If Mika had been released with that proof-of-concept texture I'd have bought her in a heart beat.  Any possibility of that skin being released?

The Mika 8 texture is really interesting and kind of unique, imo. You can't really tell it very clearly with her default skin settings, but with Altern8 it really brings out her skin specks and freckles. I kind of love Mika 8's skin - it's unlike any of the other skins I have.

Here is her skin texture with Altern8 (the shape is Mika 8 50% and Alexandra 8 50% - with minor eye and chest size adjustments):

I believe it's basically the same skin that is on my latest release, Lara, with different eyebrows.

BTW I just wanted to say I love these artistic renders :)

Lara was an insta-buy so it's nice to know I have the texture.  (I was so taken by her face that I hadn't really looked at her coloration.)  So far I'm not getting the same skin color with Lara as your Mika render but playing with the skin settings I've managed a very lovely Hispanic coloration.  I may have to pick up Mika now if I can get close to your version of her.  No offense to who ever did her skin textures, but that makeup really over (eye) shadowed the character itself.

Any hope of a male counterpart to Mika or Lara?

    Thank you :)

The other maps make a big difference in that regard - I checked that scene file and the skin maps are the same (except for the eyebrows) but the shader configuration and auxilliary maps (SSS, spec, bump, etc) used in my image are not from Lara but are from Sage for Genesis 3 Female.

And yes there is a male counterpart for Lara in development now :)

Hi, thanks for the nice comments :)  Yes that image is Mika 8, one of my proof of concept renders. The texture used in that image is one of my own, but I did not make the texture maps that come with Mika 8.

Oh and yes the hair is Liv hair by OutOfTouch. :)

I wouldn't have hesitated purchasing for a second if Mika 8 came with that texture! The horrible garish makeup really turned me off and I had a huge feeling it wasn't yours. I'm sorry to say that the Daz textures really ruined your model. Why oh why didn't they use your textures??? And have you do the promos even if it means paying you more? I bet the sales for this would have quadrupled for Daz if this was the texture and you did the promos...

Oh I was writing this it seems just as you posted. I guess you saved the good texture for yourself! Lara is adorable and I will be getting her. Now I know if I add her texture to Mika 8 (or any other decent texture,) she can look cute!

Excellent, wouldn't want to miss out. Loving Mika 8!

Cool, I have Sage and Mika too!   The skin on your promo is one of the best I have ever seen!   I agree that Daz should have used that as the primary promo image.

    Male counterparts would be great.

  • I'm with Divamakeup on this one, I think her skin is beautiful, and the subtle freckles are really cute. I need to experiment a bit more myself with Altern8 (I have it but haven't tried it out too much yet, seams amazing, but I'm still a bit new with customizing stuff too much in Daz) and try to pull them out like that render you made with the Mika and Alexandra mix.

Well I hope it comes with full out Elf-wear & Peter Pan sorts of pro bundle things. I might then buy both the Mika 8 & Peter 8 (or whatever) Pro Bundles.

Huzzah!  Its the weekend and I finally get to sit down and play with Mika.  So I lay out the character; add the hair, clothes, and anatomy; put in a piece of environment, set to a huge scale to fit the tiny character and reposition it; fiddle with the HDRI settings until I get a decent light on the character; run through some test renders; finally get everything set up the way I want and make it halfway through the render... and Daz crashes.  And oh look!  I didn't bother to save the scene before the render.  &#$@....  Wouldn't have been so cheesed off if I wasn't rendering on an old laptop with Intel graphics that makes Iray renders take 5 hours.  Maybe I should lay off the Daz purchases for a while and save my pennies for a decent computer...

Anywho...  Straight Mika 8 render using stock textures, Dewdrop outfit, Fantastical Sprite Wings, Bronwyn Hair, and OnFleek Eyebrows and Eyelashes.  I tweeked the texture for the lips to reduce the Glossy Reflectivity, as they came out silver in the test renders.  Overall, kind of like the character.  I don't much with fairy characters, so I'm not jumping up and down over her, but the skin texture and makeup actually works pretty well.  There looks to be some graininess to the skin, but I'm pretty sure that's my lighting or render settings, like I need a higher enviroment resolution or something.

I like this scene you made with the magical tree in her hand.

Regarding the lighting you mentioned - the image seems a bit dark to me.

Try moving your fstop down about 4_5 stops, under your camera settings.  That should bring the overall exposure up without changing the light balance.

@cdpro_2831bbd990 "Try moving your fstop down about 4_5 stops, under your camera settings. "

Changing exposure in Tone Mapping would be a better choice. Less chance of unwanted results in other renders of the scene.

Personally, I think 4 or 5 stops is way too much. Scene author wouldn't had such a long render if they had used more light.

I did a few quick renders with the suggested changes. The first is dropping the camera's f-stop 4.5 stops. It definitely ups the brightness of the image, butnis not overpowering. The second is with the exposure value set 1 down. Also good (I tried setting it down to 8 and that went poorly...), but it's definitely brighter than just the f-stop shift. Then the third on has two ghost lights added and aimed at Mika. Of the three, I think the lights complement her skin tone best.

Something a bit OT I'm wondering about is that if I add a bunch of lights to an image, then increase the exposure value or shutter speed, can I get the darker image I might be looking for on top of the faster render time for the extra lights? I ask because I was playing with another image than had Scene lights only for spooky effect, but it took over 6 hours to reach 40-ish percent convergence.

EDIT: And now the comments won't let me attach the images...

EDIT EDIT: And there it is... weird.

    @LosingSignal

If you wanted your render to keep an overall darker theme, but have Mika pop a bit, you could focus a spotlight on Mika (whole body, upper body, or face) and use a lowish lumenosity setting for the spot along with geometry to keep soft shadows.

Yes. One of the main uses of tonemapping.

Reminder: Mika 8 is still on sale! I wasn't going to, but I finally caved tonight. She's adorable. I already have stuff like her, but the Pro bundle is great. Now I just have to use it all!

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but I installed the Fantastical Sprite Wings for Genesis 8 that came with the Mika 8 Pro Bundle using DAZ connect, and all I see are little picture frames with triangles in them, and it says that an error occurred when reading the file when I try to load the wings. Is that a problem that is on my end or is it a problem with the product itself, and should I put a support ticket in? None of the other Mika 8 content I bought seems to have that problem.

I have the same problem, so it's not you. I'm putting in a ticket now.

Fantastical Sprite Wings has had an update and now works as expected with DAZ connect.
