Is that a frog prince or just a horny toad? either way, his expression and eyeline are both priceless.

I'm glad I wasn't drinking my soda when I saw this or it would have come spraying out my nose, lol. I love the humor in this image. The overall render is really well done!

Does Star look good with other G3F textures?  How well does Star work with those legacy uv products?

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

There are quite a few images by various people of Star wearing other textures in this thread - should be pretty obvious which ones aren't the default star textures. Mostly she looks good with them - you may need to do some work with the eyesockets depending on needs (to get the anime eye whites.)

I don't have any of the legacy UV things to test though.

Ok, you got me, and my money! I hadn't jumped on the Star bandwagon previously, because I didn't want to invest in a character that couldn't play well with the others, but Star 2.0 is a game changer! And she's adorable. Fell in love with her, and she fell into my cart, along with a lot of legacy stuff just for fun. Good work, LadyLittleFox! Your products are truly amazing, and it's a great pleasure to have you and the rest of RDNA with us. Now, to save what's left of my paycheck for Terradome3!

I adore the hair! AWESOME work! :D

Is there a tutorial on how to do that? I'd love to make some toon hair for Star! :D

Basically I just looked at how the Annie Hair was made and went oh that's the theory to get easier UVs and tried a few different styles based on that concept... which probably makes no sense to most people >.<

I guess it would depend a lot on which modeller you use. That was made in Blender but there weren't any special program specific things used for it.

I should also note that it's just three OBJ files placed and parented - I don't have the technical knowledge or patience to make all the JCMs and PBMs and FBMs and Other Acronym Ms that is required to make a conforming hair product, and making rigging in Daz has never really worked for me.

Sooo short answer.. I don't know anything about any tutorials, sorry. I just made it up as I went along and tried a few different ways based on looking at her default hair.

Thank you~ I'm learning at least. 3D modelling can seem really alien and confusing at first, but I love it so much.

Here's one more since I haven't really noticed OOT's dress from the bundle featured much.

Lady Littlefox has a great hair tutorial that was on the RDNA site.  I haven't seen it migrate into her shop here yet.  But, keep an eye out as it may yet get here.

I don't know if this helps at all, but this is how I do it... the hair is basically just strips of polygons bent to overlap each other, with the sticky out bits like tails/wispies being basic cylinders with no tops or bottoms, so that it makes UVs that are fairly easy to get straight (because then they'll work with basically any hair textures you own.) I think normal person hair is done mostly the same way except the strips are just flat strips with transparency painted on later, rather than making them blocky.

Somewhere, early in the thread, ItsTraveler offered up a pack of free HDRIs.  Try page 2 or 3 or that general neighborhood.

  • I'm LOOOOOVING Star! And she takes most G3 textures pretty well. :)

Here's DC Mira (by me and ChangelingChick) on Star- Just Star, and some star morphs and something like, 5% of Aiko.  So cute!!!  And for the record my 5 yr old son thinks her eyes are AWESOME (the way they kind of look at you no matter what the angle). :P

So playing around with Star 2.0 and Moonshine's Diner. Did some Iray conversions to the textures, made the Lights emissive and took the Family Car out for a spin, with Genesis Poses for Moonshine's Diner Int Ext. Due to Star's shorter torso, they needed a little rework, to get the bum on the seat and keep the feet in the car.

"You Bought what?" her frends are asking the driver. the friend in the back is saying "I think she's lost it."
    ---------------------------

The day before opening day, uses the poses and expressions for Josie 7.

Here is the night scene (WIP) using the new TerraDome 3.  The Star to the right is combined with Cool Friends by Mar3D. Seeing how well it worked I want to play with a few other morphs. like Baby Star and Grandma Star. And after looking at the Jogging buddy, Daddy Big Bucks Star.

I made the bone head move here, and forgot to save before rendering this. All those that guessed this was a Bad Thing giver yourselves a gold star. You my video driver crashed which cause Daz Studio to crash, and now I get to redo it again, hopefully this time I can get the grainy out of the render. I was thinking I'll get this render on the forums and then I'll make it a hoppin’ joint. needs a band stand in the corner I think, of course there has to be a "Rock Star".

Finally got to do a Star render. I think I mixed her with too many morphs because there were some weird things I had to smooth over in post. The only reason I rendered this in Iray is that I have no idea how to use 3Delight, still a newbie to DS and never learned how to render with it. I have toon shaders but haven't tried them yet. I'm much more comfortable in Photoshop than DS, and there was no need to make this realistic! Glad I have the original Star and purchased a lot of Poser stuff for her because it's much faster for me to render in Poser, but I don't have all the combos of morphs through Genesis, although I do have some good morphs for her there too...

I've been experimenting with Star and mixing her with other characters, here's 2 renders with my latest star character: Skylar:

And here is  the second render:

It's a mix of Star2, Mitsuko and Haven, and I also used some facemorphs.
