I bought some Peterson photography books years ago.  I think I have the field guide to birds, as well.  And maybe one for astronomy.  I didn't know he started out with birding books.

Comedy is a big thing, though, so it will probably do well.

...well a bit of a break in the heat for a few days.  Cooled off nicely yesterday evening and a breeze even kicked in from the right direction so it was coming in through the window I had opened.  Still crashed out for a long time (about 11 hours) as I have been so sleep deprived. Lows dropping into the 50s for the next several days which will be nice, though need to enjoy it while I can (high of 79° tomorrow) as by Sunday, it will be back into the skillet for most of next week.

Bethesda Fountain at NYC's Central Park has a bird with a sense of humor... Or irony... I'm not sure which...

Actually, it's on the wall adjacent to the stairs in front of the fountain...

In case it's not clear, that's a stone carving of a bird... A real bird built a nest under it in such a way it looks like the stone bird is a real bird sitting in a nest.

It took me a second or two to realize I was looking at a fake bird... The real nest was confusing.

    Clever critters birds are sometimes.

The Camelot stories are considered to be apocryphal.  Or at least major distortions and embellishment of the stories of perhaps a combination of several early kings of the region. indecision Wikipedia really sucked royal swamp water back in the first millenium AD. surprise

That image, because both fairies are dressed in the same colour, manages to look as though the right hand one is ripping the dress off the left hand one, using the neck to grab it by.

...yeah I've found more often than not the side effects can be worse than the condition the drug is supposed to treat. Basically your trading one illness for another, or two, or three....

...now that top one (without the background) would make a nice tattoo. The bottom one would have to be done in a darker colour though the intricacy of the wings would be wonderful

yeah, something that says "may react with Insulin" when the patient is Insulin dependant does seem a wee bit strange to prescribe.

...my Doc had me on Metformin and a statin.  the combination of moth had me nauseous all day sometimes to the point I didn't feel like doing anything. I was told it would fade in a couple weeks but it ended up lasting for months.  Every time I went back there was no improvement in my blood sugar levels 9and then a slight slip the wrong way though still not dire enough to require insulin), but no progress.  . I read more about both drugs to find that statins can actually aggravate diabetes and msot likely that was the culprit causing the ongoing nausea. After bringing this up during a checkup I requested to be taken off the statin particularly since he was increasing the Metformin dose. He advised it wasn't a good idea but honoured my request. After a few days I no longer felt sick to my gut, and furthermore, during a subsequent checkup, my blood sugar levels had not only stabilised but began to improve.

I discovered with a bit more poking around afterwards the Statin + Metformin regimen is often a recommended S.O.P. for patients like myself and in a number of cases, it not only helped prolong the diabetic condition, but sometimes made matters worse.

My cardiologist originally prescribed Diltiazem (generic form of Carizem) to control my Atrial Fibrulation but even though it appeared to work I finally refused to take it anymore. indecision Although the usage instructions said that it takes time to aclimate in your body It gave me such terrible dreams and body & brain vibrations that after a couple weeks I refused to take it anymore and forced him to prescribe something else.angry  We switched to Atenolol and tried various dosages morning & evening to even out the daily effect.  And a couple times a year I have to have a blood test to make sure the levels are within limits but I have no disagreable side effects, my heart stays under control and I don't really worry.yes  HOWEVER, if I booger up my dosages or timing or, as recently experienced, way over indulge on salt my heart goes wonky.  Diltiazem isn't so picky about dosages or timing but it really doesn't agree with me.  But Atenolol once we got the twice daily dosages worked out, is quite satisfactory.smiley  Plus, Atenolol is way cheaper! yes

Similarly, my cardiologist wants to put me on some horribly expensive blood thinner that my insurance won't pay for.  Again, I said "NO" and we've gone back to small doses of asprin.  Sometimes you just have to make sure your doctor knows your objections.  Doctors are people and sometimes they just take the familiar path when diagnosing or prescribing.  You as a patient need to have a little knowlege of your situation and you need to be sure to report your observations and limitations to the doctor and make sure he listens. indecision  But if he says your foot is gangreen and is going to fall off tomorrow, let him have his way. surprise

Non-complaint:  A couple of days ago I threw caution to the wind and submitted to the temptation to observe another on-line auction of things I collect. indecision  I idly watched several grand things ($$$$) go by that I daren't bid on. sad But did have the fun of bidding on several really nice things ($$$) but I was able to slap my wrist and stop bidding before I got carried away or accidentally won it. frown It's always such a sad feeling to see those beautiful things get won and go to some place, knowing you'll probably never ever see them again. sad  HOWEVER,  I did win on one lot ($$) containing two items that was at the lower end of the class of items being auctioned that day.  Inexpensive but I found them delightful.  They were perfect for me.  They're hardstone carvings, they're of animals or creatures, they're small (under 2 inches), they're carved nicely and they were within reasonable price.  Both items are carved from agate (similar to what most cave stalagtites are made of).  My collection of hardstone animal carvings grows. smiley

I've made my payment, I've paid for shipping, and they're on their way.  Yay! yes

I present my new fish and dragon. heart

Nice.  That dragon is eating himself.  Oh, that sounds naughty.  blush   I know there is some meaning to the symbolism, I just forget what it is.
