So do they have a robotic pooper scooper so I don't need to bend over to pick up the poop??

I think someone is just trying to torment me.

Oh, I don't have room for a scooter in my apartment. blush

cats like jumping up on things so a litter box can be securely placed at a comfortable height for you as long are there is space around and preferably a few intermediate points for kitty to climb ie a table with a lower cupboard or cat tree next to it.

    Tango and Sherry visited today.

Sherry offered to visit a local animal shelter with me in a couple weeks. (After sge returns from a family visit)

I actually look forward to seeing cats in person. I'll get an immediate sense of whether we might have a good match.

I got my dog Bandit at an animal shelter in New Hampshire. Some friends had actually picked him out, as a surprise for me.

I took one look at that little puppy (6 weeks old), and it was instant puppy love.

When I visited Paris in 1998 I was lucky enough to visit the Eiffel tower. However the most memorable thing by far was being in a taxi as the driver went through a set of red lights at 80 mph/130 kmh. He saw it go orange 100m away when we were only doing 50mph/80kmh on a road wide enough for parked cars on either side and a single vehicle going down the middle. The driver floored the accelerator and we went through the red at 80mph on a 5 way crossing while still accelerating. I could see the speedometer, which was far from reassuring.

It was strange walking through some of the streets around the Champs Elysse fairly late at night, it was summer, no breeze and many windows were open. Walking along, I could smell several different perfumes wafting through the air along each street and heard fragments of unknowable conversations (my spoken French is not good, but I can read subtitles fast enough to keep up with the TV - shame people don't speak with subtitles).

I only saw 2 Citroen 2CV's at the time (same as in our short road at home at the time), which was a terrible disappointment. The parking was hysterical to watch. There were never any spots big enough, so drivers found a gap about half their car length and reversed in, pushing the vehicle behind until it (and several others) moved far enough to create a space. Then they left the vehicle leaving the parking brake off so someone else could do the same. All the vehicles looked seriously battered.

I found that so long as I tried to speak French (however poor schoolboy French it was), many, many people remembered how to speak very good English. However, a representative from another company attending the same conference who couldn't, or wouldn't, try French found that no-one in Paris spoke any English at all, and had an extremely difficult time. I was not impressed that he didn't even try French in the capital city of France. Very rude. I was obviously not the only one.

I will confess that after a week eating Haut Quisine in lovely restaurants I was absolutely desperate for a simple meal without rich, creamy sauces, artfully prepared meat and vegetables, and ended up having a spectacularly wonderful meal in a chinese restaurant just behind the Champs Elysee chatting to the owners who'd been in Hong Kong during Typhoon Wanda in 1962 (same as my parents), and it was that storm that made them emigrate to somewhere that didn't have Typhoon's. She had been a cook in the mess at the airfield where my dad had been based while in Hong Kong - of all the co-incidences.

    Regards,

    Richard

I find that when I'm in the Canaries with the Germans. I never see any of them trying to integrate, they expect the Spaniards to speak German. I've lost track of the number of conversations I've had with Spanish friends, in Spanish naturally, about the arrogant Krauts. I think it's fair to say that the German invasion is not welcomed, purely tolerated for financial gain.

When I was working in Belgium I found the French speaking Belgians wouldn't speak Dutch, and the Dutch speacking Belgians wouldn't speak French, but both were quite happy to speak English. They were happy to cope with my very poor attempts to speak their languages, even if it was only to order beers. I think they appreciate people at least trying, it shows that you recognise their culture, and that you are not assuming they will adapt to your preference. I found the Belgian and Dutch bars quite different to ones in the UK, For one thing they seemed to prefer that you order whatever drinks you want through the evening, and then pay the bill at the end, whereas bars in the UK expect you to pay for each individual order, unles you are a regular with a 'tab'.

That aside, is anyone going to call Lola and let her know you all arrived safely (even with Richard on board) ?
She must be worried sick by now!

They probably all checked in when they landed. I'm sure Richard had to tell Lola all about flying the plane. She knows to take his stories for what they are worth. She is not worried. She knows Richard gets out of all predicaments he gets into.

I hope you don't mind. I just popped in to give you updates on my latest project.

My friends have been loving my artwork and poetry. They want to see more.

I spent the past few days hunting down my poetry and artwork.

Today I printed out some of the cartoons I'd put together years ago.

I placed each cartoon in its own "report cover" with a clear cover.

This idea makes it easy to pass around the comics as a "lending library," and/or I can give some away.

I'm so excited. I'll show them to my friends tomorrow.

It is always a great feeling when you re-find a "lost" part of yourself. I bet your friends will enjoy the work you've put into this labor of love.
What's the word on the cat? If you get it, will you name it Richard or Tom?

I've decided to wait awhile till I get a cat.

I need to get my personal affairs in order. I also need to get rid of lots of junk.

Right now it's hard to move around.

The cat will be a Senior cat. It will likely already have a name... and I will keep that name!

    For Wendy:
This was nearly impossible for my computer to render. But I finally got something after several optimizations and multiple DS crashes.

thats a full lion cloth, not so fun fir the lion but I guess it tried to eat him so understandable.

... but given the size of the one in the original render, I am now worried who's skin that was surprise

Scaled down for the Richard render. After scaling, the fur wouldn't fit. I probably couldn't have rendered it with fur anyway. And it was a "lion cloth", so cloth doesn't need fur, I decided.

Maybe someone dismantled a stuffed toy lion (or just didn't finish making one)

That is a very plausible explanation. When my nieces were infants, I sewed them stuffed monkeys. The monkey was named Fred, for reasons I don't remember. When I had it sewn, but not stuffed yet, my husband saw it flat on my sewing table and called it a Fred skin rug.

Here is an old worn out Fred on the left and a new Fred, for the next kid, on the right.

The pattern came from the Woman's Day magazine September 1, 1978.

What's the duf size for that one? I'm surprised you struggled to render it, unless your PC is getting on in years? I can render 8k images on a Ryzen 7, 64Gb DDR5 and 3080Ti, though it takes hours to do.

Could the fur of the cloak: some can eat VRAM like there is no tomorrow.

The scene file is not unusually large. It is 1940 KB. My computer is pretty old. The CPU is Intel 8700K, so many generations old. I have 32 GB of RAM and a 10GB RTX3080 GPU. I think the main problem was all the hair on the lion cloak. There are several hair pieces. I also used an HDRI that took up some memory. I used Scene Optimizer on the character's skin textures and hair textures. I also reduced his rendering mesh resolution.

Two interesting tidbits: I've lost 16 pounds since June,

I've shrunk 2 inches in height, Down from 5 ft 10 inches to 5 ft 8 1/2 inches,

    I'm shrinking!

Boo on the shrinking!  That's a lot of height loss. Are you just slumping?

I've been having an tremendous number of medical and dental appointments and tests lately, too, so I can empathize. I think when we hit 75 everything broke, Ron. crying

I have Degenerative Disc Disease. I've always had bad posture.

And now I hunch over to push the walker. I should get one that allows me to stand up straight.

I've been falling apart all my life. I get a scan of my head and brain coming up..... See how many cobwebs remain.

I have a consultation for umbilical hernia surgery. I've had it for 25 years. Time to get it fixed.

In October I see a therapist to see if I can get a better handle on my emotions. That's been a life-long struggle.

At least I'm living in a great place. I have 100+ friends. All of them love my artwork, poetry and stories.

Most of them don't have computers or go on the Internet. So I print out the stuff, and let them borrow it. Two of my printers died, and I can't afford to replace them.

Oh, and I won't put compost in my shoes!laugh
