If you need an asian character for gen 8, this thread - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/250251/kaylee-8 has a LARGE list of them about half way down on the first page.
For what I am doing I need more fey characters than real world people, and I probably wont get Mei Lin 8 when she does eventually come out, but I respect that you may need her.
I think Mika 8 is beautiful and I will definetly be getting her.
I would love to, but I don't have Mika 7 unfortunately.
Mika
Mika 7 (left) and Mika 8 (right) "out of the box" (but with Mika 8's "Translucency Low" setting (click to enlarge):
@Thorne, which Mika is this? She's a doll
Thanks Diva, I didn't know you could do that in the surfaces map. So far I'd only swapped make up with one click swapping - though it does not work on everything, as you note.
Take a look at ALL of Thorne's models. Their eyes all look like this, its very much part of his theme with his characters. Every single one of them has huge eyes and thick lashes. All the way back to his V4 models. Its one of my favorite things about his models.
Thorne is a woman =)
Try; all the way back to gen2 characters. There are a number of her characters for the Mil Girls still in the store. Mostly in the PC collection. Those "Anime-scaled (although not styled) eyes" predated Aiko3.
Although Thorne and Aiko3 were a perfect match.
Huzzah! Its the weekend and I finally get to sit down and play with Mika. So I lay out the character; add the hair, clothes, and anatomy; put in a piece of environment, set to a huge scale to fit the tiny character and reposition it; fiddle with the HDRI settings until I get a decent light on the character; run through some test renders; finally get everything set up the way I want and make it halfway through the render... and Daz crashes. And oh look! I didn't bother to save the scene before the render. &#$@.... Wouldn't have been so cheesed off if I wasn't rendering on an old laptop with Intel graphics that makes Iray renders take 5 hours. Maybe I should lay off the Daz purchases for a while and save my pennies for a decent computer...
Anywho... Straight Mika 8 render using stock textures, Dewdrop outfit, Fantastical Sprite Wings, Bronwyn Hair, and OnFleek Eyebrows and Eyelashes. I tweeked the texture for the lips to reduce the Glossy Reflectivity, as they came out silver in the test renders. Overall, kind of like the character. I don't much with fairy characters, so I'm not jumping up and down over her, but the skin texture and makeup actually works pretty well. There looks to be some graininess to the skin, but I'm pretty sure that's my lighting or render settings, like I need a higher enviroment resolution or something.
She's beautiful. I just picked up the pro bundle this morning :) Thankyou so much for your work.
Now the obligatory daz question - what hair is that.
Typical OOT style - I'd bet on this one:
https://www.daz3d.com/liv-hair-for-genesis-3-female-s-and-genesis-8-female-s
Lovely! The eyebrows appear significantly different than the standard Mika 8. Is this a specific add-on character or did you use something else?
Very beautiful.
I think the style that Thorne offers really needs the Elf ears, as without it, they look like weird humans. They look very natural with the elf ears; the ears also mitigate (to an extent) that young look as they become something alien.
Good point; it does make some difference.
Their face shapes are similar, but it is Thorne's style; it seems that cute is very popular. I like cute as much as anyone (still need some cute house cats), but also welcomed the Ollie and Edie.
People's face shapes are often similar; it is our own 'skin-textures' that provide a good deal of the difference in many cases. And sometimes textures are similar and the under-lining bone structure provide more of the differences.
We can't swap the textures of folks (yet) to compare.
Is that Mika 8???? She looks so adorable and very different from the promos and posted renders here...
Hi, thanks for the nice comments :) Yes that image is Mika 8, one of my proof of concept renders. The texture used in that image is one of my own, but I did not make the texture maps that come with Mika 8.
Oh and yes the hair is Liv hair by OutOfTouch. :)
Thanks Diva. This helps a lot.
Well, I had a 50/50 shot at getting it right lol.
Personally (and this is just me), when it comes to Daz PAs, I've learned to err on the side of woman. lol Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of male PAs, but MANY are women too. And if I "assume woman" it makes up a teeny tiny bit for the decades of being online and people assuming I'm male (particularly in the online gaming community). lol In a perfect world we'd have perfect gender-neutral terms to call people until we know for sure, but this world is far from perfect. :P
I for one really like her! She has an ethereal beauty to her, and she'll be great fun for a sorceress or fairy. Or even a sorcerous fairy. I do agree that her base makeup is a bit over the top, but that has it's places as well, and as other's have said you can use the makeup from other characters on her. I used one of the makeups from Aiko 8 on her here.
Here's a better one with far less clipping going on, lol. I really need to learn to not trust the normal viewport with out checking it over in iRay. I swear that thing lies to me, I'm fairly certain the clothes under that dress wasn't visible till I rendered it out.
Beautiful character! Glad I picked up the Pro Bundle.
With all this talk about "over the top" makeup for Mika 8, I think it may be time to resurrect an old thread on "stealing" makeup. While it's true there are many G8F figures/characters with LIE or Diffuse Layer makeup now that can be used interchangably, there are still many that use face texture maps for the makeup options. And using this technique, you can also use makeup from any of the G3 base females on your G8 and vice-versa.
I've even used the Transfer Map Utility converting G2F face textures to a G3 template first to convert G2 makeup for use on G3. (I used the "Genesis 2 Female" UV provided by Cayman Studio's Legacy UVs product for G2F on G3F.)
With the Diffuse Overlay layers, it's now MUCH easier to "steal" makeup. No need to transfer maps. Just load a Diffuse Overlay makeup onto your character and then change the "Diffuse Overlay Color" image to a face texture that has the makeup you want to use.
If you have Aiko 8, Edie 8, or Monique 8 you can load their makeup onto any G3 or G8 character - you can then switch out the Diffuse Overlay Color map for any face map with makeup on it. It also tends to work better if you switch the white color out for a medium gray color:
Great tip - thanks!!
If Mika had been released with that proof-of-concept texture I'd have bought her in a heart beat. Any possibility of that skin being released?
Yes, o
Do you have a link?I believe it's basically the same skin that is on my latest release, Lara, with different eyebrows.
BTW I just wanted to say I love these artistic renders :)
