Complaint:  Rain!  Memorial Day weekend!  sad

Non-Complaint:  Yesterday before the rains came I got to the flea market and found a beautiful little (3"x8"x1") antique etched crystal and mirrored-bottom display case for $6 that is perfect for some little translucent semi-precious gems, rocks and gemish type things I want to dig out of storage and display.  Now I need to find a tiny bright light to shine into the case to highlight the colors of the items. yes

'Nother non-complaint:  On the way back from the flea market I stopped at a garage sale and found a pair of black, size 12, Harley-Davidson lace up, & side zipper, motorcycle boots, practically new, for $30, and I know they cost about $200 new.  I wear size 12 and I need new boots for the winter so it was a no brainer!  Yea!  Easy on, easy off, waterproof, arch supports, room for heavy socks.  Happy happy! smiley

No rain for months here think we're looking at a very dry spring unless something flips our way :)

Send me a big bottle and I'll ship some of our excess your way.

Oops, just noticed that I don't know if it's the front end or back end of summer.  Corrected "Memorial" to "Labor".  (*blush*) blush

I'm already over budget for this month and I have 2 and a half weeks to go before my check is deposited, but I made one last trip to the fruit market in the next town to get a half watermelon, a half cantalope, three big ripe peaches, some sweet corn, and an ice cream sundae.  New mantra:  Must conserve cash, must conserve cash, must conserve cash.  That means no DAZ purchases either. frown

  • I don't know the history of the song "House of the Rising Sun" but when I lived in Washington DC back in the '80s & '90s we had a friend who was a DJ who called himself "Jimmy Jam" who claimed he was the current owner of the copyright to that song and got a little money everytime somebody legally played it.  He later relocated to NYC and I haven't heard of him since.  Jimmy was also a poet and had a book of his poems published.  I have a copy of it here somewhere.

Your friend was lying. smiley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_the_Rising_Sun

I would think that would make it more interesting because you could concentrate on the beat and tone and wouldn't be aware of the ridiculous plot and the mastication of the language. frown  Kind of like opera! cheeky

Q: How do you tell when the opera is over?

A: When the fat lady screeches.

I'll say no more on the subject because I don't want to insult anyone.  There would be no good will that would come out of that.

Of course we could compare it to Vogon poetry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxPeIiU2kx4 surprise  Or Klingon opera.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwhBUSB1iXg devil

Also, the Russians are quite proud of their poets and poetry.  I was curious to see what all the fuss was about, so in my process of learning Russian I delved into learning a couple of poems.  I spent quite a lot of effort in learning to fluently read and recite and then to recite from memory two Russian poems.  One by Aleksander Pushkin, "Зимний Вечер" (Zeemny Veetcher) "Winter Evening", and the other by Michail Lermontov, "Молитва" (Mo-leet-va) "Prayer".  The second one is the poem recited (in fragments) by John Cleese in the movie "A Fish Called Wanda" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6QUFqiJx9k  When I finally had it burned into my brain and had practiced the pronuciation diligently I found it quite rythmic and beautiful, and knowing the meaning helps me recite it with meaningful emotion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl0-B2l29c8  Who knew that such a gruff language could sound so beautiful?  Perhaps that's what makes the poets so impressive.

My favorite word in Russian is "благодатная" (Blog-a-dot-na-ya) "unbelievable".  It just growls in your throat and your tongue makes a complete survey of your mouth. yes

...to me, most rap is already in a foreign language called "in your face".  Not really enamoured with it as I feel it is too confrntational and much of it is all cuss words, derogatory, and negative statements.  I can get just as much "entertainment" listening to longshoremen on the job.

Give me old Mowtown any day.

    ...my two zł worth.

...no bright blue sky here. More orange to light brown. Even at noon sunlight on the ground had an orange tint more characteristic of early evening before sunset. The smoke from the latest wildfire (caused by a total imbecile who set off fireworks in an area under a red flag fire alert) makes it seem like a one of those days with a thick layer of high clouds. While it has saved us from a 100+ high today (only the low 90s) it also doesn't let the heat dissipate at night so it doesn't cool down as much. At least the smoke is staying aloft thanks to light winds and not coming all the way down to the valley floor which would make conditions unbearable. One more day of this and finally conditions should improve
