Well leather also cracks and breaks but it can take 10 to 20 years of driving your van before the seat cushion goes. But the engine still works, tires just got replaced and if we get out of our water rationing for the drought, I can take it to a car wash again.

Our van (a Merc Sprinter) had a fabric seat cover. Just as long lasting, but doesn't make your eyes pop out or strain your throat if getting in and sitting on a summer sun warmed seat while wearing shorts. Regards, Richard.

Some years ago, my brother and cousin put their money together to buy me an office chair. The fake leather isn’t much of a problem anymore because it has crumbled and fallen off so much that there isn’t much left to fall of. The chair is quite comfortable.

Maybe that’s the solution… just shed it all until it can’t shed anymore.

  • Complaints: 1. Tomorrow is Decoration Day at Husband's church. (Day new flowers are put on graves, plus potluck.) Because none of the very few stores in our rural area, including the Great Demon Walmart carry much, we ordered some via the Demon's website. Got a set of artificial flowers that were supposed to come with artificial butterflies. Very pretty but no butterflies. We couldn't exchange the set because we didn't have time for another delivery. Not ordering delivery from that Demon again. I will call Home Office Monday. Don't worry I speak their language because I used to be Customer Service there.

    2. I have to drive a 4 hour round trip to get my mammogram redone Wednesday. I took advantage of the mobile unit like I do every year & it was easy every time - but not this time. For starters it wasn't the usual uncomfortable; it was very painful, and the skin was pulled enough it got badly irritated. The next day we got a call that the techs didn't notice some of the images didn't show as much tissue as needed, so didn't realize they needed to do retakes. Since none of the other van stops are near us, we have to go to Little Rock. Plus, the followup letter doesn't say that; it's a form letter for abnormal findings.

Non-complaint: we can visit 1 or both kids, depending on their schedules, after the appointment.

There is an old TV show called Sanford & Son, based on an even older TV show called Steptoe & Son. In one of the episodes, the father and son got X-ray examinations. The son received a letter saying he had to come back for more tests due to abnormal results.

This led to him spending the entire episode assuming something terrible was happening. It turned out he was wearing a medal during the X-ray, which made a strange object appear in the results, and nobody noticed that.

Just to clarify, Sandford & Son was a re-written version of the British Steptoe & Son, for the US market. It didn't fare very well....

During one of my tests (X-ray, MRI or whatever) I was asked to remove my top as the tech noticed a logo 'TM' on the back below my shirt's. It was made of metallic paint or something. I think this was for my skull, I had fallen a few years prior on black ice and my head smacked the asphault hard enough to leave an eggshell lump, blood, and one heck of a headache. Whenever weather changes now, that spot hurts and is a radiating source of pain. My doctor was worried about what was going on with my skull and the tissue. All normal. Yet the problem persists. Growing old sucks - you can get hurt just standing still.

It is too hot in NC!  I walked to Food Lion and grabbed trash bags but now a tad tired so do not want to take care of trash.

Which one didn't fare well? Sanford and Son was very popular and a cultural touchstone in the US.

Perhaps it was only certain areas or groups? The UK version is certainly regarded as a classic (which feels uncomfortable since I remember when it was still being made).

Sandford and Son was very big in the US, running for 6 seasons, and those are 1970s seasons with probably 24 episodes per, except the first so it may have been a mid-season replacement for some other failed show.

The UK version ran for over a decade, the US version only lasted 5 years.

Rewriting English scripts for the American market didn't work, there were just too many cultural differences so a lot of the jokes no longer made sense.

Watching the Stanley Cup finals. The Carolina Hurricanes could take it all tonight. I hope they do. Go Canes!

My cat goes in for surgery in the morning at 7:00 (EDT). Hopefully she does ok with the anesthesia. I have to take away her food in an hour, and take away her water in the morning.

Sanford and Son wasn't just an American retread of a British show, it was an entirely original show with the same premise, very much adapted for the (African) American audience and helmed by a comedy legend. It ran for six consecutive seasons. Steptoe and Son ran for four series, then another four after a five-year break. Sanford and Son was among the most popular, most watched shows on television during its entire run. Suggesting that it was any kind of failure is absurd.

Checking the time, I am hoping that all is going well and you and your cat are in a good place prior to surgery. Will keep the positive thoughts strong today.

During the times I was back in the States, the show was extremely popular and even in re-runs it stays popular as each generation discovers it.

    RE: Sanford and Son

    According to Google...

Sanford and Son was a massive ratings juggernaut, finishing in the Nielsen Top 10 for five of its six seasons on NBC between 1972 and 1977. The show frequently vied with All in the Family for the number one spot on American television. [1, 2]

The series was a runaway success from the moment it premiered, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon: [1, 2]

    • Season 1 & 2 (1972-1974): The show debuted in a tough Friday night time slot against The Brady Bunch but quickly drained its audience, eventually propelling NBC's Friday lineup to network-wide dominance. It peaked at the #2 overall spot in the Nielsen ratings for two consecutive seasons. [1, 2, 3]
    • Mid-Run Consistency: Throughout the rest of its run, it consistently ranked as one of the most-watched programs on television, paving the way for other landmark, predominantly Black American sitcoms. [1, 2, 3, 4]
    • Ratings Decline and Finale: The show's ratings saw a gradual decline heading into its sixth season. It officially concluded in March 1977 when lead actor Redd Foxx departed to host a variety show on ABC. [1]

Thanks, everyone. She cried the whole way there in the car, but that's to be expected. They're goingn to call in a few hours when it's time to pick her up. Meanwhile, I have to decide if I want them to send the mass out for pathology. I think I will, because it should be covered by her pet insurance.

As for Sanford and Son, I loved that show. It was hilarious. I only saw it in reruns, though. I was too young to watch it in its first run.

My new dragon is missing his right eye.  I do not know what to do.  I have contacted Amazon about it, though.
