Regarding native support of Apple Silicon:

    • macOS: Monterey (12), Ventura (13), Sonoma (14), Sequoia (15)
      • 64-bit Intel (x86_64)
      • Apple Silicon (arm64) is currently supported through Rosetta emulation
        • Native support is pending

    I posted this elswhere but:
    So as a Mac (M3 iMac/Sequoia) user:

    1. I had the quitting Preferences crash a few times
    2. The speed that everything works is wonderful
    3. Filament seems to work but I am not terribly interested just yet since i missed all the sales to get content
    4. rendering is much much faster (i can finally use Iray preview)
    5. My Premier bonus figures won't load (I'm not sure if they won't authorize or that i haven't attached the right directory since i don't know exactly where they live)
    6. i haven't the foggiest if the Premier Plug-ins arte supposed to work

Plugins need a new version for DS2025, I don't know if there's a DS2025 version of the premier plugins available yet.

Regarding the premier-only content, it's installed via Connect so you need to check what it set as Daz Connect content directory in preferences.

With the exception of Geometry Sculptor, yes (though they are not appearing in my downloads). Geometry Sculptor is being worked on, but it is heavily linked to the Viewport draw architecture and that has chnaged greatly, meaning that Geometry Sculptor is going to take longer to update.

I've installed a previous version of Daz3D in the past years, using DazCentral.  I finally got around to playing with it and it was working fine, when launched via DazCentral. I see a note in DazCentral that it is discontinued soon.   Today I installed Daz Install Manager in order to try out the new Alpha, and when all was said and done I didn't see any of the actual app launchers in my Applications.   After some searching, I realized they got installed into /Users/myUserName/Daz 3D/Applications/DAZ 3D   and  /Users/myUserName/Daz 3D/Applications/DAZStudio6 64-bit Public Build   ... I wasn't sure how to proceed, so I dragged the .app  bundles into my real Applications folder.   I then realized both versions of Daz have the same app name and I was hoping to use them side-by-side so I renamed  DAZStudio.app  to DAZStudio-old.app  so that they could live side by side...  when I opened (what I presume is the new alpha)  from laucher, it opened up find and said it found an existing content directory  and offered to import it -- i said no, becauuse I want to keep them separate.   It then prompted me with the login window, and I put my login info in and clicked connect, but then I got a daz quit unexpectedly error.  I also noticed in the DIM window opened that it has a popup that says "Install Manager has lost connection to the DAZ 3D store: Maximum allowable connections exceeded. The "DazCentral" account will now be set to Offline mode. To return to Online mode, click "DazCentral" to login and try again."  ...    I feel like I'm lost in the weeds., and confused about whether DIM is even installing things properly.   What am I doing wrong here?

I formatted an external drive to be my Time Machine Drive For Sequoia 15.4. I took away encrypted and also case sensitive. Should I have made it case sensitive?
I think I read that Totte Recommended case insensitive, or is that only for external drives that would hold DAZ studio content folders?

  • wsterdanwsterdan Posts: 2,675

For me, I've never used "case sensitive"; my experience is that for the average user, it causes more issues than it helps. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will chime in, but I think you're good.

This is exciting news for Mac users! I wonder if the native support will be released in a future Alpha update, or Beta version of Daz Studio 2025? Hope they don't keep Apple Silicon users waiting too long for native support.

I got a message from the Apple Intelligence report that a particular item was blocked. It's from legacy developer Epson. It said that this was blocked because it will be incompatible with a future version of the macOS. But I can enable it in the system settings. I really don't understand what this is. Shall I just leave it blocked? You may refer to the screenshot.

Have you checked to see if there is a scam out like that?

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,341

It seems to be coming from Apple.

  • TotteTotte Posts: 14,265

Probably not correctly notarized or based on old stuff that will be deprecated. Check with Epson is my suggestion.

Not sure if this was asked/answered in this forum yet but at 99 pages Ill just take a hit on my social credit score.....

Does Daz run well on a macbook air/pro.(looking to get the M4 model), viewpoint hang ups? stuttering?

Say you got the 48gb of "unified memory" could you load in say 40gb of models/textures and render it out without "cpu fall back"? if so how long (estamite range is fine) would you say a 40gb scene would take to render on the basic loadout of 5k samples?

Ive got a 4090m so I know it wont be as fast but being limited to 16gb vram is getting....annoying and battery life is a joke at best 3 hours....

I also looked into the rog flow with 96gb of shared but its not Nvidia so it cant use iray there either.......

  • wsterdanwsterdan Posts: 2,675

A Mac doesn't use the GPU with iRay, you need nVidia for that, so there's no drop back to CPU, it's always CPU, as with any non-nVidia card on a PC. It will be slower than with an nVidia card, many times slower than with a high-end nVidia carad.

  • lkopop908lkopop908 Posts: 48
Hmm I assumed it just ran slower since Blender works on macs, forgot that blender doesnt use Iray :( sad. On that note does daz lag/stutter alot when in viewport? Thinking might get a 16gb model to make scenes when out and about then transfer to the nvidia laptop for render time. Tho I guess going with more ram version I could use blender to render out the scene.

I'm not sure if it will help you decide,, but for redraw while working in DAZ Studio 4.x I made a short screen grab showing what I experienced with 21 Genesis 3 figures, each with a minimum of four clothing items, hair (mostly low-poly toon hair), ettc. The post with the clip is near the end of the short thread, and near the end of the video I switch to texture preview.

3D rendering – even just working in preview mode – draws on the CPU, so while you might get more battery life than on a cheaper PC, it's still going to drain faster than you might like. I have an older MacBook Air Intel that I'd be lucky to get two hours or so of working in DAZ and on that machine the fan stayed on a good chunk of the time (mind you,it's still a fairtly quiet fan, but it's there).

With sequoia 15.4, if I wanted to run the etc., do I just put the computer to sleep and let it stay that way overnight? Will access log files be deleted?

So how is DAZStudio4.24 On the Macintosh OS, specifically on Sequoia 15.4?

  • TotteTotte Posts: 14,265

Seems to work well on macOS, 15.4, better than DS 4.23

Anyone find flaws in version 4.24?

I've never used the DAZ originals hair that came with Genesis 9. When I apply any of the materials, including the Omni Ones, it looks really odd in the viewport. It looks almost like a cartoon. Is it supposed to look that way? Does it render out better than the other kinds of hair?

back to this again. The Omni hair shakers still render out very strangely. I'm only using Daz studio version 4.21.0.5 Could that be it? Do the Omni hair shaders require a higher version of DAZ Studio?

I think the Omni shader support came in 4.22

OK, I went ahead and downloaded DAZ Studio 4.24.0.3, and I'm glad I did. Now I see why there was so much fuss about the Omni hair shader. In the product updates, there are older items, which I have never downloaded. Please see the file. Should I download any of these or are they outdated, such as the default resources for daz studio 4.23?

Also, there are some default install sets that I have never downloaded. Again, please see the file. I'm assuming that these are optional, but I may download them later. There are mesh lights, and HDRI starter packs. Are these also optional?

Has anyone tried using a nvidia egpu with a MacBook?
