I have every one of my engineering textbooks still. Not one of them has been opened since university.

I kept all of mine too. And I rarely open them. But I figured I might one day. And I refuse to buy books for 100 USD just to sell them back for 1 USD.

I still have all my accountancy books in the attic, just sat there gathering dust. Can't even sell them now as the whole qualification has changed and my books are now obsolete.

I thought these toy mice look cute.

Perhaps there's a future in establishing a museum for obsolete books?  Nah, probably not.indecision

I don't know about the rest of you, but I remember when rocks & clubs were good enough, I don't completely understand this new spear thing.cheeky

An Observation:  It rained here two days ago.  Rained heavy, heavy heavy.surprise  Yesterday while doing dishes I noticed the farmer neighbor up the hill was down by the main street with his tractor, scraping his garden dirt up and carrying it back up the hill, again.  Everytime he does that it goes back up the hill with more gravel gleaned from the roadway.indecision

Non-complaint:  Upcoming mini-adventure.  Eye appointment tomorrow on the far side of the city.  Wheee..., a chance for a significant change of scenery,  with breakfast at Wendy's, a visit to the mall, shopping at JC Penney's, and a decent restaurant lunch at Olive Garden.  Two weeks after that will be an appointment with my primary physician, a breakfast at a little cafe near the hospital, and a blood test at the hospital lab.  Excitement unbounded.smiley

    ... ... ...

After Eye appointment:  Meh..., went OK, but after receiving the doctor bill I couldn't justify extra shopping and a proper lunch at Olive Garden.  So, just returned to near side of the city to the little hole-in-the-wall beanery in the decrepit mini-mall for a wonderful Biscuit & Gravy breakfast with a side order of bacon (yum, bacon!).  Then picked up Chinese takeout and Uber'd home.  'Nuf spent.  Mischief managed. smiley

Maybe the rain gods hate your neighbor, or something...

complaint: It stormed hard here yesterday. Lots of hail.

The Back to the 50's classic car show is going on at the State Fairgrounds.

I haven't gone since I was a kid tagging along behind my father, but I'll never forget how all those guys talked with such love about their cars and all the work they put in to restore them. My heart breaks for everyone who was out there yesterday.

non-complaint: All my trees made it through fine. I only noticed one casualty on our walk, and it was a tree that hadn't leafed out this year. I guess nature took care of it.

@SilverGirl  The only thing more attractive to storms than trailer parks is a collection of freshly waxed cars.frown

In the UK it's usually pigeons or gulls.

    Pigeons and gulls attract storms?

I got these yesterday.  I think I am going to put some of them in a pot with dirt. Then put water on them.  Then what?

    ∞x∞+∞ equals what?

I think I am heading home now after a nice day at work.

No, freshly washed and waxed cars attract pigeons and gulls to empty their bowels angry

  • Complaints: 1. Recap: I may or may not have mentioned I got my mammogram a couple weeks ago when the mobile one came to town. For the first time in years using the service, they didn't get some of the views. Stuff does happen - but this meant a 4 hour round trip (& 3/4 tank of gas) to Little Rock. Between me & Husband, everyone has gotten an earful. But nothing found, yay!

    2. Bonus to above: All the parking valets (only option )went missing for 20-30 minutes & only showed up because we called the parking control office. I would've been late if Husband hadn't sent me on up while he waited.

    3. While the local ticks still hate OFF! repellent, the chiggers (harvest mites in UK) are seemingly immune and since we are in a rural area there are lots of both. Chigger "bites" don't ever stop itching. Related non-complaint: the monthly flea/tick product we get for the dogs works very well.

Non-complaints: 1. After mammogram was finally done right, we spent the afternoon with Son. We brought pizza, soda, & ice cream to his place. The 3 of us feasted while we watched My Adventures With Superman & assorted movie trailers.

    2. A pair of black vultures hangs out & nests in a falling-down little smokehouse nearby. I've been watching them for the 5 years we've lived here. This week, I have finally seen a baby and it's adorable! They're nearly the size of the adults and half downy & half feathered so can't fly yet. I call it Dust Bunny. The vultures all perch on the metal roof. I have pictures from a distance if anyone wants to see. Gilly the Ditzy Collie is still fascinated by the birds and wants to play but as always, they ignore him or give him scornful looks. It's amazing how clearly the adults can express "WTF?!" with body language.

Not the only birds...birds in general.  I've had a theory about that for years...Shiny cars blind them with the sunlight when they fly over, so they try to dull them down!  cheeky

Non-complaint:  A few moments later..., Dishes all done.  Have started restocking the refrigerator with a container of peaches, a container of diced fried potatoes & ham for breakfasts, opened a new wedge of cheese, opened a jar of pickles, put a couple of 8 oz. cans of V8 juice in to replace the morning OJ.  All ready for another week or so.yes

Complaint:  My body has forgotten how to digest potato chips.crying  Gall bladder troubles?

Complaint:: One of my internet friends, whom I met here many years ago, has passed away. If you've been here forever, you might remember BluesDragon (and Neferset, whom he married). Anyway, he passed away today (cancer), and I'm sad about it.

Glad your mamo came back clear, though I'm sorry for all the trouble it took to get there. Yay for ice cream & pizza party!

non-complaint: Today is packed full of celebration: the Solstice, plus Father's Day, plus the anniversary of the judge putting the rubber stamp on my divorce paperwork. Called my dad to have a nice long chat, and got myself a couple small treats off the Daz store because gosh darn it, if I have to be both parents, I get both holidays. The divorce is a bit weirder of a holiday because nothing really changed that day... the mediation had been two-and-a-half months prior, and I still couldn't change the locks on my house to keep the ex- out for another week and a half. But that rubber stamp meant the kids were 100% mine, officially full legal and physical custody, which was a relief (even though again, nothing changed, because it's not like the ex- ever participated in parenting beyond passing down edicts that I was expected to implement because having a Y chromosome apparently made him an authority on everything).

....although really, every day I wake up a single mama is a celebration. Even on the hard days, I'm still divorced, so I've always got that going for me.

I forgot it was the solstice. Nice. I love long days. Coincidentally, it's also my divorce-aversary for the day it was finalized in 2017. So 9 years. (I had to look up the year lol.)

And thanks for the condolences, everyone. I let Nef know.
