I caved and got a few things - two new (very rare for me) and two Megafastgrab. Still, happy with all of them :)
The AntFarm's new off-world character for G3F, MRL mutations: Aliens, Angels and Others, for the new ones, and a dynamic martial arts Gi, and i13's archery pose set for the older ones.
I've confirmed wrong discounts and reporting.
Wow...this isn't just a set of armor...It's an entire adventurer's wardrobe. I mean, this is an actual, believable set of clothing for a traveling knight. What is amazing is that it looks practical AND sexy. Bravo to AS for this effort! I do hope they add an XPS texture/morph set that includes totally distressed looks. It would be awesome to see dents, scratches, even cut leathers and broken straps.
Man, I was totally going a different direction with this sale until this armor caught my eye. I don't even normally render armor all that much. But, I really like this one. I've been planning to buy the Whimsy outfit as well....Hang in there, Wallet!
MLR Mutations seems great, it looks less polyvalent than the old one (https://www.daz3d.com/mrl-mutations), but it's only G3...
If you tried the new one already, can you just put the whole skin rather than a few scars ? Can you choose to show / hide other parts than the wounds ?
I don't own it. But, if MRL included the entire body shader (probably a shader that is applied to a geoshell), you should be able to switch on and off which parts of the shell are visible. Also, if you are comfortable at all with editing cutout opacity maps, you can create your own exposed portions by applying your edited map. This is really pretty easy to do.
I really like the look of the Linday Bandage set. My only question is: Why no pelvic/hip bandage? That would really complete the set. I'm just thinking that if you've got your trauma patient / bride of frankenstein / etc. all bandaged up, she's probably not going to be wearing panties. Everything else looks great.
Great to know ! And I have no idea how to do that, any tutoral anywhere ?
As it isn't included in this version, I'd like to know if there any way to apply an object shader (like metal for cars for instance) to a character ?
Yes you can apply the material to the whole body - there's a pdf included with the readme to explain how to do stuff (though for the whole body it's as simple as applying the mat to the figure.
As for applying a shader to a figure - just select the surfaces in the surfaces tab (must have figure selected too) then apply the shader. Whether it'll work well might depend on the shader - if there are body specific mats like these, there might be no point in applying it to something else.
Thanks. And if, on the contrary, they are object shaders ?
Thanks for the tip, your tutorial will come in handy!
@tombraider4ever My pleasure.
Is there any particular reason why a more recent release like this would be only 30% instead of 40% of like other new releases? It is not the only one. Just wondering.

Here is the on sale again page with all items listed.

Add: Ok, now the cart is going wonky. haha I will just wait it out. :)
Reported the loss of the PA sale 40% discounts
Thanks Richard :)
I find that almost all of the older V4 hair that I have gotten looks pretty good with the right hair shaders. Some of the older hair looks better then some newer ones. I find that can be true with some of the older clothing as well.
All day and still not fixed.
Oh well, I need to save the money anyway.
This content:

Is terrible. The guy rambles, loses himself, has a terrible monotone delivery style that makes me want to fall asleep and so far I'm an hour into the "tutorial" which is just a video of a live web session... and he hasn't told me anything I didn't already know. The price, even discounted, is too high. I don't generally like to trash any content - but at this price, this is as terrible as Headshop OneClick - which is the only other piece of content I've bought in over a year that I felt this strongly about. It feels like he is figuring out how to do it as the video goes along, with a lot of points where he is talking to himself more to the audience and then suddenly, Eureka, "Oh, there you go! That is how you do it!"
He also doesn't understand basic things about PC technology - which is why he can't figure out why DAZ won't install directly to his NAS (my guess, he never mapped his NAS folder as a shared drive with a drive letter on his PC...)
Avoid this content at any price, but especially at the price being asked for it.
I bought it a couple of weeks ago and just got around to watching it now. I tried to give it a chance, but an hour into it, I was going, "this is a waste of my time and was more or less theft of my money..."
The "Annual PA Sale Mid Month Catchup New Releases" page was still showing 30% for the first 11 items, and only 15% for AM's two Dinosaur Series products, and Zeddicus' Z Skaters product. I logged out, and they were still showing at 30% and 15%. I took a screenshot and fiddled with the graphics for a few minutes, then logged back in. Lo and behold, the 40% discount was back on the first 11. Unfortunately, the other three are still showing 15%.
I purchased this one from the same guy https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-content-creation-mastery-part-2-modeling-clothing and didn't find it very good either. Didn't learn much at all.
Yeah, I'm all the way through, I kept hoping that it would have some pay off and justify the price-tag the guy is asking...
There are way better tutorials out there for free to learn content management. @Divamakeup gave me better guidance and advice here in the forums on how to use categories with a better scheme than this guy had...
There are great tutorials out there, by Fugazi and Lady Littlefox and PhilW and others - that aren't nearly as expensive, or if they are, they're at least worth it...
Very disappointed in this one.
The video has huge segments that are mostly them quietly reading viewer questions aloud to themselves, trying to figure out what is being asked... then an answer like, "I have, and hopefully I can show you what that is like..." followed by the presenter stumbling around trying to recreate the issue and failing to do so and saying things like, "And that one I couldn't figure out, I'm afraid..."
Great... *rolling eyes*
It is important to note that the tutorial referenced in this message is by a different artist that the one donovancolbert purchased. Both are co-presented by Digital Art Live, but the actual artist doing the tutorial in https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-content-creation-mastery-part-2-modeling-clothing is Esha, a well respected PA who sells content in the Daz store. I also own this Esha tutorial, and I do think I got value from it.
Thanks, reported.
I wasn't seeing this earlier, but now I am - reported
Remember that Daz will refund your money for purchases that you are dissatisfied with, as long as you request the refund within 30 days of purchase. There is no need to keep products that you find to be a waste of money.
I purchased one tutorial from Digital Art Live, and returned it shortly after viewing. In my case, I felt like the content did not live up to the hype, as well as the pain of watching a poorly presented "seminar." I don't believe it is a reflection on the artist as much as the "live seminar" format is simply a poor way to create content for sale, (IMHO.)
A much better format would be for the artist to script what they want to tell their audience and then follow the script. The script is the key. With a script, the artist is kept on track, imparting the knowledge they set out to share. Without a script, it's very easy to get sidetracked, talking about things the artist knows, but wasn't prepared to present at the time. Unfair to the artist, and unfair to the person who buys the product. Not to mention, when a Video is being shot with a script, that script can be included as a companion PDF.
I have purchased numerous tutorials since getting into this hobby three years ago, and I'm pretty sure none of them were produced using a script. Except, perhaps, the one on Blender I just purchased, which comes with both videos and PDF.
Normally if I am dissastisfied with content, it has been minor and when the sale price was good enough, I don't bother requesting a refund. For $5 or $10... I took a gamble on Headshop Oneclick, I lost, and I knew I just needed to wait for FaceGen Artist Pro to go on a good enough sale. Eventually I got it, and I never asked for a refudn on Headshop... but it was bad enough I wanted to warn other users not to make the same mistake as I made.
In this case, I did request a refund. The first time ever for that.
I agree with you L'Adair. You explained it very well. I won't purchase this type of live tutorial anymore, it's not for me.
But I purchased other tutorials by different PAs and they are great. For example the ones from Darkseal on ZBrush are very good, maybe he (she ?) had a script. Very easy to follow, very detailed, easy learning.
Dawww shucks heheh :)
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Actually, I found it so much more useful than this $30 tutorial, send me a PM with your email address and I'll kick you down a $5 gift card... which is an absolute bargain for how useful your advice has been to me. :)
