I can't post it here for obvious reasons, but some time back one of my stupider render ideas - and for those of you aware of the general scope of my render ideas, that gives you a sense of how stupid the idea that's coming is - was a lady in a Victorian bedroom trying to take nude selfies of herself in the mirror, using what was probably about an 1870s camera. One of the huge boxes with a concertina front.

I was working on a song for a music challenge and wanted to do a space-based visual narrative for the music video. My goal was to use a good number of Stonemason's Sci-Fi environments since they've just been sitting in my runtime, darn it, I need to use them... at least once?! And also work in other never-used-before things as well (along with regular favorites etc.)  Even then of course, it's just a small number of things in the face of all the stuff we buy, but I feel good about it. smiley

Here's a bit about the song and video:
In the lyrics, Blue Skies refers to a state of freedom and lightness, free of limits, expectations and destinations. (But also with reverence to Earth's beautiful blue sky.)
The video narrative also relates things back to Earth. I had originally envisioned the narrative in deep space, but the song lyrics and the Artemis 2 mission made me shift the scenes to a 'moonbase' instead, and the quiet solitude of our researcher. Ever present is the forever pull of our blue planet with its blue skies.

Assets used for the first time:

(Only adding hyperlinks to some of the main environments used. I tried to keep track of most things I hadn't used before, but I'm sure I missed some.)

I don't know of any nude selfies**, but the earliest known clothed photography selfies date to the 1830's:

That really is a very beautiful voice you have there!

Airy and feminine with a mysterious hint of husk about it.  I couldn't help but picture a woman in a long dress that touches the stage floor, standing behind a microphone in some classy and exclusive, smoke-filled Art Deco club.

Posting this under #RandomTheme since she originally started out as a technical render to show vellus hair.  She's the first character I made on my Linux install of Daz Studio, so I suppose I'll call her Luxiana or something like that.  I've no dForce set up yet (so she has no hair or clothes), but I think her face suits being presented as ...

It does look kinda similar, but Phil looks like he might be looking to cause a fight, while Luxiana's probably out to cause a fright looking like that  :-D

Yeah, yours has a bit more of a ghostly look, like Silent Hill or something.

Silent Hill is one of those names I keep seeing a heck of a lot, yet unusually for me, it's one of the few horror franchises I've not seen a single movie from.
I'll have to change that sooner rather than later!

I have found this thread inspiring, and so here I am with my first use ever of some of Stonemason's City Ruins sets.  3D models of that quality should not sit unused on our hard drives, so here is "The Deadly Duo."  Rendered in Blender as always with my images.

Lucy is explaining something to Cooper in her ever-cheerful manner; knowing these two it is probably something Cooper doesn't want to hear...

Looks good, but I'm curious, did you convert that to Iray or use it as is?
I almost bought that set, and really wish I had now!

The Fallout image was rendered in Blender using the Cycles render engine.  I used the Diffeomorphic script to export from DAZ Studio, then the Diffeomorphic Blender add-on to import into Blender.  After that I did manually tweak every Blender material because although Diffeomorphic does a reasonable job I still like to get the best results possible.  If the models predate iRay in DAZ Studio I don't think it would be a lot of work to convert the 3D-Lite materials to iRay.  Plus you only have to do it once for each model and you can save it to your library for future use.

  • 3DIO3DIO Posts: 241

    @FireAngel
I really shouldn't have used the term Iray (I really meant PBR compatible) but I can see you know what I meant.  Funny thing is stuff like cement and bricks can often come in looking better as non PBR than when PRB compatible.  Thanks for the info.  I think I kept it on my wishlist so will likely grab it next time.

Here are the three City Ruins buildings from my Blender library; All the illustrations are straight from Blender Cycles.  I keep each file with a rendered image in the library so I have a clear idea what they are even if (as with these) I bought them years ago.  I do recommend these if you need wrecked buildings, and any other Stonemason wreckage too.  The "Stefan's Delicatessen" sign on City Ruins building 1 is my own addition.  I add that sign in sometimes as an oddball tribute to Stonemason, real name Stefan Morell.  In an alternative universe he makes really great food instead of 3D models.

Also, nice thought to tribute Stefan!

I've been buried in various stuff for a while, but I've found a bit of an opportunity to do some stuff.

Playing the old tunes, putting centaurs in underpants again:

https://www.daz3d.com/build-a-street-english-country-village (although it's pretty subtle behind the trees).

A really flipping time consuming scene, because it took me ages to fill out the shelves and table (which while it's not my first use of it is adapted from https://www.daz3d.com/after-the-war ) to make it look like a wargaming store.

https://www.daz3d.com/jigsaw-puzzle (albeit retextured as model boxes in the background)
No store page for it any more, but "Tabletop Dice Christmas Freebie" (2023) from GCJellyfish

And arguably more suited for the "test your buys" thread, but rather than kicking off two posts for it:

This is me ignoring the instructions on https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-rql-varsity-cheer-girl-outfit-genesis-8-and-81-female and using some of my clothing conversion tricks to put it on a Genesis 9 figure (auto-fit and most converters will quite badly break clothing posing morphs - this is just using their ready made pose morphs, no dForce of my own.).

3DIO A Dark Vignette - Love the render and style! The assymetrical mouth adds so much to the realism.

Fire Angel Great that you were inspired by the thread and put Stonemason's City Ruins sets to use!

Matt_Castle Populating all the shelves and that table top! Oof, that's an insane amount of effort and detail!

csaa She's lovely! And very sweetly expressive in her pose.

I tried making a 'cinematic short' to pair with a simple soundtrack for a music contest over the past week or so. I wanted to use more stuff I hadn't yet, and try out some new approaches as well for the look and the video. Fun, and wow, DAZ feels like magic every time! heart

In the literal view, the story's about a doll waking up to life. But figuratively, there are many ways to interpret the visual story, symbolism and paired lyrics. I tried to sing with a quieter 'doll-like' voice, so that the lyrics would seems to come from her thoughts.

Assets used for the first time:

CB Etta HD Character, Clothing, Texture Expansion, and Makeup Bundle | Daz 3D

Wooden Puppet Bundle | Daz 3D

SY dForce Ropes, Vines and Tubes | Daz 3D

Elisabetta La Rein Magical Headdress (no longer in the store)

    Various props from sets, including:

KuJ Alchemy Lab | Daz 3D

    Creepy Curios | Daz 3D

    Santa's Toy Workshop | Daz 3D

    Pose packs:

Marionette Poses for Genesis 8 Female | Daz 3D

String Doll Poses for Genesis 9 and Genesis 8 Female & Male | Daz 3D

The Ledge - Poses and Props for Genesis 8 Female | Daz 3D

Z Tired and Exhausted Utility Pose Collection for Genesis 8 and 8.1 | Daz 3D

Z Hanging and Climbing Utility Pose Mega Set for Genesis 8 and 8.1 | Daz 3D

Z Pure Mystery Mix and Match Expressions for Genesis 9 | Daz 3D

I love CB's bundles, but this may be the first time I'm properly putting one of them to use! Thrilled about that.
SY's ropes set was really neat and useful, especially once I started to use the Active Pose tool with them.
The pose sets made this project work go so much quicker. It makes perfect sense why I keep getting so many of those! laugh

Fortunately, the LowPi formations script did the job of providing a couple of groups I could rescale and reorient onto many of the shelves, but even with that it did still take a long time to get the scene full enough to look like a complete wargames store, particularly as all of the stuff on the table needed more careful manual positioning.

One of those ideas where once you start it you realise how much of a slog it's going to be to actually finish...

3DIO Thank you very much! heartYes, I went for some vintage vibes, with a little nod to silent movies and the old hand-made dolls and puppets used in stop motion animation. I love that we can do so many styles and genres with our DAZ renders. It's mind-blowing! smiley
