Glad the same people don't set fuel volume standards for aeroplanes.

Here, avgas is dispensed in litres, but consumption is monitored in US Gallons/hour. Jet-A is dispensed in kilograms OR lbs, but monitored in lbs/hour. Planes HAVE crashed cos the pilot orderd xxx lbs, thinking he was getting kgs . . .

    Oh plane food?

  • TangoAlphaTangoAlpha Posts: 4,587

food for planes. :) 100LL (100 octane low lead) aka avgas for piston engines. A few engines are rated to run on regular car fuel (aka mogas), but these days it's often cut with too much ethanol. Jet-A, is kerosene based fuel for jet engines, turbines and diesels.

They don't have a gage to check and see if the tank is full before they leave??? Or from the brief glimpse I 've had of a jet's cockpit, there are too many dang gages to keep track of...?

Totally naive here, but it seems like checking if the fuel tank is full would be right up there on top of the things to do before I take off list.

I have often thought about investing in one of those dehydrators,  do they work well?

....this happened in the 1980s with an Air Canada 767 where an improper conversion rate (to Imperial Gallons instead of KG) was used. Thus when the aircraft was refuelled in Montreal only about 5,000 litres instead of 20,000 was added for the trip to Edmonton giving the aircraft only about half the fuel load it needed.  Air Canada's 767s were the first aircraft the airline received which had their fuel calibrated in Kilograms instead of Imperial Gallons/Pounds. Further complicating the situation was a glitch in the new aircraft's fuel quantity indicators where often times on the panel it would read empty even if the aircraft was fully fuelled. To counter this a floatstick measurement was taken at the airport before departure. to determine the fuel load and the aircraft had to released by the chief maintenance officer before departing  This is where the calibration mixup occurred.

As the aircraft passed over Winnepeg the first engine failed at cruise altitude the second shortly there after as the captain was descending. Effectively it became little more than a giant glider.  The pilots skillfully set the aircraft down at an abandoned RCAF airbase totally "deadstick" (no power) with no major injuries to passengers or crew and only minor damage to the aircraft when the nose gear collapsed on touchdown (which actually helped slow it down as without engines, there were no thrust reversers).

I am angry.  I set up a ride to go to a mandatory meeting and the ride never came.  Hopefully I will not get fired because of this.  I have no way to get to the work meeting now.

Seems very strange to set up a mandatory meeting on a Sunday evening.

I think that they do,I've made dried onions ,and then dried the apple slices and dehydrate potato slices ,I find they keep better dried out too I do admit I've had the dehydrator for 10 years and have only used it a dozen times

Hopefully you can give your HR  or manager the name of the company you set up the ride with.

Yeah unfortunately the majority of the premade stuff is loaded with salt to make it taste edible ........at least once a month I make my own big pot of soup , and freeze it into 1 and a half cup serveings to eat later and use different spices such as ginger and cayenne  pepper ,(just a touch not enough to burn ) or Mrs. Dash , for seasoning
