Here's my interpretation of Bridget 8. I assume she was named and released for St Patrick's Day. I modified her face to look more like some of my Irish relatives, thin lips, shorter, rounder head, wider cheekbones, deepe
r set eyes, thicker neck, and other details. Most of my Irish relatives have strong faces and necks,  and especially thin lips, and rarely wear makeup.

    Beautiful Render, IceScribe!

The tabletop gaming is still alive and well, I guess. I walked into a comic shop about a year ago and they were playing Warhammer 40k. lol I had to do a double take - I can't believe people are still playing that. Good for them though, as I remember it was a lot of fun. Sadly I'm too old for that kind of thing now. People in their 30s probably look a bit funny playing Warhammer with a bunch of teens and early 20-somethings. lol

my son worked at a big gaming store... they have a room with a lot of tables and its filled with gamers playing games ...

When I was growing up at the very earliest point in computer games, a typical gamer would have had the image of the generally not sporting, teens at the time... It was us computer nerds that were driving the game scene as we were excited about even the simplest type based adventure games and little blips on the screen that acted as spaceships and laser beams. If I were to say what was my image of a gamer, I'd say it was a lanky teen with glasses or not, with jeans Converse low-tops, and a concert or some other type of black T-shirt. Of course, only a few people actually look like this. But that is still an image that I have in my mind. So I can't say I really blame anyone for deciding they have their own image of what a gamer must be. so they can call Bridget a gamergirl if they like. I'm not sure there's really any reason to take offense at the notion. :-)

The term Gamer preceded computer games by quite a bit, as the original use of the term refered to those of us who'd started with a bagfull of dice and some grid paper. At that point the caricature leaned more towards a hippie-ish description.  I think the more classic "nerd" description took hold around the time things moved to playing card based games that could be played at school on a lunch table.

Been there, done that, got the 40-year-old tee shirt. :)

I saw a kid in Starbucks, using the peace and quiet and free WiFi with a laptop, a headset, and a program that put character sheet, player map, and so on in windows on the screen, playing one of the later D&D variants - Pathfinder, I think.  TTRPG over vidphone.  I love it.

And I have gamers from my "old" games scattered across the country now.   I got the name of the client he was using (roll20 dot net) and plan to play some Traveller with a buddy in Texas before long.

I love the social aspect of those old games. In particular I loved being the storyteller. I would spend hours the night before each game writing long and complicated adventures. My focus was always more on driving the story forward than on the strict rules of the game. But the guys I used to play with seem to love it and I enjoyed doing it for them.

The thing is, the appeal of the old school map and dice RPGs plays to an entirely different part of the brain than how computer games evolved, where the focus was on the speed of reflexes.  D&D/Warhammer and their like are about thinking yourself out of a situation using the assets that you have, complicated by the random factors generated by rolling dice.  In comaprison, I loved the early computer text games like Infocom's Zork and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy through what I think was the ultimate form of that genre in LucaArt's hilarious Monkey Island series, but even the early TSR computer games quickly started to follow the pattern set by console video games, where how fast you could operate the controls was more important than strategy and puzzle solving.

+1000 for Lucasarts. I had all of their titles including MI1&2 and Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango and the one with the Bunny and Dog detectives ... forgot the name... Years before, there was a type based war game called" Galaxy" that all the guys on my dorm floor would get together and play for hours (with plenty of cheap beer of course). I was the only guy with a computer...

Sam and Max!! I loved them. Max always had to go to the bathroom. I identified with him.

Edited to add: I had all those Lucasarts titles, too. The later Telltale stuff for Sam and Max was really good, too.

@FSMCDesigns - is that the stock shader for that character (Ellis)? Or did you do some adjustments? Either way it's an exceptional shader. DAZ should hire whoever came up with it to do the shaders for their other characters. The lighting is very good as well. That image is much better than the promo images for the product.

Are Genesis 8 skins/shaders backward compatible to Genesis 3?

I just checked and Bridget’s head is at 0%! So I’m not sure why it says it requires Bridget...?  I loaded the figure directly from Smart Content so all morphs should be in it. Very weird! OK, just saw that it is Bridget’s body that is at 70% but you really don’t need that, you can make whatever body you want. The head does not require Bridget!

Thanks for the info Alicia, I went ahead and poicked up Ellis based on your post.. I did a test render and really like her skin, and although I like the head morph, I turned it down to 75% because it was a little to strong, but I am happy with her, reminds me of a strong Latina character. Thanks again.

Thanks so much! Yeah, it's stock, did nothing to it for once, LOL. I like it as well, till you get close up, the bump is a little to high and not refined anough, but still great. I used the BOSS lights and tweaked them a bit for the lighting.

As for being backwards compatible, yep, just need to load it up on G8 and then save as a material preset and it will apply to G3.

Bridget is cute. Her product description totally confuses me. I'm a sucker for red-headed women with freckles. I added her to my large wishlist.

Right now, I'm scheming to see if I can gather money for a more powerful computer so I can easily handle iRay renders.

Very nice. I can never make Belladzines' girls look OK. They always render a little off or underdone (probably because I still suck at lighting). You did great. As usual.

I agree, same here. I have a few of her characters and they have this heavy ambient occlusion darkness to them, like they are heavy smokers that I can't seem to get rid of in renders. Alliekatblue did a good job!

Thanks MK. I knew we were kindred spirits. :) Even when adventure games became more arcade oriented, I liked the story driven, puzzle solving titles the best...more than just the kill everything in sight variety.

I didn't think much of Scorcha in her promos.. But this is excellent.
  • Does anyone know how I can find out, whether the outfit from Bridget8's promo picture (i.e. tie, blouse, business pants and belt) are included in the bundle and/or available separately?
I can't find any information on the product page on that.

    Thank you for your help!

It's definitely not in the bundle.  The blouse, pants, and belt all look like they are from H&C Business Suit A.  The tie, I'm not sure, but I'm getting a Gen 8 Male vibe from it.  I can't recall ever seeing a tie like that on a Gen 8 Female outfit.

On the first page of the thread @thatmorbiosegal said: "For anyone wondering about that shirt/pants/tie combination in the base figure promo, I recognize the first two as being from the H&C Business Suit A, and the latter appears to be a Back to School tie kitbashed with a third-party skull shader (p. from Renderosity?). "

Edit - I think they probably meant "Time for School" for the tie: https://www.daz3d.com/time-for-school-sweater-uniforms-for-genesis-3-female-s-and-male-s

Yeah, the knot is way too low on that one.  After a tone of fighting, I'm giving up.  The closest match I could find was what Divamakeup suggested, Time for School for Gen 3 Female.  It was an absolute bear to morph, though.  Maybe if someone did a custom job to dForce it, but the morphs and joints don't work to get you that look and neither does just throwing the Dforce modifier on and hoping for the best.

There's an addition for the thread on what articles of clothing we'd like to see!  A morphable (like tails or tentacles usually are) or fully dForce necktie for Gen 8 Female!

  • Thank you all very much.
I don't know if I'm going for the TimeForSchool packages, since I only "need" the tie - and buying the package would be overkill pricewise. But the Business Suit looks tantalizing.

@Divamakeup Sorry for asking something already answered. I actually went through all pages searching for the word "outfit" and reading the regarding posts to avoid this common forum annoyance. Didn't work out :)

There's been a huge resurgence in Warhammer recently, where "huge" translates as "between mid-2016 and mid-2018, Games Workshop's stock market value multiplied seven times over". The stock value has fallen back a little from its peak mid last year, but they're still enjoying the roaring success of their new CEO.

Originally, when they promoted someone from within the company, I assumed he'd just be a yes-man for the old CEO and would continue running the company into the ground - telling the customers what they wanted rather than listening to what they wanted. I couldn't have been much more wrong; he basically went down a checklist of almost  everything the customer base wanted, bringing back old favourite armies, re-establishing divisions of the company that had been axed for not being profitable enough (originally, they got rid of all of their niche games because they'd decided that they were "cannibalising" sales from the main games... and that just meant that everyone went to different companies!) and had the company establish a powerful social media presence (when pictures of upcoming products leak early, the response is no longer lawyers writing angry takedown notices, but instead things like "official" orientation videos for the Games Workshop leak department).

Also, in order to make this not entirely off-topic, a fresh off the graphics card render of a modified/blended Bridget 8:

Alexandra looks better here than in the promo renders for the bundle. I find her lines too harsh and the results too waxy. Perhaps I gave up on her too soon.

  • thanks brainmuffin, in my render I maxed out their sub d settings and in render settings I maxed out samples in progressive low and high to max and rendering quality to over 5 took a long time to render took 3 stages stop start to break it up was in and out of house plus didn't have it going while I slept wanted to keep an eye on it as well as fans around my computer it gets hot. Haven't used settings this high for awhile cause it takes so long but was liking seeing the tiny details in skins and muscles and Bridget looked more mature here with some stretch marks and Alex still mature but different. The picture in the attatchments part is full size zoomable so you can see that just checked main one seperate upload is zoomable too hopefully it don't get deleted like my gallery one
