. LOL Too smooth. GenX has worked for some of my monsters and aliens from G1 tho ;).
Well I managed to get David 5 transferred over to G3M but I can't find a product to use his skin UVs. I also tried to transfer Michael 6 but he had strange ridges protruding from his eye sockets. Did them both the same way so no idea what's wrong with him.

I have made one of Michael 5 now :D
Honestly I was never really taken with Mike 5, but he looks really good here :).

No reason someone else can't get some help...seems a lot of us are struggling with this plugin ;)

Great. At least you can try and play with it now.
Thanks Havos for the answer, and thanks, AllenArt, for the tenacity (to not give up like I had done).
Thank you for all your help :)

The only videos I've found on youtube deal with bring M4V4 up to later figures. But there is a thread here...

Under the replies by @Bunyjp02_Carrara there are two links to tutorials that seem pretty good to me.

This is what you need to get David 5 skin onto G3M

I picked it up for 1.99 as a PC+ item of the day back in October.
