I suspect like others I often buy characters just for their textures. This Bridget texture looks pretty good but like 90% of skins IMO it's way too red. I lowered the transmitted colour by about 50% saturation to pale it up a bit.

There's something wrong with the eyes but I can fix that pretty easily.

  • Gotta go with @Wonderland on this one.  No reason she has to be a nerd...

    https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/749941/

She doesn't really look like a "gamer girl" to me, at least no more so than any other human sporting two X chromosomes would.  Gamer girls can look like anything, but I don't glance at her face and peg her as the kind of person who sits in their five hundred chair, screaming bigoted slurs at people for not being great at DPS.  Though maybe she is that kind of person.  Maybe she tortures puppies on the weekends just for kicks.  Who knows what kind of monster is hiding inside that pretty white girl...

Okay, I'm tired.  Just had to get one render and one weird tangent out before bed time...

Taryn in the bundle is a gorgeous Asian!

Yup! U were right. Does she use any Bridget at all? I just noticed when I installed her that she's for "Genesis 8 Female."

I'm thinking the "gamer girl" tag was a nod to Ellen Page and her fans.

Beautiful, how much of her is Bridget? Is Bridget even necessary?

I'm torn. On the one hand, it's yet another white girl. On the other hand, I'm sketching a character right now who really fits this brief and I've not been happy with my attempts to get her working well in G8 (Isabella 7 was fantastic for her) and this might be exactly what I'm looking for. Plus either of the two hairs in the pro bundle could be pretty much exactly what I wanted for hair, so argh!

I do just happen to have a $200 gift card now and I'm getting some offers on a few other G8 pro bundles I've not picked up yet, so I might be able to scoop up some decent savings on this one.

Yeah, I’m sick of the white girls -and spamming renders with forced positivity can’t convince me otherwise-, but I ended up buying the bundle solely for the hair and clothes: Bridget and her PA characters are going to remain uninstalled for a while.

    come on, Daz. Do better.

This makes no sense at all.  You don't like the girls in the bundle, but still bought the pro/starter bundle just for the hair?  No wonder Daz keep pumping out these kind of content.  You and majority of the Daz users here complain about not wanting another caucasian girl, but still buy her bundle?  Like what?!? Not installing them dont mean nothing to them when you already forked over your money.  Daz dont care what you want, they look at what is giving them profit.  To put it short and blunt.  If you want them to change simply dont buy any of these kind of content, but i know people like you will just buy it anyways.

People on the forums are not representative of the majority of buyers.

Statistically they might be, depending on the number ratio between forum member buyers / non forum member buyers.

Taryn in the bundle is a gorgeous Asian!

She's cute, but i don't understand the point of making an asian girl with western base. Seriously the artist needed that base character? I think he/she could use Mei Lin or even just G8 female morphs.

I bought Chooli without Eva 8 in a good sale, and she's very unique character, but i just don't get the point of use Eva 8 as base for her. Eva is supposed to be "tomboy" base, Chooli is nothing like that.  For me it's like use Alexandra for a teen character, absolutely pointless.

    As for not buing POC-characters:

98 Genesis 8 Males, of which 17 are very much non-human, 11 POC characters

114 Genesis 8 Females, of which 8 are very much non- human, 27  POC characters

Characters like Vampires don't count as non-human.

So, DAZ might re-think at some point in the future? There is still enough of a market for well-made POC and non-human characters. Like believable extraterrestrians which don't look like humans with some decorations and spires attatched.

The point of base characters is to have "ingredients" you can use to create your own characters. If using a "western base" as part of the mix brings features that you like for your asian character, why not use it? Why would you have to use Mei Lin just because she's supposed to be asian? It's not like all asian women look like Mei Lin in the first place...

Someone mentioned Lee 8 not being a 'raving success'.

I feel the need to point out that the reason I didn't pick up the Lee 8 pro bundle (yet) is that the associated sale offer at the time wasn't that good, at least in my point of view.  For the year and a half up to Lee 8's release, The Daz sales team had created certain expectations r.e. Pro Bundle release sales, and Lee 8's sale was significantly less compelling.

I don't know if you were referring to my post or someone else's, but I agree. The point I was trying to make was that I don't think you can judge how successful white core characters are against POC core characters if the release deals are different, and in the case of Lee 8, way more expensive than any other G8 Pro Bundle upon release. I bought him upon release just because I really wanted it, but his (lack of?) initial sales shouldn't be attributed to the fact that he was a non-white male character. It was most definitely at least in large part attributable to him being way more expensive. I recall reading lots of comments from people who wanted to buy him, but not at those introductory price points.

I was surprised by the more expensive Asian Pro bundles too. You can be pretty sure they have the sales data from the past to support those descisions. I don't think anyone can argue that there have been fewer PA Asian characters in the Gensis 8 cycle than since at least towards the end of the Genesis 2 cycle and since DAZ 3D decides what products to accept for sale from PAs so that is strong evidence they are good sellers, if not, then they are probing for new markets. Could be DAZ accepted them on pure quality considerations as they've been very good.

Anyway, customers can still buy the individual core characters singly. Lee 8 Base and all the other bases are available that way. I bought the Ollie 8 Base that way. And sometimes I buy not the base character but a addon character to a pro bundle that I like better without the required pro bundle base character, like Tyrone for Darius 8, for example, and it still looks realistic (in a DAZ/IRay sort of way). And those are available at introductory price points that have been cheaper than the pro bundle introductory price points.

I personally like the Maxx HD Mega Pack character approach that HellBoy made because of all the skin, wetness, oiliness, bump, SSS, specularity options - it was only missing dirty & injured options. And those can be applied to other characters not just Maxx HD with different skin material images. Although understandably he didn't offer 5 or 6 head & body shapes; the way he handled the materials was super nice although I don't know how much extra sales that will bring him for all the extra effort he made.

So don't forget we shoppers have choices and flexibility and don't depend on buying every pro bundle in their entirety.

Well, i think as costumer is not nice to need to buy a base character just to have some "ingredients"  that could be added by the artist as standalone.

Worst than that, i think as costumer is not nice to buy a ProBundle of a "Game Girl" (As abstract as the concept is) and get nothing that barely reminds that concept. I mean, you can see "Dokkaebi" from Rainbow Six Siege, an asian girl that inmediately brings to your mind "Geek, gamer girl".

Now, i read that she wont even need Bridget! What's the point to include her on the Bridget Bundle?

Bridget it's a nice character, i give that. But i see her as any  other non-base character.

I bought a lot of base characters and some pro-bundles, Alexandra is one of my favorites because every product in the bundle fits perfect with her.

  • Anyone getting a blue banner on B8? I might not qualify since I haven't bought any pro bundles in the last couple of months. But I was curious. Because if a blue banner is imminent, I didn't want to go ahead and buy the pro bundle beforehand.

Yeah, pretty sure we get a fair number of female Asian characters on the PA front.

1.)  We continue to voice our opinion about the "lack of" diversity amongst the Genesis 8 and beyond line and hope DAZ listens...maybe...if the interest is there and the sales show it.  Or...

2.)  We can make use of all these wonderful resources and craft our own unique characters (which is probably what we should do anyway) and who knows...turn around and sell them (while still voicing our love for more diverse characters, but not just characters that look like us)?

Again, just my opinion.  Take it with a grain of salt. :)

Don't forget option 3, both voice our opinions and do what we can ourselves in the interim, before we're heard.

And for me, it's not a matter of skin color only, but the unique outfits we're missing out on by not having more diversity in the core character bundles. Would love, for example, Indian characters with Indian outfits. Yes, some exist in the store, but I could always use more. We're probably never going to get the variety of, say, hanfu the way we have a lot more fantasy skimpwear, but one can dream. I'm working on learning more and doing more for myself, but it's going to take a heck of a long time for me to master everything I want to be good at--working on getting better at Marvelous Designer, but I try my hand at hair, and oh boy...nothing presentable is happening any time soon, ha.

I have been wondering about this.

I assume this hobby exists in other countries such as India and China. But I have not been able to find indigenous digital item makers from those areas. Surely if people are working on content creation in those areas, there is an awareness of the need for copies of things of native costume, or dress. If anyone is aware of sources of such content please post links.

    Thanks.

"Bridget is the epitome of the modern gamer girl."

I've been a gamer for 42 years, never met any girls like her.

I'm 58 but the majority of people in my company are 20-somethings and there are actually quite a few "Bridgettes" running around.  The thing is, the definition of gamer doesn't mnean what it used to...

To me the definition of 'gamer girl' is 'female under the age of 25 or so who plays computer games', but I like Bridget :-)

For me it's a girl/woman that plays videogames just like male gamers they run the entire age spectrum...

Another white girl. Brilliant idea; we really don't have enough.

The 3D/gaming industries are largely geared towards the "majority" demographic, so you should not expect another 6th generation of inclusion for the base figures as that was a fluke; we'll just have to rely on PAs (They are the ones that are the glue that we/this company relies on!) to provide the proper range of races/cultures aside from the token black/Asian couples that daz 3d does.

That is, until the next generation replaces the old guard...

The discussion of diversity is getting a bit circular, and has drifted into ToS-forbidden areas a few times. As such it is probably time to say it has run its course.

Lately, with a banner, prices were around $40 on launch-day. This time it was around $30, so I don't think any more discount was planned for this particular bundle.

Not for B8, but I got one today for buying her pro bundle yesterday, to use with today's new releases.

Got one of those this morning as well.  After dumping a cart of items that dropped out of Still Mad status this morning that I didn't buy yesterday because the B8 Key Item bonus wasn't working...>_<
