Seriously. Tell me about it. I'm a bit taller at 5'5" & am the shortest human in the house. (6' husband, 5'10 son, 5'7" daughter) If it's higher up than 6 foot, I need a stepstool to reach it, and 9 times out of 10 that's not enough & someone else still has to get it for me.

Fourth grade (age 10 or 11) is the last time I was tall; most of my classmates were shorter than me, but by 5th grade, it seemed like everyone was taller than me, except for my 5'0" teacher.

EDIT: posted this before I saw Cybersox's post about average heights. By that I am right at average for a woman, so why do I still seem to be shorter than 80% of the women I see?

Those were the average heights for Utah, where DAZ is based as of 2002 .  Other parts of the country and world are different, and average heights do change.  Here in Texas, the average height of men is going down as hispanic men are shorter and they make up an increasingly larger part of the gene pool.  On the other hand, the average height in Japan has been going up.

And then there's me, who used to be 6' 1" but am now only hitting 6' on a good day....

    Poof!  You're a cat!

  • I don't have any problems with this release, and I will most likely buy Tika when I work out that the price is right.  I don't care about "gene pools"  or trolling about white skinned anime dolls being dominant in the market.  I agree that Tika is another fairy.  Is that really a problem, or just another excuse for trolls to come onto a forum and rant about how "Offended" they are about minutiae details?

In the 'REAL' world, I'm as cynical as they come.  In the world of Fantasy and Media, I'm a romantic at heart.  Thorne's and others' visions of Aiko 3 fairy dolls are what dragged me into this world of being a 'Wanna Be Render Artist'.  And I am truly a Wannabe.  When I spend the time to arrange and render a scene, I don't want reality.  I get that everyday through other sources.

I like it, I'll be buying it.  Sorry if some people feel that this will degrade the 3DG world at large.

    Thank you.

I suspect most people drag their soapbox about on their ankle, so it's always at hand ;-)  I doubt anyone was seriously offended.  PA's, like any other kind of marketed artist, are at the often rough mercy of their customer base.  Many of the comments here, though, seem more narrowly aimed at Daz and their marketing choices (or mishaps) than the artist - even my comment about flat looking eyes is likely more a criticism of the images chosen to advertise the product than neccessarily the product itself.

Thorne always does AMAZING promos that make me throw whatever it is directly into my cart.. If I were still a child, I’d put them on my wall lol. Daz seriously should pay him/her to do them for their Daz Originals. I know if it’s a Thorne character, the eyes are going to be adorable as are all the characters. I often think Daz’s choice of marketing promos for their original characters is rather poor compared to when the PAs do their own promos for their individual products. That’s why I often check here or @Novica’s art thread for other forum members’ renders or try, I hope, if I can, to show the products in a better light than the Daz promos or at least show alternate versions and love it when others do the same.

Everyone has different tastes though. I passed on Sydney, Tasha and Chow, but I knew right away I liked Tika, even if I have similar models. Some people dislike pretty White girls with a passion, but it’s mostly what I use. So I think it’s good that Daz has something for everyone, and I am one of the people constantly disgruntled with their marketing, glitching prices, errors, etc... But the products I love...

@wickedxxangel I've been really disappointed in how negative many people have been on the forum lately, so I hear ya. There must be something in the air - lots and lots of negativity. This one is actually super tame compared to some of the awful comments that were in the babies thread. lol Thank goodness people have reigned that back a bit. On the plus side though, Tika 8 pro bundle shot to the top of the What's Hot list very quickly and is holding there, so apparently quite a few people like her. I'm glad. :)

I vaccumed everything Tika related up asap, and your product.  Can't wait to play with all of the new goodies!

Oh awesome! Thank you! I hope you like it and have fun rendering the toon girls! heart

Well, yeah sure she's a Thorne Doll.  But I like Thorne Dolls.  Also Marcius characters.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger.  Thanks for the art shares guys and gals!  Helped make this decision easier.

Probably should have waited until tomorrow to see if the next sale tied in to this one, but I didn't want to take the chance of stuff being deleted from the sale.  That happens rarely, but often enough to be a consideration.  The cart price was a bit steeper than what I'd usually like to see (over $80) but I'm happy with my associated sales pics.  The $20 off of each of five different categories is a bit annoying though.  Still, $100 off is better than $0 off...

I always had an extreme fondness for the Thorne Pabu promo picture... such a wonderfully sulky look!  I think I bought it for that, alone :-)  None of the promo page pics for Tika seemed to have that kind of style... there aren't even any faeries (I know, just because a figure has big eyes doesn't mean she has to be a faerie, but, c'mon... just one?)

I don't see, really, how anyone could be classifying Tika as a 'pretty white girl', though... the lack of distinct epicanthal fold says Asian, to me.

I may be wrong, but the promo with the black hair and black and silver outfit looks a bit Thorn-ish and is my favorite...

Constructive critism is a part of...everything. If all the forum comments were only praise, then Daz would never learn why people decide not to buy something. This is an important thing for a business to understand, and the critical comments are just as vital the praise, perhaps even more so. The user base can change over the years, and what worked 10 years ago might not today. The companies that embrace their criticism and adjust to the changing markets are the ones that will succeed for the long term.

There is also more on the table here than just a character. This character is packaged as a bundle, and involved in other offers. These are just as important as the character itself. Some might like the character, but not the deal.

I said I think she is cute, but that isn't enough for me. I already have plenty of pretty white girls. (Wow that sounds weird, LOL.) I also have several Thorne girls, too. If I am going to get another, she needs to do something new, or be really special, or maybe have a fantastic bundle deal. These are not consumable items, they are not food. I love eating Italian. I eat it all the time. But I don't need to buy the same or similar 3D content all the time like I do Italian.

  • Inside the base promos?  The one with the fantasy armour?  I really like that one, she has expression and her eyes have depth.  I wish they would have used one of the inside pics as the advertising pics... they are generally much better than the others.

I think it's mostly iRay eyes that weird me out.

They got closer... there's a Cow.  At least it starts with 'C'...

  • Why?

There is nothing new or unique here. Typical Thorne doll. There is no HD. There is no gen mat. The bundled items seem to be totally random. The ballcap hair is kind of neat, but makes no sense with a fairy themed character. There are mildly scifi outfits mixed in. A long hair that could be any long hair.

I don't shop for discounts...I shop for content. The content needs to win me over more than the discount does. I am past that stage. The content here just isn't exciting to me. And I like cute things!

Tika is kind of cute of cute, but like I said, not remotely new. Someone said that G8 actually lacks these characters...what? There are morph sets for the precise purpose of turning ANY character into a character like this. Any character! And that is on top of the fairy style characters we already have. I once did a count and found that fairy like characters were more represented in the Daz Original 8 lineup than actual real minorities. That number may have changed a bit after Mr Woo and Mrs Choo, but fairies are still very well represented. There has also been a large variety of non DO characters in this genre. There was a Thorne doll released just a couple weeks ago. How is Genesis 8 lacking these types of characters?

Not only that, but Anakku has a lot more options than Tika does. Anakku has a more unique look and a Pacific Islander vibe going on...something that is genuinely under represented at Daz. If we must do Thorne characters for Daz Originals, why couldn't Anakku have been chosen for that instead of Tika?

I noticed it as well that Tika 8 doesn't have any Anatomical Elements mats, nor does it give you this feature for Genesis 8 like most of the other adult pro packs. Nevertheless, it wasn't a complete deal-breaker for me since I'm more interested in having the base for Suki and the additional morphs for mixing things up with the other bases. I'm fairly certain that Silver's characters for Tika 8 do include the gens textures, so its not a complete loss for those that need to have the full monty, so to speak, on their Tika 8 character bases.

This is one of the reasons I invested in Skin Builder. When I don't like the makeup options or brows that come with the character, I won't be restricted and will have the option to add my own touches. I hate dealing with requesting refunds and if I can find a workaround, I go for the workaround. If the skin is really that bad to the point that no amount of adjustments in the surface editor will fix, I'll use a completely different skin.

The problem I feel is people complain about the 'negativity' possibly without realising that their post is in itself very negative, complaining about people expressing their opinions in a manner that is a bit like a school marm telling off 5 year olds, isn't exactly positive either.

I must agree we (a plural that includes I) are a bit spoiled silly by DAZ during the G3 and G8 aera.....so many great looking characters, dForce cloting we (see previous remark) all screamed for, far out characters (not my cup of coffee) with character even. Even strand rendered hair (that I live to see that day, amazing). And now we do what all spoiled brads do, we complain (or we complain about complaining).

Now I like the look of Tika which says Manga but does not throw it attached to Thors hammer in your face (like Sakura 8 did which is fine but not my cup of coffee (I don't do thee)). What I would have liked (always like) is more attention to detail when it comes to texturing, some of the promo renders of miss Tika's outfits look a bit flat (can be the render also, flat lighting equals flat textures) and I'm a bit spoiled by Square Enix and Eidos Montreals clothing sported by lady Croft, hell these dudes know there way around PBR. I bought some extra textures as extra's and if all else failes I make my own. It's not that hard if you have a healthy dose of Substance on you PC.

Greats......and keep up the good work DAZ!

I'd love a cat; don't care about dog 8, but glad we've had - as it had been so long since we had had one.

I like Tika 8; will get eventually - just not sure if it will be before the offer runs out; I have lots of cute, but more is always welcome - I just don't need.

What's surprising, is that there are few renders of Tika 8; considering how popular she is it is surprising.

Normall we get a mixture of negative comments from those who either haven't got what they want (or have a criticism they've found), and renders from those who bought the character and like it or one of the add-on characters.

I wasn't expecting a new bundle until next week, so seeing her this morning caught me by surprise. She's more toony and youthful than I was hoping for, but I still really like Tika. I need\use a veriaty of styles and age groups and I love the base character. Not too happy with the sale, but I got a nice purple banner and Daz caught me on pay day. I'm thinking tonight when I get off work or tomorrow morning.

Nice! I love the expression! One of the problems I have with Thorne characters is the size of the head relative to the body. I get that's part of the design asthetic, and that I can change it with scaling, but it just seems "off" to me when the characters are right out of the box. Still, you've made it look about right for a young character here. The head and face are large, but not "Faerie Large", if you get my point./p>

That couldn't be right for Utah, sorry. Average heights and shoe sizes for men have become more and more exaggerated since the 80s.

Thanks @ALLIEKATBLUE and @LosingSignallaugh I played with her a lot last night and discovered that with just a few tweaks, she can look almost realistic and of any ethnicity, like, of course, characters are supposed to which is why most of us buy up morphs lol...

Here I made her into a baby. I switched the eyebrows to Suki’s and mixed with Caryn. Everyone was so against Tika, that I made it a point to try out fun new things with her and the more I do, the more I love her!

    Thanks @Zai

Here I tried again to make her a bit more realistic and used Suki’s eye makeup which can be used on every character! I also used Suki’s eyebrows and eyes. Personally, I think she can be transformed into probably the most realistic teen character at Daz! I was up till like 5:00 AM playing with her because I felt like a kid again again playing with dolls or drawing my own paper dolls lol...

@Jardine thanks! Yes, I knew I could try fun things on her... And because so many complained about too many White girls, here I just used the highest translucency skin setting and just tweaked the translucency color a bit, and tada, not a White girl! Used Suki’s eyes and brows and added in some LaTonya morph. I also have an Asian version but I’m posting too much already lol. They are more artistic than totally realistic but it shows you can do more with a “Thorn doll” than just fairies...

  • I don't think it's disrespecting either the artist or Tika fans to point out that I am not buying her because I have no use for this type of character. I seldom use G8. I don't do anime style art. It's been years since I did a fairy project, and I already have sufficient suitable content if I decide to do another. I have plenty of female teen characters from Genesis/G2/G3 already.

If Tika is what you want & need, I am happy for you & I hope you'll be happy the next time I find something I really love.
