Wow! Great lighting FX!!!
Very well done! Photo references can be a big help.
Intersellar Wagon Train
The old Generic SCI-FI Corridor it was for 3DL but renders great in Iray.
Thanks! :)
..well haven't been aroundthese parts for a while. Part due to RL stuff, part due to an upgrade in progress. 15 pages or so later finally caught up.
Some really nice pics here (particularly love the Kit and Flutterby one as well as the "silly" fey/alien girl with Mrs Hedgehog's hair - I actually like it).
Yeah not been doing much with Iray lately, hence no submissions. Sort of burned out on the long CPU render times and with GPU prices spiking like they are (Crikey 1070s for over 900$ and 1080 Ti's more expensive than a Titan Xp), looks like I'll be stuck in the "slow lane" for a long time. Parris' IBL Master has also breathed new life into 3DL for me. I am really impressed with the quality in a fraction of the time it takes to render in Iray or even using UE. So heading back to 3DL for a while.
For anyone trying to run Iray on a budget:
gtx 970 is $200-250, and does a decent job. It’s what I use and while it might not handle big scenes... it works pretty darn well.
If you don’t mind the lower realism of default 3dl, consider cutting corners on Iray scenes. You can dramatically improve render times if you are willing to clean up the image in an image editor.
...4 GB is not enough to hold most of the scenes I create so I'd end up in CPU mode most of the time.
If one is satisfied with 3DL quality why not just use 3DL and avoid having to mess around in post?
I don’t know.
My comments are directed at anyone trying to run Iray on a budget. If that doesn’t apply, that’s not who I’m talking to.
And I’ve managed to render lots of fairly large scenes on a GTX 970.
Who knows, maybe people don’t need as big scenes.
@DustRider, @Knittingmommy
The only thing I did was increase the strength of the emissive output of the gold 'flowers' and made the swan emissive. The HDRI sky is one I made in Bryce.
