Ok, I think I have the skin nailed down to final. It'll take me a little while to gather up the stuff I changed from Edward's shader and give you guys the differences. But I will :). Good news is you won't need to make new maps...you can use David's full color maps in the translucency color. You may or may not want to clone those baked in wrinkles in his forehead out of the texture if your skills allow. I did, but you don't have to if they don't bother you. I also created a translucency mask for his eyebrows and put it in Translucency weight. You don't HAVE to ;).

I have Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 clones for Genesis. On David, most clothes look pretty darn good, even Genesis 8 clothing (G8 clothes have to be converted to G3 first). I've tried just about every type of stuff on him from hair to body hair to clothes. He can wear a LOT of newer stuff. Bonus :). Even in these images he's wearing hair from G8, body hair and eyebrows from G3 and shorts from G2. LOL

Also, my images for David are using Raiya's eye textures from her Sean for David 5 character. David's default eye textures are...meh ;). Sean's were really pretty, so I used those. I'm also using Chevybabe's Natural Eyes shader on them with a few very small tweaks to account for differences in the geometry. I won't give you the shader info for those. Use them if you have her shader. If not, use Edward's. :)

The images were rendered in white light at 6500 kelvin EXCEPT the rim to his left side. It's very slightly blue. Even the HDRI is a studio setup that is only black, white and shades of gray.

Instructions that hopefully make sense coming soon...lol.

Laurie, I love what you've done to David's skin.  Maybe DAZ should hire you to update some of the older characters.

This is a great idea. You've done beautiful work with David. Here's my first attempt with Michael 6. He still needs a bit more work.

Yes, Mike 6 is next on my list. Another face that's timeless ;) The poor boys get so little attention...lol.

    Beautiful render!! Love the outfit.

Laurie, is there any way you could make a product from this? I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

@Ildanach  Beautiful!  How do you get the translucency on the ears?  I try different setting and lighting and my ears continue to look solid, I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Spruced up some old Multi-Cyclo-panes to Iray and added some new prop and saved them as presets to make huge 4600 x 2600  background for my magic pane props set.   :)

I know, right?! As cute as some of the newer guys are, most of them can't hold a candle to Mike 6 and David 5 (they have the best 3D backsides in Dazdom, not to mention the faces...lmao).

Thanks @Kharma. To show the translucency on the ears there's a light behind the characters head ;-)

Thanks Laurie. M6 is one of my all time favourite figures. I'd love to be able to figure out GenX to get M6's head on M8's body ????

I'm loving your results with David. I might have to try him next, I used to love that figure too.

I would love to be able to figure out GenX as well...I've had it for a long time but can't seem to bend it to my will. LOL

And yes, M6 is one my faves too. I still use him quite a bit, considering I have a plethora of newer figures :P. Some characters just have longevity I guess ;).

And just another sneak of David. I couldn't post the original cause he was only wearing his birthday suit ;) (the original is in my Deviant Art gallery tho). The pose is a G2M pose. Also finally got fed up and fixed those flip flop tan lines on his feet. LMAO.

Wow, just took a look at it on Deviant Art.  You've done an incredible job! The skin textures, pose and lighting are all fantastic. Really impressed!!

I've had GenX for ages now but can't figure it out lol. Need to get it working to bring M6 and D5 to at least G3. One of these days.

I think there are a few threads around the site that explain it in more detail by folks more technically inclined than I am....lol. If I have time I'll have a look and see what I can find out ;). I really would like to use it, even if I am mostly happy with how each generation performs on its own. Hehe. Would be nice tho to try and duplicate my favorite older figures on a newer rig with newer skins.

    Oh, and thanks :)

I might try and have another go with GenX tomorrow. Did you say you had G8 clones for David 5 and G2? Can I ask where you got them? Can't find any in the store here.

I actually do not have Gen 8 clones for Genesis, but I just convert the clothes and hair to G3 first and it's an easy process from there because I have Genesis 3 clones (and Genesis 2 clones as well). Hair is drop dead simple. All you have to do is designate it as Genesis 3 hair and Bob's your uncle ;). Clothes are a bit more work, but not much and if you have Riversoft Art's converter it's REAL easy ;). So, I don't even think Genesis 8 clones are even really necessary at this point. So far David has been able to wear more stuff than any other figure I've got (and it looks better). Go figure.

I only have Genesis 3 clones for Genesis 2 as well.
