@mding, thanks for your kind words! And there's maybe a little something for you in the new freebies to console you for missing out on that one deal, a sweet G2 dress with a very lovely wreath: https://www.daz3d.com/woodland-dancer-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s.Maybe you don't have it yet.

@Night Owl 3D: WOW, I love it! Such a nice render showing how awesome g2 outfits and hair still can look - many thanks!

@tsroemi: That's so nice of you, thank you!

In this case I already owned it, but from time to time I get really nice g2 products for free at DAZ. From the 3333 g2 products I own 1913 products and if I would buy the rest for 1$ at the outlet store, that still would be $ 1420 (!!) -  and I would not be able to render it in my lifetime. And then there is still the other store and the other generations. So, although it always hurts missing out, deep inside I know very well I'm fine, lol.

  • @mding: Glad you like it. smiley

I recently got some old gel lights, and I wanted to play with them.

And @mding don't bother to find the outfit - it doesn't exist.

@felis: Incredible work with the shadows, very impressive! Also the skin looks fantastic, even though the lighting doesn't accentuate it. Concerning the outfit, I know that your renders mean the highest difficulty level, so thanks for the warning, lol. But sincerly, that's a remarkable one - many thanks!

@FrankTheTank: It is fantastic, what you and others in this thread have accomplished with the look of g2 skin material - many thanks, that's one very great pin up render!

I got the Woodland dress, as it is in the current freebies.

So I was playing around with that.

Oh that is nice @felis! I also got the dress, but to be honest it was more for the lovely flowers. Your render shows just how beautiful the dress does move.

    Thank you, Mary

Well, I did apply dForce to it and a weightmap, but is was fairly simple.

@felis: Beautiful Thank you so much! I also like how the hair looks and the posing - to me it has a strong fantasy and mysterious touch - very well done!

Here is my take on G2F(left) and V3(right). I wanted to see just how different or better or worse the models are when compared side by side. The image consists of the two figures using a texture called Yarishan by Dreampaint. It was a character set with morph, textures and props for the character V3 in this case (2005). I had converted the base texture to V4 and I used the V4 UV mapping change on G2F to apply the texture. The leotard that the twins are wearing is a 2003 freebie by Specs2. (Simple LeotardV3 - Poser and Daz Studio Free Resources Wiki). Who by the way was a published artist for DAZ in the early days. If you have the freebie Princess Akkan which is for V3, as well, you have one of the DAZ products Specs2 created. I took an older free hair called Simple Hair by Mark003 (2010) at Rendersoity as my product I wanted to see if I could make it work in the more advanced setting of an iRay render. I used a shader set by Astuceman (https://github.com/Astuceman/Daz-Iray-Shaders-and-Lights) He has several hair iRay presets. The original hair is on G2F and the modified hair is on V3. To update the skin I used VRX iRay Skin Shader by vrxitachi. (Sharecg). The feather boa is by StudioArtVartanian. So in conclusion. I think 20+ year old stuff does have a chance of competing with the big boys. I give you the twins.

  • @DollyGirl, that is very illuminating. The use of the same texture, hair, clothing and pose on both characters enables a direct comparison of the differences. V3's hand, elbow & armpit show their age quite a lot in the image. However, you have also shown that with a bit of work, both generations can stand alongside G8 and G9 for a full figure shot without looking out of place. Most impressive.

    Regards,

    Richard

@DollyGirl: Totally agree, this is incredible - a V3 texture which looks so beautiful and realistic even today, I also like the outfit with feather boa  - many thanks and I hope you don't forget to post it also at https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/108001/the-older-generation-victoria-2-3-michael-2-3-and-their-children-renders. Very impressive!

Thank you @richardandtracy and @mding. It was a fun project. I put the post over on the older generation thread as well. Also I used your scripts richard to help me pose V3.  I did convert V3 to tri-ax and also added smoothing. I tried to use sources that were free so that anyone could to the same.

An elf in the Land of Giant Mushrooms.  Toon character is a combination of Callie 6 and The Girl 6.  She is wearing Woodland Dancer Outfit for Genesis 2 Females and Bloomingwood Hair for Genesis 2 Females.  Background is a free CC0 AI generated image.

Please try it again later. Or publish it in your gallery and share the link here. Anyway, many thanks for trying!

  • felisfelis Posts: 5,723

Publish in gallery and share link doesn't work anymore. Daz did something recently, and the link will time out after some time, so you will not see the image any longer.

@felis: AFAIK only if you share the direct link to the image. But if you share the link to the page of the gallery which presents that image, that works, although it means you have to follow the link in order to see the picture.

ETA: In June I posted a gallery link of my picture in this thread and this link works to this day:

So here comes a first try with https://www.daz3d.com/fw-joanie-hd by Fisty & Darc and Fred Winkler Art, wearing the https://www.daz3d.com/cheongsam-dress-for-genesis-2-female-s by Sarsa and Xena with a texture option from https://www.daz3d.com/cheongsam-dress-textures by Sarsa. That Cheongsam looks lovely, @mding.

I've had the joy of my fourth dose of COVID in the last couple of days, and have managed to sit upright for a few hours this morning. The characters are Naida and Alessa. The train is FG luxury train. The clothing on Naida is by Wilmap Top & Bottoms . Naida's hair is Lady Florence Hair , Alessa's hair is Ranger Hair . Can't remember Naida's shoes. Alessa's shoes are those with the Cheogsam set. Naida Jewellery : Earrings Allen Art Briolete Hoops , Bicep Ring is Allen Art 'Genny Bracelet' moved to the bicep (Can I say here, AllenArt's jewellery is saleable quality, really is). Glasses are Octagonal Highball glasses by me. Poses: scratchbuilt from default pose - I haven't got a G8F toG2F pose transfer script to make things easier yet.. Hrrumph.  The background is Moulton Falls West railway cutting HDRI from PolyHaven. I spent a fairly unproductive time trying to get the train and track to align until I went to a wide top view and could see when the train and track on the HDRI were in alignment.

    Regards,

    Richard

Thank you, @richardandtracy! I hope you stay careful, it can be very dangerous to work too much once you begin to recover.

This is really a very elaborate render you contributed to us, posing looks very convincing, coming from you that is definitely no surprise, the atmosphere seems to be quite serious, the lighting and hdri give it a grounded everyday realistic feeling IMO. Both characters look great, as does the hair - I like it a lot - many thanks, again!

BTW no need to tell us what you use, anyway. Sometimes I stumble upon it and add it, but this is just a for fun thread!

My second take on https://www.daz3d.com/fw-joanie-hd by Fisty & Darc and Fred Winkler Art with https://www.daz3d.com/smart-and-sassy-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s by Barbara Brundon and Sarsa and Sally Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s) and Genesis 2 Female(s) by SWAM which has been discontinued in the shop in favor of https://www.daz3d.com/sally-hair-for-genesis-9, the scarf is from https://www.daz3d.com/duffle-dream-for-belle-6 (Outlet Store!) by Oskarsson.
