Actually it's an optical illusion that she's watching you.  It's because of her inverted eye whites.

Try searching for the morph EyeDisk-Inward,  it's under pose controls>Head>Eyes>Star2>StarEyes>EyeDisk.

You'll want to use a negative setting and see if that helps...

Also can try Eye-Disk-Side from profile and straighten her gaze a bit... it makes her look crosseyed from head on, but from the side it looks more straight forward.

Oh, you used the Jesus Statue trick, you, uh, sly little fox.

Here's Star at 25% with all Genesis 3 mats. With no expression, she looks a bit shocked.

I don't believe in optical illusions - her eyes are quite clearly following the viewer via magic!

Best result I've had is to position the camera first, then click on the anime eyes, go to the head bone, then use the Twist and Bend sliders to manually position the eyes.

I found a couple things for her eyes. Look for the "Left Upeye" and "Right Upeye" in her scene tab. Go to parameters, and there are 2 settings, Up-Down and Side-to-Side. They are not perfect, from certain angles you can see that the irises are in the back of the eye. It seems like it should be possible to simply rotate the eyes around 180°, but that doesn't go as planned because the axis is not where you think it is.

  • Yeah the rotational centers are in weird places due to them being disks that float, they're like three joints in to make it work ;P

I was actually thinking about adding an expansion to the eyes... give me another week and it'll probably be a freebie or something...  main intent woudl be to put one last joint right on the eye disk itself so that it has a pivot to twirl around easier for the grab and move crowd.    That sound like a happy solution?

I was messing around with Growing Up to try and get a Cookie look and wound up with something completely different xD

The face could use some more morphing but I'm lazy. I really hope there'll be some Star specific morph packs like all the old adjustments classic Star had.

All I can say is I think the eye following is cool ,and this was the fastest I've bought any character before so thankyou very much Lady Littlefox thank you ,and I will second a comment question made earlier ,is there any chance of a male to go with the lovely Star??

Well - I resisted Star when she came over from RDNA; I don't do toon all that much. But I could see why Lady Littlefox was so highly regarded by so many of you. This time, though - <sigh> - hook, line, and sinker. I probably won't use her at 100%, but she looks like she'll blend well with other characters.

I'm kind of wondering what'll happen if she's dialed in with Aiko 7... and now I'm regretting not buying that figure :(

  • *giggles* Welcome to the cute side! We are far more dangerous, we have the cookies! ;)

On the male,  that is largely dependant on how well Redspark is doing.  He usually does all my male companion figures.  He sounded interested, so fingers crossed and lots and lots of kitten eyes towards him ;)

    *peeeeers and pouts towards Redspark*

My first thought on seeing her was 25% Star and 75% Aiko 7. :-)

I'll post the result a bit later.

You are a pretty cool gal:) I'll add this also like the fastest I've bought a figure before. Being able to take any figure in my collection and add a touch of Star is a very awesome thing. That's the main reason why I grabbed her.

I tested this part of her very thoroughly before release (I didn't think it was an optical illusion either), and on extremely close examination, that's exactly what it was. They don't actually move, but because they are recessed it makes it look like they do. If you put an object in the scene (or off camera or use a side camera) and point her eyes at that, the illusion is broken and you can have her look elsewhere too (or manually position them, but I'm lazy). As I recall, I pointed G3F's default eyes even though they weren't visible and the anime eyes followed quite nicely.

The magic eyes thing is clearly working via magic. Seriously though, I was looking at her really closely while rotating and I think I sort of understand how it works (but not exactly; much too complicated for me.) I can work around it just fine so it's not really a problem.

I tried Star25 with Aiko75 but I decided I liked Star 75 Aiko 25 better. Aiko's base skin seems to work nicely but her makeups weren't so happy xD

Its a technique that you find in sculpting, using reassessed eyes to create the illusion of them following you around. Its especially common in religious art. Its interesting and creative to see it applied in 3d. She disguises this by adding lenses to cover the eyes. That's why most didn't notice how it worked. Pretty crafty. You can delete the lenses from the figure and see it better.

Nice tips, thanks. It's especially easy to see once you use a different character's skin and zoom in really close too. Really interesting concept - going to have to experiment with it a lot!

You're welcome. I'm no Hanabi, but if there are any specific mixes people want to see I can do basic renders of them.

I tried removing the anime eyes and unhiding the G3F eyes (then giving her Giselle 6's massive irises) super close up the eye textures? or something don't seem to fit quite perfectly, but at regular zooms it's perfectly fine. The more I experiment with the things you can do with this character the more I like her.

Changed the skin to Eva's and eyes to Brita's (sorry for the crappy quality I just screen grabbed the in client display.)

Tomorrow... Star! 2 will be mine, I tell you; mine, all mine.

Such a cute thing, isn't she, Precious...

Looks like someone beat me to it, but here is my test render with Growing Up for Genesis 3.  Just a little fun.  After all the heartache of trying to get things to fit the original Star, this G3 setup and autofit is a breeze! I love it!

Ummmm I have no idea but thanks~ I didn't save any of it since I was just testing, but from memory... 25% Aiko 7, 75% Star 2, then I believe I used the Pleased expression dial (from the original G3F Expressions pack.) I know I didn't use any specific mouth morphs because I was testing the eyes. Hope that helps!

Thank you! It's http://www.daz3d.com/gothic-lolita-for-genesis-3-female-s - sadly there are no Candy textures for it~ I bought your steam outfit textures though because they were so cute!
