As much as I appreciate the female figure, I have to agree there's a glut of bikini, lingerie, and outfits that you wouldn't want your family member to wear in public... lol
Totally, totally bored with all the swimsuits- none of which are a two piece family friendly. The bottoms are all too low cut. We need something between the up to the waist 50's bottoms, and the barely there bikini bottoms. And that includes having enough booty material in back too.
Sometimes simple is best. Personally, I'd be happy with a nice one-piece swimsuit, since it's suitable for young and old characters alike. I must have converted Sadie's original swimsuit to G2F (and now G3F) more times than I can count. It can't be healthy on a model to go through so many interations.
...I'm that way with aircraft. Studied aeronautics and (save for the old Biplane, the Bizjet, and a Cessna for toon characters [which actually looks pretty "real"]), most of the fixed wing aircraft I see would have serious lift and/or stability issues. I mean it doesn't have to be a carbon copy of a Boeing 787, F-18, or Piper Aztec, but should still look like something you'd actually see at an airport.
As to the main topic, I cannot help but agree with the OP. Yeah I know skimp sells but it seems that the variations on the skimpy, exposed belly, low cut neckline, and spike heel styles have run their course and are beginning to look very repetitive.
However there is the occasional gem, like the reasonably styled business suit ensemble currently in the store. Almost put it on the wishlist until I saw it was for G3F.
That is so true. support your favorite PAs, they decide on what to make, based on what we buy during intro sales.
I must agree, that there just two handfuls of artists who can create really good clothes like Mec4D, Luthbel, Frances Coffill or Esha (just to name a few). Most other clothes creators just do underwear and shoes.
But the current amount of clothes for G3F let me think, that this figure has problem with long dresses and gowns (especially when you see, what happens when one use Autofit for G2F for long drersses on G3F).
Of course I would not mind G3F either...
There are precious few of those in the real world. :)
Anything I paint looks alien .... ;)
I'm not too bothered by G3, because I have a backlog of 253 items on my wishlist to get through. Sheesh.
As for the topic... yeah. I want more stuff people actually WEAR (business suits are on my wishlist).
Also, for scifi stuff? I'm a huge fan of the Supersuit for Genesis. I splurged on the pro suite, and I don't regret it for a second. Everything from medieval armor to skin tight whatevers to future soldiers, plus a bunch of other content tossed in.
Supersuit is a bit of a bear to customize (it has like a billion surfaces, so getting a pattern of your own liking across all the zones can be... time-consuming), but it covers sooo much ground.
To illustrate my point, I sometimes use genital textures, so clothing is not always an issue.
However, when I want armour, I want it to look like the guys armour, convering every inch of his body - you know like armour should; not be another excuse to display acres of female flesh. It isn't just about catering to the ones that want to creat something to mimic the various MMOs out there that feel two skimpy pieces of armour actual work. :)
Nicstt: Yeah, I often end up doing male armor on women, because it isn't so goofy. (assuming I don't use supersuit)

Here' another one bored by this stuff too. Where's the originality, the imagination? Check the fashion magazines for, the history books the arts in the museums and galleries! Not to mention the people in the street.
And of course warrior women in high heels is beyond daft! I always trade in ridiculous foorwear for ankle boots when I dress upp my amazons.
The major issue with Unique Sci-fi stuff, is The Big three Franchises (StarWars, StarTrek, and DR.Who) and many of the smaller once (Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Buck Rodgers, etc) have been around for over 50 years, and while many of the early stuff might be laughable now (rubber suits with visiable zippers, body paint, bits and pieces of latex stuck every which way) , it is really hard to come up with a Unique Humanoid form, that doesn't in some way resemble something that has been done already. Same can be said for ship designs, and many have gone off the deep end to get a unique look, that would make the ship highly impractical. The key seems to be to make something that is just different enough to not be a copy. For myself, I'm trying real hard not to use reconizable characters or ships/uniforms, but sometimes it can be difficult. I'm currently trying to come up with a organic ship design I like, but keep ending up with something akin to Gomtuu from ST:TNG
I don't mind the high heels on everything so much as I have a tendency to stick my figures in shoes completely inappropriate to the environment just for giggles. But it's frustrating how much of the adventurewear comes with a high risk of a serious wardrobe malfunction if the figure moves or even inhales a little too deeply. If the top requires healthy doses of double-sided tape to keep everything from spilling out, especially in an era when said tape doesn't exist, then I'm not going to even look past the store thumbnail and move on to something else.
The boob windows are an advertisement to "insert arrow here".
I buy shoes and boots for my dollies, but make my own clothes in Marvelous Designer 4. That way I can fit them individually to the character I'm working with at the moment. I will occasionally buy a clothing model from Aeon Soul--such as their Alphakini, which I love.
Sadie? easy to convert?
Don't think I've ever seen any of her stuff. Is she a character or a vendor, and which item were you specifically talking about?

If you don't like what they sell you need to make your own stuff. Part of being an artist is expressing your vision. If you aren't interested in putting in the effort to do so you can't really fault others for not catering to you.
dont get me wrong, i still love skimpwear but I have countless skimpy outfits already. So I am not knocking the skimpwear or boob windows. I just don't have a need to buy it. When I make my own clothes they tend to be even skimpier than the stuff sold here...
If I was an vendor I would make what sells best because of the time investment needed preparing it for the store. To sell stuff on the markets requires a ton of extra work you don't have if you simply make stuff to use for yourself. Great thing about stuff I make for myself is I don't have any interest in sharing or selling it, so less than optimal rigging, UV's or other setup issues aren't a problem.
PAs choose what to make next based on what sold well previously. If skimpywear sells well during intro, that's what gets made next time. If you see something you like, buy it during intro, the PA will know that's what people want, the make more of that kind of product. So skimpywear isn't what I can use, but if I see a nice armor for females, or fully dressed uniform, or anything that has nice realistic folds and wrinkles, I tend to grab during intro. Might cost a couple bucks more, but it sends a message to the PA, hey I want to see more of this kind of clothes. Plus keeping them fed means they'll keep delivering the goods.
...and easier to make.
i think that was implied in my first post. Make the simple stuff relatively quick, make a few bucks. And they sell. Do it early (and often), but earlier the better. Before market is flooded :)
Its a tricky balancing act between creating what sells and what we should sell. I agree with what your saying but the very premise of DAZ3d is that the product has a low cost and hopefully wide audiance... with the hopes of selling thousands to millions of units, you'll need word of mouth and product stability. PA's are going to have to get behind the product and the engine and realize that our art form is a collective of artist working together towards a common goal of making great expressions that are easy for anybody to do...
I want you to be successful because then you can be "fed" simply by creating more of the great products we've come to expect from you and hopefully, you can sell it off so cheaply to a mass market... what that means is that we all work together to expand your market, I don't want to be the only one whose bought the Sci-Fi Living Qaurters or the Surban Malls that needs an expansion pack to make the stores look full LOL
Looking forward to seeing a lot more HDRI enviroments, Heck... do one in a friends back yard or at a swimming pool.. just keep creating. May your life be filled with abundance.. I'd love to see a Utopia setting too. Thanks for all you do.
It is not about creating something that doesn't sell; it certainly isn't a moral issue for me, I just like some variety.
I choose to keep my work focused on the positive aspects and prefer sunshine and rainbows for myself but I strongly agree with you on variety but then to me 'What we should sell" is high qaulity packages that we can expand and build on. If all thats coming out is the ten dozen different variations of skimpwear for every character, then what we don't get are the high qaulity options... If you look at several new releases one of the first things you have to ask is are the clothing 3 dimensional? So often we see critical errors on outfits like Jeans that have no front pockets or zippers, buttons or some means of securing them?

That to me is the type of product nobody should bother selling and it reminds me of so many other products that keep getting rushed out for the sake of having a product on time and on a budget. I'll have to wait for something better and it will probably cost a little more but it'll be worth it in the long run.
Peace
There's only so much skimpwear/underwear and bodysuits you're going to use.... not even going to start on yet another gen7 female while we do not have a gen7 male yet.
:(
There was an SF bundle a little while ago that seemed to sum up the whole genesis clothing scene. The male character got a fairly practical looking spacesuit and the female character got a bizarre spacesuit with big holes in it that would definitly not be safe to wear in a vacuum
Vendors want to make stuff that sells and this stuff obviously does, but I hope there is a decent market for more reasonable clothes as well.
Frankly, if you want more mundane stuff it already exists. It may not be for the generation you are using, but with tools you can adapt them to work. I would leverage this ability and master it!
I've been thinking about this. I find autofit is a bit unpredictable, sometimes it works fine but not allways. I suppose at the other end of the difficulty spectrum you could just take the obj file and re-rig it. Are there any intermediate level methods you can suggest for converting clothes?
