Also fell in love with https://www.daz3d.com/se-nekobimi-cafe but here comes the brickbat...where is the food? It is pictured in the first eleven promos, which is some serious bait and switch when it's not part of the product. There's not even a 'food not included' in the description. I shall be more discriminating with this vendor going forward and make sure I check ALL the promos.

That's horribly disappointing to hear. Do you mean the display cases are empty in the delivered product? I was considering buying this, but I have no store credit left. Now, I have to reconsider breaking out the charge card for a product that isn't as shown in the promo images.

to be fair, food not included might have been in the original description, it's not the first time such stuff has been omitted by the DAZ store in spite of the creator including it.

many included links to other products used too yet not put in final copy

also as DAZ+ SpaceElsa may not have even done the promo images

as a base member, I wasn't going to buy it anyway

    at least not now

I have no need for it at all, but the new Daz+ release, SE Nekobini Cafe, is super cute.

so guessing the editorial license is no longer a thing at least for new stuff now cause I've seen a lot of that as real physical products sold in various stores, doing a google lens search found out the name of the cat Maneki-Neko and doing a search of that found out about the different versions/meanings pretty cool and all those little figurines the cat, mice, puppies, mugs, pillows Space Elsa has ctreated something special and at that price too so glad didn't cop the EL Japan has some great themed cafes/places

The Maneki-neko is a famous Japanese good-luck cat figurine that features a raised paw, a gold coin, and various symbolic colors.

When something is centuries old, you can pretty safely assume that copyright will not be an issue

no sushi? Well, just going to have to put up a sold out sign or something. Then after a few weeks when there still isn't any, people will be wondering what's up.

Not excusing or justifying, as I find it frustrating as well when what you see isn't what you get, but IIRC I've run into that issue with a couple other of that PA's products, and the item turned out to be in a different set of theirs.

I know they don't have any food like that on offer.

So I do wonder if this is a case where there should be a "product required" link, but the required product hasn't been released yet. It wouldn't be the first time Daz had release timing issues.

Very empty sadly, and no boxes on the counter neither. Perhaps SilverGirl is correct and they are still coming but honestly, I'm over all the bs happening in this store, it's a constant river and I'm soooooooooo tired of it.

Remember, you can return it for a refund. If you think you've been misled and didn't get what you paid for, don't keep it. There is no reason for you to take the loss, however small. I do appreciate you bringing the issue to our attention. Many of us are sick of the constant issues in this Daz ecosystem. It can wear the most prolific shopper down, to become a non-shopper.

Frankly, if you worry about what you do or don't get, you should look at the documentation page and read the file list. Usually the file list exists and it tells you exactly what is in the install: caveat emptor always applies.

Basically, the Maneki-neko, similar to Santa Claus, may have been created by someone, but whoever created it didn't apply for copyright. Now, after so many years(Approximately four hundred years), it has become a legend, and anyone can make and sell their own version.

I was a little disappointed to hear that food wasn't included. A closer look at the accompanying pictures and description confirmed that food was indeed not included. Although it's still a product with a wealth of content, featuring both indoor and outdoor scenes, I really dislike this kind of misleading promotional imagery.

I'd been hesitant about buying that British street infrastructure, but now I can finally purchase the traffic signals I'm so familiar with.

My favorite costume artist. Although there may be thousands of similar costumes here, this one is different. It maintains the artist's consistent style of many costume variations and human poses, making it totally worth the price!

Nekobimi is a lovely set even for just the adorable animal props & coordinated shelving. But I'm surprised to read the sushi and boxes aren't in the set, since they're also coordinated so well in the promo images there was no reason to suspect they weren't included! Still an instant buy for me.

Truck bundle instant wishlist (too much for the current budget)

Maybe the food is an addon (Space Elsa has released a couple of environments alongside props addons before) that for some reason is not yet available.

I suspect it was a dessert shaped like sushi. After all, it's a coffee shop; it doesn't make sense to have a display case full of sushi instead of cakes. Besides, this sushi doesn't look like real sushi, and this kind of "parody" style product is really popular in Japan.

Nintendo tried to copyright the ability to summon creatures but the funniest attempt was to try to copyright the riding of horses or other creatures in games

wow that's really cool to know that something so common isn't copyrighted when just about anything and everything is now days even the happy birthday song this is a really nice looking product with so much in it,

It's because they're so common that they're not - and can't be - copyright protected. Whoever originated the concept has been dead for centuries, so while it would theoretically be possible to trademark a specific design of the maneki neko, nobody can lay claim to the general idea.

I recall a debate here some time ago about franchises trying to lay claim to common objects that they themselves had once taken from general culture, and I hear that there are some franchises that can be pretty obnoxious about it. This was my comment on the subject back at the time:

"Well, at a certain point, (pretty much) everything is inspired by something that came before. Even - and, I would argue, especially - franchises draw on pre-existing ideas. If I write up a story/comic/RPG game/whatever based on completely alien, unrelateable plots, subjects, characters, settings, objects (assuming I could even come up with something that was not based on pre-existing ideas, which is a big assumption), who is going to ... relate to it? Care? Be interested? Take Star Wars: it's inspired by every outer space/fighter pilot/amorphous "evil empire" movie (TV show, book, comic, etc) that came before it. It was not written in a vacuum; it's a recombination of existing elements. The party that owns the IP property of the Star Wars universe can reasonably claim the unique characters, places and things that were created for Star Wars and its various official sequels, products and so on. However, they don't get to own the basic ideas and objects that they themselves adopted from pre-existing fiction and reality. They can own the exact shape and markings of R2-D2 or unique gadgets attached to a long leather jacket. They don't get to own the idea of a long leather jacket. Or of generic round robots. Every western ever had long leather jackets; practically every early space movie had round robots... "

The first Star Wars was also a heavy plot rip from Akira Kurasawa's The Hidden Fortress with other lifts from Herbert's Dune, Flash Gordon, and the climax of Dambusters stuck on the end, while C3PO is a blantantly obvious male version of the iconic Maria robotrix from Metropolis.

I would say that "Valerian and Laureline" holds so much iconic similarity to many of Star wars "famours" originals that I always wondered that they were not sued on it.
Just do a search on "valerian star wars similarities" and put on the images...
Perhaps European comic artists are more relaxed about this then American movie lawyers...

If George Lucas had succeeded in acquiring the rights to Flash Gordon, Star Wars would never have existed. If he hadn't surrounded himself with people who had better ideas than he had, Star Wars never would have been good.

If he hadn't sold it, then it would still be a viable franchise.

Today's email says "20% off your cart and gift cards". Can't find the same thing on the shop page. But the 20% off your cart there doesn't have the normal disclaimer about gift cards.

Must admit I think Riversoft's new Voxelizer is a clever idea. And I'm equally sure I have absolutely no idea what I'd use it for.

Yes it's a clever idea but unless you're going Roblox style, I can't see any use for it.

The problem with that argument is that the Valerian comic started running in France in 1967, a full ten years before Star Wars, and the storyline that eventually became the movie, Ambssador of Shadows, started running in 1975, so any possible theft would have been going the other way. ;)  And, of course, both were building on a long tradition of space opera stories, with Lucas only coming up with the his idea for Star Wars after h'de tried to buy the rights to remake Flash Gordon in the early 70s only to find that DIno Delaurentis had already bought the remake rights in 1964 (around the same time that Dino had also bought the rights to Barberella and Danger: Diabolik.) Now, if you want to talk serious similarities, Luc Besson really wanted to make a film of Valerian back in the early 90s as he'd loved it as a kid, but he ended up making The FIfth Element first as a less-expensive to produce kind of homage eventually tackling the original when digital technology made it more possible. Ironic that 5th Element turned out to be a much better film, but there you go...

I definitely like the expressions on this new item https://www.daz3d.com/z-basic-emotions-fear-and-dread-expressions-for-genesis-9

In Compatible Figures the following characters are listed:
Genesis 8 Female, Genesis 8.1 Female, Genesis 9

...but in Details and What's included only Genesis 9 is listed. Experienced such a thing with products from Zeddicuss before. So, be careful what you buy and if it really works for your character.

I dont have that but AFAIK it just voxelizes stuff into cubes like Minecraft

this can do spheres and other shapes that can then have physics applied
