Diva the Traveler's Naturals props are also really useful in making nature environments like Terradome and Cycloramas look more convincing... there are quite a few of them in the catalog of freebie items.

Thank you. :D It says Poser though and doesn't list Daz Studio. Does it work in Daz?

PS - I highly recommend the shaders from the freebies list (if you don't already have them)! These are some of my favourites that I use often:

    http://www.daz3d.com/nature-shaders

    http://www.daz3d.com/metal-abounds-iray-shaders

    http://www.daz3d.com/homestyle-iray-shaders

    http://www.daz3d.com/elegant-fabric-iray-shaders

Thanks for the tip. I don't have any of those, because the promo images don't really show them off very well. It is hard to tell what they would look like on a real garment or prop. Do you have some renders to show off? I'd love to see them in use.

Sure. Here are some of the fabrics from the Elegant Fabric Iray Shader set and the Everyday Fabrics Shaders Iray set:

How did you wind up with that style face? Looks super cool!

Also not really sure how anyone can dither over normally $3 bundles of hundreds of textures/materials that are now FREE, but I'll add my recommendation that I bought them and thought they were more than worth their price.

Thank you! :) It's a mix of Sickleyeild's Ball Joint Doll for G3F and Star 2.0 for G3F.

The Boll Joint Doll has a great toon shape:

    As does Star 2.0:

I mixed them and really like the result. I dialed in the Ball Joint Doll's head to 70% and Star's head to 37%. And Dialed in the Ball Joint Doll's body in at 37% and Star's body at 70%.

So her body is mostly Star's body with a little bit of Ball Joint Doll added in, but her head is mostly the Ball Joint Doll's head with a bit of Star's head added in. lol :) And then I made a few adjustments from there with a few of the G3F morphs.

Can you fit clothes and shoes for the original Star! to Star 2?

    Dana

Yes, they added a cone for the Original Star so that Star 2.0 can wear her clothes. And because Star 2.0 is also a Genesis 3 figure you can also wear all the Original Star clothes on your other Genesis 3 figures. :)

  • LlynaraLlynara Posts: 4,772

Yes, that was a pretty awesome selling point. And being able to mix Star with the other G3 figures too! That's a lot of fun!

Most of the time I love the thrill of the bargain hunt, it's kind of like a sport to me. But there are days when the problems get tedious. I do enjoy DAZ's sales for the most part. Yeah, some of them are time consuming. I'm spending way more time shopping than rendering, but the deals make it worth it. Shop now, play later when the sales die down (if they ever do!)

Didn't know about the wishlistify. Off to check that out. Thanks!

That's what I have been doing going through the frebie list by using my 'wistify'. It works great. :)

I've purchased lots of Traveller's botanical props and billboards and, so far, they have all worked well in DS despite saying Poser only.  You might have to adjust some surface settings if you are using them Iray, but they do fine with just the Uber Shader for the most part with just some minor tweaking.  When in doubt, just ask and someone might be able to do a render for you.  I know I have a ton of them now.  I collected as many as I could when they were at rock bottom prices in the massive surge over here.  I still collect what I can when they go on sale and I picked up this particular one as one of my freebies.  I haven't rendered this one, yet, but plan to very soon.

Yes, there's a built in autofit to convert Star's orgiinal clothes to Star 2.0. It seems to work pretty well. I think I have a render around here somewhere, though the lighting was terrible. The original Star stuff was super cheap when she came out, so I grabbed both.

That's great to know!  Thanks!  I have a free pair of boots by Sanbie at my site, as well as a pay outfit that the boots are made to match.  Now I can tell people they'll work on Star 2.0!  smiley

I had pretty good success with Star 2.0 in Star 1's clothing and hair without much issue, too. I posted a render somewhere in the Star 2.0 thread that probably isn't worth me digging up.

    Thanks for also confirming this!

Wait wait wait! lol Clothes are one thing - shoes are a different animal all together. While clothes often transfer between figures fairly well via clones and autofit - shoes that are transferred between figures tend to not do so well. Some fit ok, but some just down right refuse to even go onto the foot - while others will go on the foot but look like they had a fight with a garbage disposal and lost. If you send me the link to the boots I'll download them and test them on Star 2.0 to see if they will work. :)

Edit - I have 11 pairs of shoes made for the Original Star and I just tested them and all 11 pairs fit just fine on Genesis 3 females (since I have Star 2.0 that has the original Star clone). There is a little bit of distortion on a couple pairs, but for the most part they all do fit. So your boots should probably fit as well, from what I can see. I can still test them if you'd like though. :)

Ah yes, those! I like those boots! They work pretty well on G3F. There is a little bit of poke-through of the toes on the top and some slight distortion on the heal and bottom when transferring them to G3F or Star 2.0, but it's hardly noticeable.

Here they are on G3F and Star 2.0:

Really cute boots, Dana! :D Thank you for them!

Just a heads up, I don't think the orange banner applies to the best of 2015/2016 items today! Just the featured new releases and PAs as stated.

I wasn't going to buy anything today, but decided for Christmas I'd buy a few Saiyaness characters for having some of the most unique textures around and in the hope of one day getting that albino asian character~

Yup, decided to try out one of her characters; they look really great, not to find time to do some renders.

Just had a quick break from working on a project; deadline is 13th Jan. Oh woe is me. :)

Yeah, I've been buying plenty but no time to render any of it. Hopefully after Christmas, but if those sales are like they were last year, they'll be killer too.

That wishlistify is awesome. Picked my seven items quickly today. Wow, that's going to come in handy for future sales. Wish I'd known about it during the RDNA blowouts.

Some great deals today, and with the orange banner it's pretty hard to resist, some I've been waiting for for a while. Fantasy Wrap, Marrakesh Souks, etc. Dimension Theory is on sale today, one of my favorite PAs. I own most of his/her stuff and use it a lot. Happy to pick up a few more things.

The DSLR camera and Bonnie HD are super cheap today. And who can resist those Saiyaness characters?

Right.  It's 60% off with new release, then the Holiday discount applies (your standard one, mine is 30%)

Support told me what the Problem regarding the Day Four Bonus is:

I apologize for the trouble. You will need to remove Cian for Darius and it's qualifying item out of your cart and purchase separately. Offers cannot be combine into one purchase. We are updating the sales pages to reflect this.

This sort of worked for me, but I screwed up and did things incorrectly. It cost me the full price for Cian and cost Ozichick her item because I refused to buy it when I found I'd already bought Cian at full price.

It also seems to have raised the price for the pirate sword from $2+ to $4+ unless I'm misrembering the price. So to get 5 items I probably won't get much use out of it cost me at least $10.

I am a highly unhappy customer.

    -

    D. Jay Newman AKA Nerdbird

Daz is very good about refunding a mistake.  Just contact them.   They realize that the cart doesn't always work as planned.

  • That is the downside of shaders... they don't always seem to work out right on the things I want to use them on.

I may pick up some of the outfit textures if the deal continues. There are so many things to choose from... I've got a feeling DAZ knows in the long run wishlists increase and so do sales because of promotions like these.

I can't see how anyone could be upset because they didn't get the BEST deal for free - I've made a couple of decisions I regreted during the course of this sale - but overall... I still got more stuff for less money than I would have gotten if the sale hadn't have been so incredible. Beyond that, I agree - the mistakes the DAZ marketplace makes most often SAVE me money by my count. If anyone is getting the short end of the stick in the pricing mistakes that happen in the market, it is DAZ and the PAs, not the purchasers, in the grander scheme of things.

I wish Best Buy and Target and Fry's would make the same kind of pricing mistakes in my favor as often as DAZ does.

I agree that shaders are a much better deal if you're willing to experiment.  But, at FREE for some nice matching textures for some outfits I already own, I can't really complain.  Some matching textures that are just color changers aren't worth much.  But, you do find some of the matching texture sets that have well placed patterns that match the style of the clothing.  And, some of the more complicated ones completely change the item into new clothing with new geometry cutouts and aligned items like zippers and buttons.  So sometimes the matched textures really are worth it over reconstructing with shaders.  In the case of the freebies - I might as well get the shaders first, then all the nice looking matching textures for items that I already own.

Today I noticed a few random Daz items showing up for $1.79 in my cart. Got some of them for free anyway, but it's just odd that the discount seemed to come from nowhere. Two that come to mind are
    http://www.daz3d.com/sampan
    http://www.daz3d.com/layer-shader-for-daz-studio

That would have been about the right price for them if you were a PC+ member. Maybe for a while the store thought you were. :)

Hum... I think you're right. They were all PC items, but only some have the discount and it doesn't show up if I'm not logged in. However, I don't have PC+, can't afford it. It's not on my account either. Really weard. I'll see if I can find something anyway. It's a crapshoot though, I can only see the discount in the cart.

If you can't afford PC+...Once or twice a year PC+ membership will go on sale.  I got mine for $10.  I'm sure that price is only an introductory rate.  But, I've ...errr "saved" a ton of money by having it.  Considering how much more stuff I've bought because of the savings....well, you get the idea...LOL

Yes, there's a built in autofit to convert Star's orgiinal clothes to Star 2.0. It seems to work pretty well. I think I have a render around here somewhere, though the lighting was terrible. The original Star stuff was super cheap when she came out, so I grabbed both.

  • I agree that shaders are a much better deal if you're willing to experiment.

This is sort of how I am doing it. It is kind of a game of chicken - "I'll gamble that TOMORROW I'm going to get *8* new freebies with a new purchase, and in return, I'm going to go for inexpensive shaders rather than expensive textures today, with clothes and V4 items last in my list, tomorrow or the day after..."

But I agree - sometimes shaders don't work - especially if things like buttons or zippers or seams are not separate material zones but instead part of the texture map.

Also, things like Tanked where there are images on the fabric - unless you want to mess with a layer and do it yourself... which is easier said than done - they're a much better shortcut.

Could be the extra discounts I have- PC+ and Holiday Loyalty Rewards Day 6 bonus discount of 48% off because it's from one of today's featured vendors.

These sales are getting crazy! I just got SASE Kennedy for $2.80, picked up Opal, Priya and Zari for around $4, and Ceridwen for $7. The older stuff has been on my wishlist for a while and the newer stuff was just too amazing to pass up. Both Zari and Ceredwin are stunning. I think we have a whole rainbow of beauty today.

    Priya at $4 is so tempting... but I'm trying to save money ;_;

I've never been able to catch those sales. Maybe next year.
